# Peter Obi, former Anambra State Governor and Labour Party presidential candidate, paid a condolence visit to the mother of Ifesinachi Onyekere, a young entrepreneur and Managing Director of Fish Magnet Outlet, who was kidnapped and K!lled in Anambra State.
During the visit, Obi condemned the killing, describing it as a “shocking and senseless act of violence” that highlights the worsening insecurity in Nigeria.
Obi strongly condemned the K!lling, calling for thorough investigation and justice. He urged the government, communities, and citizens to work together to build a safer Nigeria.
He expressed deep sadness and prayed for the repose of Ifesinachi’s soul, while also wishing the bereaved family strength to bear the loss.
# The wife of Anambra State governor, Dr Mrs Nonye Soludo would be delivering a Keynote address at the grand finale of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Anambra Council’s Man of the Year award holding on 28 August, 2025.
Nonye, who is also the Founder of Healthy Living with Nonye Soludo, would be addressing the theme of this year’s celebration which is “The Media and Our State Anambra: Reportage in Election Year,” while the Guest Speaker would be the State Chairperson, Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR), Prof Angela Nwammuo.
The Chairman of the Committee, Comrade Francis Ekpone, who disclosed this in a press conference marking the beginning of the programme, announced that the event would be attended by over 2000 guests, including governor Chukwuma Soludo; the State Commissioner for Information, Dr. Law Mefor; the State Chairman, Traditional Rulers Council and Royal father of the day, Igwe Chidubem Iweka; top government functionaries, among other personalities.
# Ihiala LGA defied scepticism, overcame fear, and silenced security concerns on Saturday with a massive rally endorsing Governor Chukwuma Charles Soludo for a second term.
The gathering also pledged strong backing for Emma Nwachukwu, the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) candidate in the 16 August Anambra South Senatorial election rerun, reaffirming the community’s resolve to secure victory for both Nwachukwu and the party.
Held at St. Martin’s Primary School, Odoata, Ihiala, the rally was a vibrant display of unity and loyalty to APGA. Addressing the crowd, the Deputy Governor described the event as a clear reflection of improved safety in the area, recalling the gunmen’s attack during the 2021 election and contrasting it with the calm, peaceful and joyful atmosphere of the day.
Senatorial candidate Emma Nwachukwu received a rousing welcome, while the Member representing Ihiala Federal Constituency distributed palliatives, including a Siena bus for security operations across the 11 wards, bicycles for frontline APGA members, and 50 sewing and grinding machines for selected women in the LGA.
# Days to the Anambra South senatorial by-election, candidates of participating political parties have stepped up campaigns across the seven local governments of the senatorial districts.
Altogether, about four political parties, namely, YPP, ADC, APGA, and APC, have intensified campaigns across the senatorial zone.
By far, this Saturday’s election is shaping up as a very close contest with no apparent winner just yet. This is because the dynamics of Anambra South politics are different, and even with the demise of Senator Ifeanyi Ubah, those dynamics cannot be easily wished away.
# A former Minister of Labour and Productivity, Senator Chris Ngige, has warned the governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress in the November 8, 2025, Anambra governorship election, Prince Nicholas Ukachukwu, against using his name to campaign for votes.
The former governor of Anambra State frowned at his photograph, which was used alongside that of Ukachukwu and his running mate, Senator Uche Ekwunife, in their campaign posters, saying such action is aimed at misleading the public.
Ngige stated these in a press statement signed by his Special Assistant on Media Affairs, Hyggy Obialo, and made available to journalists.
Obialo said Ngige is on “sabbatical” from active partisan politics for now and should not be disturbed as he is taking his well-deserved rest after 25 years of active partisan politics and public service.
# The Deputy Vice Chancellor, St. Paul University and first female professor of Mass Communication in subsaharan Africa, Prof. Chinyere Stella Okunna has announced increment for endowment fund award for Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) in Anambra State.
The annual award, which has produced four winners since inception, aimed at encouraging journalists to behave ethically in their conducts, dressing, writing and association to the society.
Speaking in a press conference recently,
yhe Chairman, NUJ Press Week/Man of the Year Awards, Comrade Francis Ekpone, explained that the price money for the award had been increased from N50,000 to N150,000 effective from this year.
According to Ekpone, the award would be presented to the winner at the grand finale of the press week cum Man of the Year award holding on 28 August, 2025 at International Convention centre, Awka.
# The President General (PG), Omasi Town Union in Ayamelum LGA of Anambra State, Chief Alfred Okafor has pledged their support for Soludo’s re-election.
Chief Okafor made this known during a technical handover of rehabilitated Omasi health centre by Soludo’s Administration through the Ministry of Power and Water Resources, Awka.
Speaking during the handover, the PG, who described Governor Chukwuma Soludo as a man of “worthy credibility” applauded him for his developmental strides to Omasi community ranging from bringing back to life Omasi farm settlement which has remain disparaged for over 30 years after successive government neglects and resuscitation of their water projects.
# The Rector of the Federal Polytechnic, Oko, Anambra State, Dr. Chioma Irene Awuzie, has emphasized the importance of entrepreneurship and urged students to align their ideas with entrepreneurial principles
Dr. Awuzie made the call recently during an event where You Win, a programme under the Federal Ministry of Finance, distributed free books to over 500 students of the institution. She was represented by the Deputy Rector (Academic), Dr. Nkiruka Akabuike.
While expressing gratitude to the ministry for the initiative, Dr. Awuzie encouraged students to take advantage of the opportunity for self-sustenance. She advised them to study the book thoroughly and apply the knowledge gained to establish profitable ventures.
# Lucky winners in Anambra State, including a cleric, Pastor Innocent Ifeanyichukwu won various items during the Golden Dip Empowerment Raffle Draw conducted by SeaDavid Services Limited.
The cleric were among hundreds of others who spared N2,000 to buy tickets to participate in the raffle draw which was launched statewide months back.
The cleric, from Awka Etiti in Idemili South LGA of the state emerged winner of the grand prize in a transparent process witnessed by other contestants and the media.
