* The Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Anambra State, Sir. Basil Ejidike has expressed concern over President Bola Tinubu’s appointment style, which he claim is discouraging party members in the state.

Sir. Ejidike made the appeal on the occasion of APC National Chairman, Dr. Abdullahi Ganduje’s one day working visit to Anambra.

According to Ejidike, the federal government’s appointments without consulting the party are detrimental to the APC’s growth and success in Anambra. He noted that many of those appointed to juicy positions are non-party members, mostly from the rival All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA). This trend, he said, has not inspired or motivated party members, and is threatening the party’s chances of winning the November 8, 2025 governorship election.

Ganduje, while speaking commended the party in Anambra State, saying they are ready to take over from the ruling APGA. He assured that his leadership will provide a level playing ground for all aspirants and address the concerns of the Anambra APC.

* Anambra State Commissioner for Information, Dr. Law Mefor has explained that governor Chukwuma Soludo’s recently inaugurated security outfit, Operation Udo Ga-Chi was only targeted at getting rid of criminals from the forests for safety and prosperous homeland.

Mefor, who disclosed this while welcoming the Chairman of Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Anambra State Council, Dr Odogwu Emeka Odogwu and other newly elected officers in his office, dismissed the allegations that the security outfit was killing opposition political party members and innocent citizens.

According to him, Udo Ga-Chi comprising Agunachemba have within one month recorded several success stories by taming violence crimes, including demolition of criminal hideouts, arrest of kidnappers, among others.

He, therefore, urged those with legitimate businesses to shun hiding in the bushes for any reason while reiterating the call on criminals to leave Anambra forests and repent or face the wrath of law because according to him, the State would no longer permit any kind of criminalities.

Earlier speaking, the Chairman, NUJ, Anambra State Council, Comrade Dr Odogwu Emeka Odogwu commended the State government for not interfering in the NUJ election, even as he assured that the Council would continue to uphold the ethics of the profession in their reportage of government and other developmental issues.

* A notorious fraudster, identified as Obiajulu Ibeagha, has been arrested with 84 sim cards of different networks in Anambra State.

The suspect, who hails from Obosi community in Idemili North Local Government Area of the State, was arrested by local vigilante operatives, Special Squad Umuoji, also in Idemili North Local Government Area.

During interrogation by the Commander of the Special Squad, the suspect confessed to have defrauded many people using threats of ∆ss∆ssination.

According to him, his own pattern of fraud is to call people, lie to them that someone engaged him and his gang members to ∆ss∆ssinate him or her, but that they have investigated and found out that he/she is innocent and wouldn’t want to harm him/her. He said after telling the person this, he would tell him/her to send them money do that they would spare him, or for them to fuel their vehicles back to where they came from.

* Seven young football talents in Anambra State have been selected for opportunities in European clubs following their success during a three-day trial held in Awka in December, 2024.

The trials which took place at Awka Township Stadium, saw a team of European football professionals watch players of various football clubs in the state, including De Gamechanger FC, DOSAD Sports, and Solution FC, among others, showcase their talents.

The visiting team includes Jorge Forster, a Spanish FIFA Agent; Rene Merilo, the President of FC Metropol, Estonia; and a scouting manager, who were in Anambra at the invitation of their partners, including De Gamechanger FC, Awka.

According to the President of De Game Changer Football Club, a grassroots football academy, who organized the trial, Comrade Obi Emeka Chukwudi, the selected young talents are presently at different stages of documentation and other preparations, ahead of their travel to Europe.

* Popular Anambra native doctor, Akwa Okuko Tiwara Aki, has been taken into custody as government investigate the authenticity of his alleged money ritual practices for clients.

In a video circulating online, the native doctor vehemently denied performing “Okeite” rituals, citing compliance with a newly implemented law in Anambra State that bans such activities.

During the interrogation, by Anambra State Deputy Governor, Dr. Onyekachukwu Ibezim, Akwa Tiwara Okuku was told to accompany them to his shrine to demonstrate the effectiveness of the rituals he claims to perform.

* Obosi United have sealed their place in the quarter finals of the 2025 NEROS/ANSFA President Federation Cup following a 4-3 penalty kicks win over Rangels FA on Saturday at The Awka City Stadium.

The thrilling contest ended 2-2 draw at regulation time with Obosi United going ahead to win 4-3 from the spot kicks that followed to break the deadlock.

Obosi United also known as ‘The Blues’ will now meet NNL side, Edel FC in the quarter finals.

* The Special Adviser to Governor Chukwuma Soludo on Youth Empowerment Program, Dr. Nelson Omenugha has given scholarships to 60 Indigent pupils, donated one million naira Education endowment fund as prize for overall Best Students to Nwafor Orizu College of Education, Nsugbe, NOCEN and Maria Regina Model Comprehensive Secondary School (MRMCSS), Nnewi to mark her mum’s 60th birthday.

Also, in commemoration of the 60th birthday of his mother, Prof Kate Azuka Omenugha, Acting Vice Chancellor Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University, COOU, Dr. Nelson Omenugha built a Rendezvous center for St. Paul’s Catholic Church, Nnobi.

Speaking at St Paul’s Catholic Church Nnobi, Idemili South LGA, Anambra State during the Blessing cum Commissioning of the Parish Rendezvous by His Eminence, Peter Ebere Cardinal Okpaleke, Dr Nelson Omenugha said that he and his siblings could not forget all the selfless sacrifices their mother made with the help of their father, Chief Dr. Michael Omenugha to give them the best education and raise them in the things of God which contributed to making them relevant in their generation.

* Former footballer Ejike Eze, popularly known as “De King,” has motivated players of Solution Football Club, Anambra State, with cash rewards following their recent victories in the Nigeria National League (NNL).

Eze’s first cash gift came after Solution FC secured a 2-0 victory over Kun Khalifat FC at Awka Township Stadium. He repeated the gesture when the team triumphed 4-1 against Madiba FC at Awka City Stadium, further boosting the morale of the players.

Speaking to Sports writers, Ejike Eze commended both the players and club officials, urging them to maintain their winning form. He also made a passionate appeal to Governor Chukwuma Soludo to prioritize the welfare of the team.

According to him, the players are putting in their best efforts despite financial struggles and deserve better support to enhance their chances of securing promotion to the top tier of Nigerian football.

* Chameleon International Football Sports Academy based in Nsugbe near Onitsha in Anambra State will commence an Open Screening for players Under 19, and 17 Years respectively.

The screening will Kick-start on the 23rd of February 2025 and will end February 28, and will be held at All Hallows Seminary field Onitsha.

The New Academy is Affiliated with the Anambra State Football Association and also have ties with some Top Football Agents in the UK.

The Academy has a condusive camping apartment, a good training pitch and equipments, including a CAF licensed coach, a team bus and everything required for a football Academy.

The selected players will be exposed to numerous scouting programs and Major competitions. They will also be given the platform to thrive both in football and in general studies

* In a significant move to enhance human capital development and strategically empower youths in ICT, Prof. Oby Lilian Orogbu, the member representing Awka North and South Federal Constituency, has empowered 100 youths in ICT.

This initiative, facilitated through the National Productivity Centre (NPC), aims to equip youths with the necessary skills to compete favorably on the global stage.

The groundbreaking empowerment event, which took place at Ezi Ndi Iche Hall, Awka, saw the distribution of 100 brand new laptops and cash gifts to beneficiaries across her constituency.

Additionally, it provided ICT training and empowerment to equip youths with the necessary skills to thrive in the digital space and establish a means of livelihood. Participants expressed their appreciation for the gesture, acknowledging the potential impact of the initiative on their lives.
