# Police Operatives attached to the Special Anti-Cultism Squad Enugwu Ukwu, acting on credible intelligence, stormed a black spot at 7th Mile, Ogidi, Idemili North LGA.
The team arrested six suspects, including a female, and recovered one fabricated Beretta pistol without a magazine and quantities of illicit drugs including Mkpuru Mmiri (crystal meth) during the raid.
Anambra Police Spokesperson, SP. Tochukwu Ikenga in a press release stated that the suspects are: Olisaemeka Izuchukwu. aged 21 years, Isioma Chisom, aged 22 years, Chinonso Izuchukwu, aged 20 years, Chinaza Isioma, aged 24 years, Onyekwelu Miracle, aged 19 years and Mrs. Chinenye Eloka Okeke aged 35 years.
“The suspects would be charged to court on the conclusion of the investigations”. Ikenga stated.
The Commissioner of Police, CP. Ikioye Orutugu, commended the operatives for their swift action and reaffirmed the Command’s resolve to sustain the tempo against cultism, drug trafficking, and other crimes in the State.
# Deputy Governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress, APC, in the November 8 governorship election in Anambra State, Senator Uche Ekwunife has warned Governor Chukwuma Soludo to get ready to hand over power, insisting that the government house is not his birthright.
Senator Ekwunife stated this while addressing party faithful in her country home in Nri, Anaocha LGA.
Ekwunife described the administration of the governor as an abysmal failure in all round development and security of lives qand property.
# The Anambra Broadcasting Service (ABS) says it will collaborate with the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) to promote prompt tax payment by government offices and agencies.
The Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of the ABS, Mr. Christopher Molokwu, disclosed this when officials of the FIRS Abuja office, led by a Director in the agency, Dr. Mustapha Akaje, paid him a courtesy visit in his office in Awka.
Mr. Molokwu, who noted that tax payment is a civic responsibility, assured that the station would strictly comply with the remittance of taxes deducted from staff salaries to the government’s coffers as and when due, pledging the station’s support in sensitizing other government agencies to do same.
Speaking, the leader of the delegation, Dr. Akaje, explained the importance of remitting taxes deducted from staff salaries each month by government agencies, urging the ABS boss to support the FIRS, particularly in ensuring timely remittance of taxes and in enlightening other offices to follow suit.
# In a decisive move to unravel the mysterious disappearance of children in the State, especially in Oba and its environs, Police Operatives attached to the Oba Division, acting on credible intelligence, apprehended one Ngozi Muotuanya, female, of Awkuzu-Oba aged 63 years.
Preliminary investigations revealed that sometime in 2024, the suspect allegedly stole a male child, aged about one year, in Minna, Niger State, and sold him to an unsuspecting member of the public in Anambra State. The said suspect later resold the child to another person.
Anambra Police Spokesperson, SP Tochukwu Ikenga in a press release stated that on 4th August 2025, the receiver, upon realising that the child had been stolen, returned him to the principal suspect. The suspect, in turn, allegedly abandoned the child at an unascertained church in Minna, where he was rescued by the Leader of the Igbo Community in Minna.
Meanwhile, the Command has relayed information about the custodian of the Child in Minna to the Niger State Police Command for possible recovery and reunification with his parents and other necessary action.
# Governor Chukwuma Soludo, has stressed the need to elect the APGA candidate, Chief Emmanuel Nwachukwu, in order to produce someone from Nnewi South extraction for the first time at this Saturday bye-election in the Anambra South Senatorial District.
Governor Soludo, who was speaking at Central School Field, Ukpor, during the Nnewi South Local Government Campaign Rally for APGA, recalled how insecurity ravaged Ukpor during the last gubernatorial campaign, expressing joy that the community is now safe to live, tasking them on voting and protecting their votes and expressed optimism that the will of the people will prevail at the election.
While assuring the people of Orsumenyi of entrenching peace in the community after over twenty years of crisis, the Governor promised that the ongoing rehabilitation of the Ichida-Azigbo-Osumenyi-Akwa Ihedi-Unubi road will be commissioned by December, and promised that the bad Ezinifite – Ukpor road will be measured and constructed by his government.

# The Commissioner of Police, Anambra State Command, CP. Ikioye Orutugu has received the South-East Zonal Director of the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC), Pharm. Shaba Mohammed in his office at the State Police Headquarters, Awka.
The visit, which was aimed at strengthening inter-agency collaboration, provided an opportunity for both agencies to deliberate on new strategies to combat the distribution of counterfeit, substandard, and unwholesome products, as well as to enhance public safety in the State.
CP. Orutugu reiterated the Command’s commitment to supporting NAFDAC in the enforcement of relevant laws to safeguard public health. He emphasized that effective policing requires strong partnerships with sister agencies, and assured that the Command will continue to provide necessary security support during NAFDAC operations in the State.
The South-East Zonal Director of NAFDAC, in his remarks, appreciated the Police Command for its cooperation and pledged continued collaboration in the interest of protecting lives and ensuring the quality of consumable products in Anambra and the South-East region at large.
The Director was accompanied by Pharm. Louis Madubuattah, NAFDAC State Coordinator Anambra State and other senior officials of the Agency.
# Anambra Governor’s wife, Dr. Nonye Soludo, has explained that the government needs the support and will of stakeholders to tackle pertinent issues like unemployment and building a stronger human capital population.
The Governor’s wife stated this at Idemili South Local Government Headquarters, Ojoto, while flagging off an empowerment programme for over seven hundred people from the area who had undergone training in different skills.
The empowerment programme, which was organized by the Chairman of the local government area, Mrs Amaka Obi, also had two hundred and fifty petty traders selected across the seven communities of the LGA who were given financial support to help their businesses.
Speaking at the programme, Mrs Soludo noted that while the government has a great responsibility to its citizens, its functions could be limited by so many factors, which is where stakeholders must come in and support certain crucial responsibilities.
She applauded the Idemili South Mayor for thinking towards the direction of human capital development, explaining that the number (700) will have multiplier effects on the income of many homes and the economic growth of Anambra State.
# The Commissioner of Police, Anambra State Command, CP. Ikioye Orutugu, has ordered the reassignment of Divisional Police Officers (DPOs) across strategic locations in the State ahead of the forthcoming Anambra South Senatorial District and Onitsha North one Constituency bye-elections.
This proactive measure is aimed at reinforcing police neutrality, enhancing operational efficiency, and ensuring maximum security before, during, and after the polls.
The Command reaffirms its unwavering commitment to safeguarding the integrity of the electoral processes and the safety of voters, election officials, and electoral materials respectively.
The Commissioner of Police stressed that all officers deployed for election duties must discharge their responsibilities with the highest level of professionalism, impartiality, and adherence to the rule of law.
The Police boss warned that any breach of the Police Code of Conduct or acts capable of undermining the peaceful conduct of the election will attract strict disciplinary measures.
# The President General, Youth Wing of the Anambra State Town Union Council (ASTUC), Comrade Ken Okoli has assured the APGA candidate for Anambra South Senatorial bye-election of his support to ensure he wins in the election scheduled to hold on Saturday, August 16th.
Comrade Okoli made the promise during a meeting with Chief Nwachukwu and ASTUC youths at Ukpor, Nnewi South Local Government Area.
He expressed belief that Chief Nwachukwu will do well if he wins the election, and advised him to be focused to enable him succeed.
Responding, Chief Nwachukwu promised to carry the youths of Anambra State Town Union Council along if he wins.
