# Anambra State Football Association has postponed the opening ceremony of 2025 Football League, earlier scheduled to hold Sunday, 24th August, 2025 at Awka City.
In a press release signed by Anambra State Football Association Secretary, Mr. Ralph Nweke, reads:
“We wish to officially inform all participating teams, stakeholders, and football lovers that the opening ceremony of the 2025 Anambra State Football League, earlier scheduled to hold on Sunday, 24th August, 2025 at Awka City Stadium, has been postponed to Sunday, 31st August, 2025.
“This adjustment has become necessary due to the ongoing renovation work at the Awka City Stadium. In view of the nature and importance of the opening ceremony, the field must be in the best possible condition to host the event successfully.
“We sincerely regret any inconvenience this change may cause and count on your understanding and cooperation as we work together to ensure a befitting commencement of this year’s league’. Nweke said.
# Umunze Progressive Union Women’s Wing held its 2025 Annual Home and Abroad Rally/August meeting in grand style.
The event aimed at celebrating progress, strengthening unity, and charting a way forward for the community’s development took place at Mbara Izo Village Square, and attracted women from both home and abroad, community leaders, notable speakers, and other distinguished individuals who gathered to mark the occasion.
Speaking at the event, the Chairman of Orumba South LGA, Hon. Shadrach Azbuike, alongside his Deputy, Mrs. Ngozi Obidike commended the women for their relentless efforts in fostering peace and oneness within the community, pledged their continued support, and emphasized zero tolerance for any violation of women’s rights in the council area.
The President-General of the community, Sir Engr. Ezekiel Iheazor, expressed satisfaction with the women’s achievements and described the day as a double celebration for him, as it also marked the first anniversary of the community’s new hall.
# The Chairman of Idemili South LGA, Dr. Amaka Obi has inspected the marking of the newly constructed seven hundred (700) meters road in Oba Estate.
Speaking during the inspection, the Mayor said “This road stands as the first ever tarred road in Oba Estate, bringing a new sense of development, accessibility, and pride to the community.
“The road project represents not just an infrastructural achievement but a bold step towards opening up the estate for growth, investment, and improved quality of life for residents.
“This milestone is in line with my administration’s commitment to making Idemili South a livable and prosperous local government area.
“We are dedicated to providing infrastructure that directly touches lives, fosters development, and sets the foundation for future progress. By prioritizing critical projects like this, we are demonstrating that good governance begins with practical, impactful interventions that make communities thrive”. Obi declared.
# A prominent figure in Ogbunike community, Comrade Chuma-Odili, also known as “Eze Ogbono,” has died after slumping at a public function at the weekend.
The incident occurred at a gathering hosted by a rival aspirant for the prestigious Igwe stool of Ogbunike town.
According to eyewitnesses, Chuma-Odili was in high spirits, exchanging pleasantries and preparing to spray money on dancing women when he suddenly slumped backwards.
Despite efforts to revive him at a nearby hospital, he was pronounced dead.
# The Mayor of Njikoka LGA, Barr. Chinedu Ononiba, along with Dr. Jude Akpua and his team, attended the New Yam Festival (Iwa Ji) of HRH Igwe Sir L.N. Ezeh, in Abba.
This annual celebration marks the beginning and end of the farming season in Igboland, showcasing the rich cultural heritage of the Igbo people.
During the ceremony, held at the Igwe’s palace in Abba, the monarch performed traditional rituals, including the cutting and eating of roasted yam. As a symbol of respect and solidarity, Barr. Ononiba and his team paid homage to the traditional ruler, reinforcing the administration’s commitment to preserving and promoting the cultural identity of Njikoka.
As the oldest monarch on the throne in Njikoka and the second oldest in Anambra State, Igwe L.N. Ezeh’s leadership and dedication to cultural preservation have earned him great respect.
# The Commissioner of Police, Anambra State Command, CP. Ikioye Orutugu has directed Police operatives to immediately investigate a disturbing report circulating in the media regarding a young man identified as Chogbo (popularly known as Agudo) from Igboukwu, who was allegedly kept in chains for 5 years by his father with claims that he had travelled abroad.
Reacting, CP Orutugu commends the youths of the community for the proactive role they played in uncovering the incident, describing their action as a clear example of community partnership in policing.
Preliminary inquiries are ongoing to establish the facts, safeguard the victim’s well-being, and the Command assures that where culpability is established, those responsible will be held accountable in accordance with the law.
The victim has been rescued and is receiving necessary care.
# The Chieftain of All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA), Chief. Ikenna Iyiegbu, and Idemili South Mayor, Dr. Mrs Amaka Obi, joined Anambra First Lady, Dr. Mrs Nonye Soludo as she receives Humanitarian Award for Health-care and Child Support in Abuja.
Chief Iyiegbu described Dr. Mrs Nonye Soludo as a virtuous woman who is dedicated to community development, particularly in healthcare and child support, stating that through various initiatives, Mama Anambra has ensured that more children, regardless of their backgrounds have access to quality education, setting the foundation for a better future.
On her part, Dr. Mrs Amaka Obi said that the award was well-deserved, saying that Dr. Mrs Soludo had been uplifting women through Healthy Living initiative and protecting children in the State.
They prayed for more strength, longevity and good health upon Dr. Mrs Nonye Soludo to continue her selfless service to the people and humanity in general.
# Anambra State Association of Town Unions, ASATU Youth Wing, has condemned the recent incident of assault on a female corps member serving in the state by members Operation Udo Ga-achi, describing it as inhumane.
Speaking at a solidarity rally in support of Governor Chukwuma Soludo, the ASATU Youths, through its President General, Mr. Ken Okoli, requested that members of the security outfit who go against their rules of engagement should be fished out and prosecuted, and called on the public keep vigilance on the activities of members of the Operations Udo Ga-achi, which he noted is made up of different security agencies, including Agunechemba.
He alleged that to make Anambra unsafe and then use insecurity for campaign, some politicians are protesting against and calling for the disbandment of Agunechemba because of few errant officers, and urged those involved to concentrate on telling Ndi Anambra what they can offer.
Receiving the youths at the new Government House, Awka, the Chief of Staff to the Governor, Mr. Ernest Ezeajughi, who condemned human rights violations by the security operatives, expressed concern that some politicians would want to politick with the unfortunate incident.
# Mayor of Njikoka LGA, Barr. Chinedu Ononiba, alongside his team, paid a courtesy visit to the palace of HRH Igwe Max Ike Oliobi, Owelle Nimo, as he celebrated the annual New Yam Festival (Iwa Ji) in grand tradition.
Speaking, Ononiba praised the peaceful and organized celebration and acknowledged the traditional ruler’s contributions to community development.
The Mayor reaffirmed his administration’s continued support for cultural events across Njikoka LGA. He emphasized the importance of unity, heritage, and communal pride, encouraging the younger generation to uphold and respect these rich traditions that define the identity of the people.
