# In a show of unity and support, Governor Chukwuma Soludo, and his Deputy, Dr. Onyekachukwu Ibezim, have been unanimously adopted as the consensus candidates for the Anambra South Senatorial District.
The announcement was made during a gathering at the Ekwulobia Township Stadium, where representatives from seven local government areas convened to rally in support for their re-election come November 8, 2025
The gathering also saw the presentation of Chief Emmanuel Nwachukwu as the standard bearer for the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) in the upcoming bye-election scheduled for August 16, 2025.
# The Deputy Majority Leader of Anambra State House Of Assembly, Dr. Jude Akpua alongside Mayor Njikoka LGA, Barr. Chinedu Ononiba, paid a condolence visit to the Nwabuzu family of Nkwelle Village Umunnachi over the untimely death of Late Mrs. Chididmma Jane-francis Nwabuzu who died at the unriped age of 35, after a brief illness.
Commiserating with the family, Hon. Akpua appealed to the family of Nwabudu to come to term with the sad reality and hold on to God, the true consoler of the grieved.
“On behalf of my family and my office, I want to extend my deepest condolences to you during this incredibly difficult time. The loss of Late Mrs Jane-Francis Chidimma Nwabudu, at just 35 years of age, is not only heartbreaking, it’s a tragedy that touches all”.
# Anambra State Government has described the unfortunate murder of Mr.
Martin Ifesinachi Onyekesi, a prominent fish dealer in the state popularly known as Fish Magnet, who was kidnapped and killed recently.
Anambra State Commissioner for Information, Dr. Law Mefor, while speaking during a condolence visit to the Woman Leader of the Anambra State All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), Mrs. Esther Onyekesi, the mother of Fish Magnet, described the death as dastardly and heart-wrenching, sympathised with the deceased’s family, assuring that the state government is with them in search of justice while sustaining and strengthening security in Anambra State.
Dr. Mefor maintained that such a death is an affront to the Solution Government’s new security architecture and expressed happiness that the police are on the heels of the perpetrators and have issued a statement on the matter after recovering the vehicle in which they drove him away, adding that “nobody can commit such a dastardly act in Anambra State and get away with it.”
# The Anambra State Police Command, under the leadership of the Commissioner of Police, CP. Ikioye Orutugu has received widespread commendation from stakeholders, traditional institutions, and community members for the peaceful and hitch-free celebration of the 2025 Imoka Festival in Awka.
The festival, which is one of the major cultural events in the State, recorded zero incidents of violence, cult-related activities, or public disturbances.
This was basically due to the proactive deployment of joint security personnel, robust intelligence gathering and community partnership strategy adopted by the Command.
In response to the commendation, the CP represented by the Deputy Commissioner of Police in Charge of Operations, DCP Ezekiel Ibrahim, appreciated the good people of Awka and the festival organisers for their cooperation, discipline, and respect for law and order throughout the celebration.
The Police boss further pledged the Command’s sustained commitment to securing all cultural and social events across the State. He further emphasized the importance of community support and timely information sharing in ensuring public safety.
The CP reaffirmed that the Anambra State Police Command will continue to adopt people-oriented policing strategies aimed at preserving cultural heritage, fostering peaceful coexistence, and ensuring that law-abiding citizens freely enjoy their constitutional rights.
# The Mayor of Njikoka LGA Barr. Chinedu Ononiba attended the induction ceremony of Jude Arubaleze into the revered Traditional Ozo Society at Etiti Nimo Community.
Addressing the celebrant, Hon. Ononiba lauded the celebrant for upholding cultural values and embracing the deep-rooted customs of the land.
The local government boss encouraged the younger generation to respect and learn from such traditions, noting that cultural practices are not only symbols of identity but also pillars of unity and continuity.
# Anambra born Corps Member, Brown-Ofoeme Ebubechukwu Prosper (BY/24B/2451), has taken a bold step to restore dignity to public education in Bayelsa State by renovating four dilapidated classroom blocks at Community Primary School, Swali, in Yenagoa Local Government Area.
Corper Brown-Ofoeme, who hails from Uruagu Nnewi, in Nnewi North Local Government Area of Anambra State, executed the project as part of his Personal Community Development Service (CDS), was driven by a heartbreaking encounter when he visited the school.

Initially assigned to the Nigeria Police Force, Bayelsa State Command, Corper Brown Ebubechukwu had planned an anti-cultism campaign for his CDS project, however, the condition of the school changed the course of his service year. He immediately swung into action, consulting the school leadership and mobilizing support from kind-hearted individuals to bring the project to life.

Speaking during the inspection of the CCTV surveillance cameras at the New Auto Spare parts Market Nkpor, Idemili North LGA, Archbishop Nzekwesi said that incidents like burglary, fire incidents and robbery within the markets would be very difficult because the CCTV surveillance cameras will be running for 24 hours and will be monitored 24 hours from a central computer within the markets and at the ASMATA Secretariat, Onitsha.
Nzekwesi maintained that Governor Chukwuma Soludo has a desire for innovation because he wants development and that when the initiative was presented he welcomed it with open hands.
# Governor Chukwuma Soludo has expressed his gratitude to the people of south senatorial zone and the entire people of Anambra for their proactive involvement in the campaign, remarking that the support comes even before the official launch of his campaign council.
The Governor while speaking during the endorsement at the Ekwulobia Township Stadium, also expressed confidence in the APGA Senatorial candidate, declaring that: “A vote for Chief Nwachukwu will ensure the emergence of a Senator who will collaborate closely with the Governor and join the APGA Caucus to implement our policy of working hand-in-hand with the government at the center,” Soludo assured.
Chief Nwachukwu, who received the party flag from APGA’s National Chairman, Barr. Sly Ezeokenwa, and the State Chairman, Barr. Ifeatu Obiokoye, committed to a campaign anchored on the achievements of the Governor. He emphasized his intention to build upon the solid foundation laid by Governor Soludo.
# The Nigeria Beach Soccer League (NBSL) has confirmed Anambra State as the new host for the rescheduled second round of the 2025 season, which was initially slated for Kaduna State.
The Round, initially slated for Kaduna State, will now take place in Nnewi during the third week of August, which observers noted, coincides with Nnewi town Yam Festival.
NBSL Coordinator, Mahmud Hadejia, who confirmed the change during a virtual meeting with club representatives over the weekend, informed that the adjustment was as a result of logistical challenges which hindered Kaduna’s ability to stage the event.
