* The Chairman, Nnewi North Local Government Area, Hon. Echezona Anazodo, has extolled the efforts of the Tax Justice and Governance Platform, (TJ&GP) working towards improved tax compliance and increased Internally Generated Revenue, (IGR) profile in Anambra State.
Hon. Anazodo made the call when he received members of TJ&GP, led by Mrs Ugochi Ehiahuruike, the Executive Director, Social and Integral Development Centre, SIDEC, the organization implementing the Tax for Service project in collaboration with Civil Society Legislative Advocacy Centre (CISLAC), with funding support from Oxfam Nigeria.
Responding to the presentations by the group, the chairman said, “When you have seen the facts, the only thing I have left for me is to accept the truth and start working on it. From your assessment, I think one thing is very sure, that if we can do more, more should also be expected from the people. They will also be willing to contribute more without using much force or adding much energy towards that.
* Hon. Mrs. Ify Anatune has splashed monetary prizes on students and pupils from different parts of the state who won the maiden edition of an essay competition organized in memory of her late husband, Mr. Joe Anatune.
The event, held at the Headquarters of the Anambra State Universal Basic Education Board (ASUBEB) in Awka, saw many students smiling home with monetary prizes ranging from N30,000 to N200,000.
A native of Awa in Orumba North Local Government Area of Anambra State, late Anatune was the Founder of B3 Communications, the mastermind behind Anambra Alliance (AA), and the Head of Media in Soludo’s 2021 gubernatorial campaign team.
* Governor Chukwuma Soludo has commended the Nigerian Army for its unwavering commitment to the fight against insecurity. He gave the commendation while receiving the General Officer Commanding (GOC) 82 Division of the Nigerian Army, Major General Thomas Olatoye and his entourage, at the Governor’s Lodge, Amawbia.
Soludo lauded the military’s role in reclaiming eight local government areas previously overrun by non-state actors when he assumed office. He emphasized that his administration is advancing to the next phase of security reforms with the newly enacted Homeland Security Laws.
In his speech, Major General Olatoye described the visit as an operational assessment of the division’s readiness and strategic initiatives. He praised Governor Soludo’s decisive actions on security. Expressing confidence in Soludo’s leadership, he urged citizens to support security efforts and emphasized the importance of non-kinetic approaches to maintaining peace.
* The Chairman, Association of Professional Bodies in Nigeria, Anambra State Chapter, Sir. Ralph Nwike, has called for proper supervision of projects, from start to finish, to end incessant building collapses in the state.
Sir. Nwike, who made the call while commenting on the three-storey building under construction that collapsed in Awka, identified sub-standard materials used for the building construction and lack of supervision as causes of the building collapse.
He urged developers to desist from using quacks for building construction and government to impose sanctions on those who build without approved building permit to stop building collapses in the state.
* Anambra Commissioner of Police, CP. Ikioye Orutugu, has received the Commissioner for Justice/Attorney General of the State Prof. (Mrs) Sylvia Chika Ifemeje with her entourage.
The familiarization visit aims to discuss on speedy prosecution of cases as well as the willingness of the Anambra State Police Command to collaborate with the key players in the administrative justice system in providing accurate evidence on cases and ensuring that justice is served swiftly and efficiently.
The Commissioner of Police in his remark, commended Anambra State Government for establishing the Bureau of Missing Persons and pledged the Command’s support in providing necessary assistance to make sure the bureau’s objective is achieved.
* The Registrar of Tansian University, located in Umunya, Oyi Local Government Area of Anambra State, Reverend Daniel Igwilo, has emerged the Secretary General of the Association of Registrars of Nigerian Universities (ARNU), also known as Conference of all the University Registrars in Nigeria.
Reverend Igwilo’s election as the Secretary General of ARNU was announced during the 76th Business Meeting of the Association held at Elizade University, an honour that also brought recognition to Tansian University.
Reacting shortly after the news filtered in, Dr Cater Dike, who doubles as the Chairman of Admissions Committee and the Acting Deputy Vice Chancellor of Tansian University, described Rev. Daniel Igwilo’s emergence as a welcome development and a pointer to the fact that the institution had taken a giant step geared towards repositioning the education sector in the country, stating that he was not surprised to see Tansian University, Umunya in the news again for the good reasons, adding that they would continue to set the pace and keep to their aims and objectives.

* The Senior Special Assistant to Governor Chukwuma Soludo on Security (Anti-Cultism), Kingsley Ezika, has presented the Anambra Homeland Security Law to the Keke Owners and Riders Association of Nigeria, Awka Zone.
Making the presentation during the Meeting of the Association held at Awka South Local Government Secretariat, Amawbia, Hon Ezika said this was to ensure all critical sections of society had full knowledge of the law.
Ezika, who explained that the contents of the law were not made to target a particular group of people but for the betterment of Anambra State, advised the Awka South Keke riders to shun cultism like a plague.
* The Managing Director of Awka Capital Territory Development Authority (ACTDA) Mr. Ossy Onuko has inspected the ongoing reconstruction of failed portion of Iyiagu flood channel in Awka, Anambra State.
The critical drainage system which channels stormwater from Awka inner city suffered severe damage during last year rainy season leading to devastating flood that submerged residential areas.
Addressing Journalists at the site, Mr. Onuko reaffirmed government commitment to mitigating the impact of flooding through strategic rehabilitation and reconstruction of drainage infrastructure. He explained that the project aligns with Governor Charles Chukwuma Soludo Public Private Community Partnership (PPCP) model ensuring sustainable urban development.
“The ongoing reconstruction is focused on restoring the damaged drainage system and improving water flow, which will also support the Fun City project currently under construction” Onuko stated.
The failure of the Sakamori drainage last year had worsened flooding in the area, underscoring the urgency of the intervention. Residents have welcomed the initiative, expressing optimism that the improved drainage system will protect them from future flood.
* The member representing Ihiala Federal Constituency in the National Assembly, Rt. Hon Pascal Agbodike, has commended the Governor Chukwuma Soludo, for what he describes as Soludo’s unwavering commitment geared towards protecting Anambra and driving out the criminals terrorizing the state.
