# The Anambra State Commissioner for Information, Dr Law Mefor, has marked this year’s New Yam Festival at his hometown, in line with Abatete’s culture and tradition.
The event started with the ceremonial cutting and eating of the new yam on Friday, at the palace of the traditional ruler of Abatete, Igwe Emeka Efobi, FNSE, who was represented by the Abatete Traditional Prime Minister (Onowu), Chief Pius Ezeigwe, who is also the Obi of Agbaja Abatete.
The commissioner also joined Obi Agbaja on Saturday, at the Agbaja Abatete Civic Centre, to perform the yam-eating ceremony for Agbaja, a quarter in Abatete, and personally performed the same ceremony for the people of his kindred, Uruokolo, based on his position as an Ichié and holding the title, Ichie Okaka Anueyiagu Abatete.
Speaking at the event, the commissioner, Ichié Ọkaka Anụeyiagụ Abatete, said that the New Yam Festival (Ịwa ji/Ịgụ Arọ) re-echoed the Farm-To-Feed Policy of the Solution Government, headed by Prof Chukwuma Charles Soludo, CFR.
Mefor, who thanked friends and well-wishers of Abatete for coming to witness the ceremony, explained that yam is recognised as the king of crops in Abatete and other places, which is why it is specially and symbolically celebrated among all the crops they produce.
# The SYDANI Initiative has organized a two-day capacity building on life-course vaccination for health workers drawn from three project Local Government Areas.
Health workers from Anambra West, Ogbaru and Nnewi North attended the training which was aimed at boosting their capacity to effectively implement its Saving Lives and Livelihoods SLL project.
The State Government on the occasion,
lauded the impact of the SLL Project, an intervention Pharm. Chisom Uchem, Executive Secretary of the Anambra State Primary Health Care Development Agency, described the intervention as timely and transformative.
The SLL project is funded by the Africa Centres for Disease Control and Prevention (Africa CDC) in partnership with the Mastercard Foundation, and implemented in Anambra through a sub-contract from AMREF.
# Anambra Governorship candidate for African Action Congress (AAC), Chioma Ifemeludike, was restricted by security operatives from entering the new Government House in Awka, upon her request to see Governor Chukwuma Soludo.
Ifemeludike was at Government House to see Governor Soludo and demand justice for the late Emmanuel who was allegedly Murdered recently in Anambra by Fulani herdsmen.
Security operatives stopped the Governorship candidate from entering the government house and she started lamenting over the menace of insecurity in the state.
Emmanuel was k!dnapped alongside his sister in Anambra, when their parents couldn’t pay ransom for their release, the kidnappers asked him to defile his sister which he refused and then they killed him.

Prince Nicolas Ukachukwu has accused Prof. Chukwuma Soludo of using the local vigilant, popularly known as ‘Udo Ga Achi to intimidate voters and the in the just concluded bye election.
Prince Ukachukwu in a press briefing held in his Campaign office at Awka alledged that state government used the non state actors to scare voters and held his party’s agent hostage. He described the senatorial result as orchestrated plan to manipulate the process.

“We are all aware of how the state vigilante group put our party senatorial candidate under house arrest, he said.
# Operatives of the Rapid Response Squad Awkuzu responded to a distress call at Ebenebe Community over a case of defilement of an 11-year-old girl and arrested one Uchenna Nweke ‘M’, aged 18 years.
Preliminary findings revealed that the suspect allegedly forced his way into the bathroom where the victim was bathing and had unlawful carnal knowledge of her.
Further revelations from the medical report confirmed the suspect’s culpability. Nevertheless, the Case will be charged in court on Wednesday, 20th August 2025.
Anambra Commissioner of Police, CP. Ikioye Orutugu has reiterated the Command’s unwavering commitment to protecting children and other vulnerable groups. He has assured the public that offenders of such heinous crimes will face the full weight of the Law.
# Nigeria National League (NNL) side,
Solution Football Club of Anambra State has officially endorsed Barr. Prince Chukwudi Oli as a Patron of the club, in recognition of his contributions to community development and alignment with the vision of Governor Chukwuma Soludo for sports advancement in the state.
The endorsement took place at the weekend during the flag-off of a new sports stadium project at Nri Boys Secondary School, Anaocha Local Government Area.
The club presented Oli with a Patron Award and branded Solution FC kits, symbolizing the beginning of a strategic partnership aimed at deepening grassroots sports development.
Presenting the award, management of Solution FC lead by the Chairman Anambra State Sports Development commission of Mr. Patrick Estate Onyedum described Barr. Oli as a community leader whose commitment to youth empowerment, philanthropy, and infrastructure resonates with the objectives of the club.
They noted that his efforts in sports and education reflect the values of discipline and excellence that Solution FC seeks to promote.

# The Anambra State Police Command has recorded significant breakthroughs in its fight against crimes relating to child trafficking and sexual offences.
Sequel to an intelligence-based investigation into a case of conspiracy, child stealing, and trafficking transferred from Okpoko Police Station to the State Criminal Investigation Department of the Gender Unit for discret investigation, the Operatives swung into action and successfully rescued the 6-year-old victim from an alleged foster parent in Ondo State.
Anambra Police Spokesperson, SP. Tochukwu Ikenga in a press release stated that the rescued child has since been reunited with his biological mother, while all the suspects have been charged in the Children, Sexual, and Gender-Based Violence Court for diligent prosecution.
# Women and youths of Obosi Community in Idemili North LGA has protested against the establishment of a Mega Gas Plant meant for retail/ dispensing of Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) or Cooking Gas within a residential area.
They decried that the continued construction of the Cooking gas station at School of health Road Ugamuma village, Obosi, poses a great danger to the lives and property of resident around that neighborhood.
Speaking during the protest, the Vice Chairman Obosi Land Management Council (OLMC) Isiowulu, Nze Chijioke Ejindu flanked by the Youth Chairman Tony Efobi, Secretary OLMC Isiowulu, Uzochukwu Animalu, Chidimmà Muoghalu in their separate speeches said that siting such a highly inflammable commodity near people’s kitchen and houses was not acceptable to Obosi people.
