* Anambra State Government has declared its intention to partner with GasInvest Limited, a consultant company to Shell Nigerian Gas.
The Chief Executive Officer of GasInvest Limited, Mr Michael Faniran, during his courtesy visit to the MD/CEO, Anambra State Solid Minerals Development Company Limited to discuss the Gas and Power Infrastructure masterplan for Anambra State, noted that in developing the Anambra State Energy and Gas Masterplan, some data and inputs need to be captured as the project is data intensive.
He said that a lot of inputs needed to achieve results are categorised into two, which is to actually get the quantum of energy demand in terms of today’s demand and the projected demand for the next 20 to 30 years, and secondly, to know where these demands are located.
On the synergy between the company and Anambra State Solid Mineral, Mr Faniran stated that the mining sector requires energy, which is part of their visit to know where these mining sites are located in the state, the benefits of these mineral resources and the location of the processing plants, that would enable them to develop the kind of power requirement and in turn serve as a demand center in terms of developing the energy infrastructure.
Responding, the MD/CEO of Anambra State Solid Minerals Development Company Limited (ASSMDCL), Prof.Charles O.Ofoegbu, hinted that there are many mining sites in Anambra, but the new trend is to go downstream, give beneficiations that would add value to our mining sector which requires power to sustain them.
* The traditional ruler of Urum Community in Awka North Local Government Area of Anambra State, Igwe Nweke said land developer and real estate mogul, High Chief Okechukwu Kingsley Chukwueme (Nwaguatahihia ) Properties,
bought the Ochiokwa land from the rightful owners, contrary to speculations.
Igwe Nweke will speaking to newsmen in his Palace on Tuesday said Nwaguatahihia an American based estate developer bought the land because he is keying into the think home philosophy agenda of Governor Chukwuma Soludo.

Ochiokwa land deal in Urum, asserted that his acquisition followed all legal and traditional protocols. He categorically denied speculations that the purchase was irregular or unauthorized.
Nwaguatahihia explained that five indigenes of the community, who are the rightful owners of the land, unanimously sold it to him. He further noted that the traditional rulers of the community were present as witnesses during the transaction.
* All is now set for the 2025 International Conference of GodLight Foundation, USA, in collaboration with the Department of Religion and Human Relations, Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University (COOU), Anambra State.
Speaking during a visit to the MD/CEO of Anambra State Solid Minerals Development Company Limited, Prof.Charles O. Ofoegbu, to brief him on the upcoming conference, the Chairman, Local Organizing Committee, Rev. Fr. Dr. Humphery Anameje, stated that the theme of the conference which is: ‘GodLight: Humanities and Science in Contemporary World Order,’ focuses on the interface between humanistic values and scientific innovation in shaping our world.
Fr. Anameje noted that the goal of the conference is to inspire transformative solutions that honour both the spirit of inquiry and the moral imperatives that must be at play in human progress.
He believed that integrating these fields is essential for addressing the complex challenges of our time.
* Managing Director of Anambra State Civic and Social Reformation Office (ANCISRO), Sir. Chuka Nnabuife, and his team, paid a courtesy visit to Anambra State’s Commissioner for Youth Development, Hon. Patrick Agha-Mba. During the courtesy visit, Nnabuife and Agha-Mba pondered avenues of collaboration in the area of reforming Ndi Anambra towards higher values and healthier social standards.
During the meeting, Nnabuife and Agha-Mba also exchanged ideas that will improve the conduct and welfare of Anambra youths and deliberated on strategic solutions their organisations offer in Governor Chukwuma Soludo’s Solution Government Agenda.
The discussions focused on fostering value orientation and driving impactful initiatives to empower the youth.
The engagement culminated into a strengthened alliance aimed at advancing the Solution Agenda to the next level, ensuring sustainable development and meaningful contributions to youth empowerment in the state.
* Anambra State Government through
Operation Clean and Healthy Anambra, OCHA Brigade has conducted a major operation on illegal miners in the state and arresting twelve suspects and sealed-off sites at Onitsha BridgeHead axis.
Speaking to newsmen, the Managing Director of OCHA Brigade, Comrade Celestine Anere told Journalists at the scene, that the activities of the suspects were equal to economic sabotage, threat to security and constitute environmental hazard.
During the operation, the agency also confiscated trucks (tippers) owned by the operators who were caught mining sands from under the bridge head at Onitsha, posing great danger to the bridge.
Those arrested have been documented and appropriate actions taken to ensure they face the consequences of their actions.
* Ifeanyi Nnaemeka popularly known as ‘Emma Ego Ise’ who is currently on the run has allegedly murderéd a 36yr old man also from Awka, the capital of Anambra State.
According to reports ‘Emma Ego Ise’ who is from Umubele Village Awka encroached on a parcel of land close to the New Governor’s Lodge at the back of Secretariat, Awka.
The issue started when he erected a fence beyond his portion, the owners came out and presented the C of O and survey plan, and they finally agreed to have a reconciliation meeting today by 12pm.
It was unknown to them that ‘Emma Ego Ise’ was actually planning something else apart from the planned reconciliation.
According to report, he brought thugs to the venue of their meeting which is the land in question and supervised the brutal killing of this man popularly known as Achala from Umuzocha Village Awka.
* The 6th substantive Rector of the Federal Polytechnic, Oko, Anambra State, Dr. Chioma Irene Awuzie has banned public spraying of cash during ceremonies in the institution.
Dr. Awuzie who assumed office on Tuesday, February 11, also outlawed packing of cars by students in spaces meant for lecturers.
In her inaugural address during the swearing in ceremony held at the convocation arena of the institution, the new Rector said that the emerging trend of cash spraying during graduation and other ceremonies is now prohibited.
* The State Commandant of Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) Anambra State Command, Maku Olatunde has highlighted the need for improved inter-agency collaboration to effectively address the complex security challenges facing the state.
Comdt. Maku made this known when he played host to CP Ikioye Orutugu, the new Anambra State Commissioner of Police on a courtesy visit at the State Command Headquarters Awka.
The NSCDC State boss while welcoming the CP to the command, acknowledged the importance of the visit which signified a renewed commitment to foster synergy between the two security agencies in the state. He assured the new CP of his readiness to work closely with him to promote peace and security in the state.
CP Orutugu while speaking, expressed gratitude to Commandant Maku for the warm reception accorded him. He stated that his visit was to formally introduce himself following his assumption of duty as the new Commissioner of Police in Anambra State and to foster enhanced cooperation between the two security agencies.
* The slain lawmaker representing Onitsha North 1 constituency in the Anambra State House of Assembly, late Hon Justice Azuka will be buried on Saturday February 15 in Onitsha, Onitsha North Local Government Area.
The Speaker, Rt. Hon. Somtochukwu Udeze gave this announcement at the resumption of plenary in the House on Tuesday February 11 after the lawmakers held a-one minute silence for the departed colleague.
Rt. Hon. Udeze while reading Azuka’s funeral arrangement as announced by his family, said the deceased would be buried on Saturday, February 15, 2025 in Onitsha and a valedictory session would be held in his honour on Friday, February 14, 2025 by 11am at the House of Assembly, Awka.

Community leaders from Awka and Ezinano have come out in defence of Ozo Jeff Nweke, dismissing the allegations as baseless.
Chief Arinze Ekelem, a community leader from Awka, described Ozo Jeff Nweke as a man of impeccable character, while Chief Richard Onuorah, another community leader from Ezinano, noted that Ozo Jeff Nweke has never been involved in any criminal engagement.
