* Anambra State Deputy Governor, Dr. Onyekachukwu Ibezim, has advised landlords and landladies in the state to closely monitor their tenants to ensure they are engaged only in legal businesses.
Deputy Governor Ibezim gave the advice at Government House, Awka, while speaking on the commitment of the Professor Chukwuma Soludo led administration’s zero tolerance for crime and criminality in the state.
Dr. Ibezim, who emphasized on the recent mandate given to landlords and landladies by the state government to know what their tenants do for a living, made it clear that landlords and landladies harbor kidnappers in their house will face severe consequences and risk losing their property to the government.
* The President of Uruagu-Nnewi Development Union, Chief Sunday Okoli and the Obi of Uruagu-Nnewi community in Nnewi North local government area of Anambra State, His Majesty Afamefuna Charles Obi, have swept Soludo’s directive to the gutters, by reason of their suspension and subsequent dessolution of the leadership of the community’s youth forum, led by Ejike Ifejiofor, and subsequent appointment of caretaker executive to pilot the affairs of youths in the community.
Governor Chukwuma Soludo had through a letter dated August 9, 2024, signed by the Permanent Secretary, Anambra State Ministry of Youth Development, Dr. Martin Agbili, warned the community leaders to stay any action regarding suspension of the Uruagu-Nnewi youth forum.
The community had, through its PG, Chief Okoli, written to the Ministry of Youths Development, notifying the ministry of “immediate suspension” of the youth group over alleged insecurity in the area.
* The people of Urum in Awka North Local Government area of Anambra State have expressed worry over the activities of some land grabbers who parade themselves within the area.
According to them, there is the need for the government to profile them in other to ensure that they don’t continue to mislead unsuspecting public by selling illegal lands to them.
The President General of Urum Development Union, Hon. Felix Godwin and other leaders of the community made the observation while speaking to Journalists on the increasing rate of land racketeering in the name of Estate developers in the area.
Hon. Godwin said the Community being mindful of the act,have set up a land committee to ensure that all lands bought in Urum are sold by the genuine owners.
* Concerned stakeholders in Awka the Anambra state capital have condemned what they called unwarranted attacks at notable citizens of the area by those opposed to the peace, progress and development of the area.
The Stakeholders in a statement jointly signed by the Coordinator and Secretary, Amobi Okeke and Elder Samuel Onwuka and made available to newsmen, stated that it is time to put a stop to this act of injustice and character assassination.
They frowned seriously at what they noted as mounted attacks and campaign of calumny against the person of Ozo Jeff Ezechukwu Nweke who in clear terms is motivated by jealousy, trepidation and savagery.
* Anambra State Government has inaugurated a caretaker committee for the Fruits and Vegetables Dealers Market, Onitsha, located behind Power Mike, Ogbaru Local Government Area.
Speaking during the event in his office at Awka, the Special Adviser (SPAD) to the governor on Trade and Markets, (SPAD), Chief Evarist Uba who performed the inauguration charged the newly appointed committee to focus on maintaining order, fostering a business-friendly atmosphere, and implementing government policies.
Uba emphasized that leadership positions in the market should be held only by those actively engaged in businesses there to prevent conflicts and ensure fair representation.
* Governor Chukwuma Soludo, has expressed hearty felicitations to Sir Emeka Offor, a foremost Nigerian entrepreneur and philanthropist, on the occasion of his birthday today.
In his goodwill message, signed by the Press Secretary to the Governor Mr. Christian Aburime, Soludo commended Sir Offor’s journey from his humble beginnings in Oraifite to becoming one of Nigeria’s most successful entrepreneurs as epitomising the resilient and industrious spirit of the Anambra people.
Through his company, Chrome Group, he has created thousands of jobs and contributed significantly to Nigeria’s oil and gas sector development.
Also, the Governor recalled that beyond his business acumen, Sir Emeka’s philanthropic works through the Sir Emeka Offor Foundation have touched and continued to transform countless lives, particularly in education, healthcare, and youth empowerment.
* A Legal Practitioner and community leader in Owerre-Ezukala, Orumba South Local Government Area, Barr. Nonso Madu has commended Governor Chukwuma Soludo for the giant strides his administration has recorded in Anambra State, stressing that the massive infrastructural development currently going on in the state has turned Anambra state into a big construction site.
Speaking to newsmen in Awka, Barr. Madu noted that the recent positive initiatives taken by the Soludo administration in the area of security by setting up the operation Udo Ga Achi Security Outfit to rid the state of the menace of insecurity, kidnapping and wanton loss of lives and property is highly commendable and urged Ndi Anambra to support the soludo administration in its efforts to sanitize the State.
Barr. Madu who was a 2017 Gubernatorial Aspirant in Anambra State under the All Progressives Congress, lauded the recent successful raids on criminal hideouts and camps in Umunze, Ogbunka and Owerre-Ezukala and called for its sustenance, while urging affluent individuals to set up a security trust fund and make meaningful donations to help government in tackling insecurity in the State, assuring Governor Soludo of his continued support to his administration.
Madu pleaded that the raids on criminal hideouts and camps in Orumba South be intensified, noting that 70 percent of the criminal activities in Anambra State can be traced to criminal camps in the named three border communities in Orumba South.
* A frontline All Progressive Congress (APC) governorship aspirant, Sir. Paul Chukwuma has extended heartfelt congratulations to His Grace, Archbishop Valerian Maduka Okeke, on the occasion of his 23rd episcopal anniversary.
In a message of appreciation and celebration, Sir Chukwuma praised Archbishop Okeke for his steadfast dedication to the spiritual, educational, and social well-being of the people of the Onitsha Archdiocese and beyond.

* The arrest of Chief Chidozie Nwangwu, known as Akwa Okuko Tiwara Aki, by the Anambra State Government has sparked widespread concern. His arrest, which many view as politically motivated, raises troubling questions about the misuse of state power and the suppression of fundamental rights—specifically, the right to freedom of worship and expression.
Barrister Ifeanyi Ejiofor, a respected lawyer, has publicly condemned the arrest, emphasizing that it represents a serious violation of Nwangwu’s constitutional rights. Ejiofor, who had previously warned about the potential for misuse of the Agunechemba Security Outfit for political purposes, believes that this arrest confirms his fears.
The circumstances surrounding Nwangwu’s detention are troubling. He was reportedly invited by the Deputy Governor of Anambra for a meeting, only to find himself trapped and unjustly detained. The arrest is connected to a video where Nwangwu allegedly spoke about preparing a substance called “Okeite.” However, it’s important to note that the video was never shared on his official platforms nor promoted by him.
* CP Ikioye Orutugu on Monday 10th February 2025 takes over as the 35th Commissioner of Police Anambra State from Nnaghe Obono Itam, who was recently redeployed to Force Headquaters as the Commissioner of Police in charge of Counter Terrorism Unit, Abuja.
CP Ikioye Orutugu was born on 3rd August 1966 and is from Brass Local Government Area of Bayelsa State.
He joined the Nigeria Police Force on 18th May 1992 as a cadet Assistant Superintendent at the Nigeria Police Academy Annex Kaduna.
CP Orutugu holds a BSc in Political Science from the University of Port Harcourt, a Master’s degree in Public Administration from the University of Lagos and a PhD in Sociology of Education from the University of Port Harcourt.
