* Joint Security Force has taken over the scene of an attack on the office of the Vigilantes at Amesi, Aguata Local Government Area of Anambra State.

This follows the attack by armed hoodlums on their facility where, four patrol vehicles and two motorcycles were burnt as a result of the gun duel by security operatives resisting the armed hoodlums from gaining entrance.

According to SP Tochukwu Ikenga, Police Public Relations Officer Anambra State Command, no life was lost during the incident.

“Calm has returned to the area as men of the Joint Security Force has intensified offensive operation in the area and the situation is being closely monitored”. Ikenga stated.

* The Catholic Bishop of Awka Diocese, His Lordship Most Rev. Paulinus Ezeokafor, has expressed deep worry over what he has described as the lack of seriousness and commitment by members of the Catholic Men’s Organisation (CMO) as regards the wellbeing and development of the Universal Church, exhorting them to be up and doing, humble, diligent and to well borrow a leaf from their female counterparts.

Bishop Ezeokafor, who made this known at St. Theresa’s Catholic Church, Awgbu, in Orumba North Local Government Area of Anambra State, while carrying out his pastoral function, called for attitudinal change, saying that he would continue chastising them.

The Prelate who announced that the last pastoral visit in the parish was in the year 2015, stated that there were unresolved issues that led to his long absence. Noting that he ought to have visited St. Theresa’s Catholic Church about three times since the last Pastoral Visit, he however added that he was happy that most of the issues had been sorted out.

* The Chairman of Idemili South Local Government Area, Hon. Mrs. Amaka Obi has flagged off construction of St. Gerald Avenue Road, Abaorji Village, Oba.

thanked Governor Chukwuma Soludo for his infrastructural revolution in the state, impacting the lives of vulnerable people in the state, from where the council area is borrowing a leave from, assuring that the project will be completed within two months.

In his address, the project Engineer; Obinna Akolonye, explained that the road spans 700 meters with double drainage, with completion time of two months and will be built to standard to last for years.

In their separate remarks, the President General of Oba Town Union, Chief Mike Okechukwu and an APGA stakeholder in the Council Area, Chief Ikenna Iyiegbu, extolled the Governor for his visible infrastructural developments, made manifest especially in road construction, healthcare provision and education, commending Mrs. Obi for also piloting the affairs of the Council area solidly with visible developments.

* A former Vice Chancellor of Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University, COOU, Prof Fidelis Okafor, has recalled the inputs of former Anambra State Governor, Mr Peter Obi, to the growth of the institution, saying Obi laid the foundation for what the school has become today.

Speaking n his home in Ukwulu, Dunukofia LGA, Anambra State, the former VC who is now enjoying his retirement, recalled how Obi had brought him to the institution when it was going through some turbulence arising from demands for increased salary and allowances by the staff members, which, he said, Obi solved, with Prof Elochukwu Amucheazi as Chairman of Council.

Okafor said that from then, Obi started transforming the institution by building campus roads to replace the muddy terrain; building of the Law Faculty; the Agric Faculty and what he described as the massive, Faculty of Management Sciences Obi started but which succeeding administrations could not complete; as well as some hostels and the accreditations of the Faculty of Law and the College of Health Sciences.

* Governor Chukwuma Soludo has received the Torch of Unity of the National Sports Festival scheduled to hold in Ogun State from May 16th, 2025, in Government House Awka.

Soludo represented by his Chief of Protocol, Chief Chinedu Nwoye said that Anambra contingents are domestically prepared to clinch major trophies in upcoming Gateway Games in Ogun state.

Addressing the national delegation alongside members of the state sports Commission as well as enthusiastic sports men and women who gathered to witness the ceremony, the Governor said that the origin of the National Sports Festival is a deliberate policy by the Federal Government to unite the various sections of Nigeria immediately after the Nigerian civil war in 1970, saying that sports has the potential of uniting and making the society better.

Soludo maintained that since the inception of his administration, state citizen’s lifestyle are better repositioned through the Healthy Living with Nonye Soludo’s activities, and urged Anambra athletes to adequately prepare themselves for the festival.

* The Catholic Bishop of Awka Diocese, Most Rev. Paulinus Ezeokafor has dedicated St Joseph Catholic Church, Umuawulu built by the members of the community.

The Prelate explained that it was a day of joy not only for the Church dedication but also for the fact that it was done during Easter period which he described as the greatest feast in Christendom.

Ezeokafor stated that anyone who wants to have a relationship with God must go to church. He reminded Christians that their bodies are the temple of the Holy Spirit which must be only for the worship of God.

and all that contributed in cash, kind and by presence to make the event a memorable day.

* No fewer than 100 students of the Federal College of Education (Technical) Umunze, Anambra State, have been awarded scholarships for the study of degrees and Nigerian Certificate in Education (NCE) programmes.

While 34 students won the Federal Government Education Bursary Awards worth N300, 000 per student in each session, 55 others were sponsored for a three-year NCE programme by the Chairman, Orumba South Local Government Area, Hon Shedrack Azubuike, through the Nwabugo Empowerment Foundation.

Also, seven students of the College benefitted from the scholarship scheme of the Chief Executive Officer of Seahorse Lubricants, Chief Chukwuebuka Onunkwo, who awarded scholarships totalling N10 million to 50 indigent students in Anambra State, with each student receiving N200, 000.

* The President of Tipper Drivers Association, Nnewi North, Nnewi South and Ekwusigo LGA of Anamabra State, Mr Arinze Ulasi has praised Governor Charles Soludo who he said had preformed wonderfully well especially in the area of road construction.

Ulasi made the commendation in an interview with journalists in Nnewi. He said that it is the wish of his members for Soludo to continue for the second tenure, adding that Soludo’s transformative agenda has made life easy for the tipper drivers.

The tipper drivers President also disclosed that he has helped his members in so many ways to ensure their well- being, saying that he constituted a taskforce which monitors their members that engage in over speeding thereby curtailing the rate of accidents on the highways.

 

* Wife of Anambra State Governor Mrs. Nonye Soludo has marked 2025 World Malaria Day, calling for heightened awareness and collective action to combat the prevalence of malaria across the state and beyond.

Speaking at the event, she harped on the urgency of addressing the disease, which continues to pose a significant public health challenge in Nigeria and the African region.

Citing the World Health Organization’s report, Mrs. Soludo highlighted the grim reality that malaria claims an estimated one life every minute, with the majority of deaths occurring in Africa.

* Umudora Okpala Ukwu Anam community in Ezi-Anam ward in Anambra West LGA of Anambra State was recently filled with excitement as Hon. Peter Aniekwe, Member representing Anambra East/West Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives commissioned standard new school building in the community.

The joy which was boldly written on their faces was demonstrated when the elderly men and women, youth and children came out en mass during the commissioning of the new school building constructed by Hon. Peter Udogalaya Aniekwe (MacPee Milinaliugwu of Omambala) within a year and some months of his election.

Speaking shortly after the commissioning, one of the eldest men, Ogbuevi Samson Ndubife, remarked that Hon. Aniekwe has done what no other representative in the past could do for them since he was born as a native of Umudora Anam, stating that people of Umudora Okpala Ukwu Anam would continue to throw their weighty support behind MacPee Milinaliugwu of Omambala as he is fondly called by Ndi Omambala in his future political endeavours.
