* A fatal road traffic crash which occurred at Area Command Junction in Nnewi, involved six male adults, one female adult, and three female children.

The incident involved five vehicles: a black commercial Sino trailer with registration number UKP-540YP, a white commercial Mercedes lorry with registration number ATN-279ZK, and three motorcycles without registration numbers.

Public Education Officer, the causes of the fatal crash were attributed to excessive speed, brake failure, and loss of control.

Eyewitnesses said the Sino trailer, fully loaded with cement, was descending a hill at high speed when it experienced brake failure, lost control, and collided with the Mercedes lorry. The trailer then crashed into a roadside shop, pushing the container shop into a nearby building.

Four male adults sustained injuries, while two male adults, one female adult, and three female children lost their lives.

* The Mayor of Idemili South local government area, Hon. Mrs Amaka Obi has flagged-off the construction of 1.3 kilometres of Umuegbu-Ukpaka Ndam Nnobi road.

The road was attracted by Hon. Mrs Amaka Obi through Public Private Community Partnership (PPCP), and facilitated by a business mogul, Chief Emeka Agbanari (Seaman Group).

Speaking during the flag-off, Hon. Obi re-emphasised the need for the participation of the private sector in the development of the council area and Anambra State.

The Mayor, who was full of praises for Chief Emeka Agbanari for touching lives of his people, appealed more people to embrace Public Private Community Partnership as government alone cannot meet all the needs of the different communities.

While congratulating the people of Nnobi for having such a kind hearted man, she expressed joy that the road will be completed in few months. She further urged residents of Nnobi community to cooperate with CEDCON Construction Company led by Engr. Denis Safe Adjarho.

* The Anambra State government have been called upon to wade into the illegal activities of some land grabbers trying to ignite crisis in various Communities across the state.

The President General (PG) of Urum Development Unuon (UDU), Sir. Felix Godwin and other stakeholders in the town made the call while speaking with Journalists in Awka on what they called illegal acquisition of land in Urum by some developers.

According to the President-General, there is the urgent need for the Governor Soludo led administration through relevant authorities to look into the manner a particular land speculator named Nwaguatahihia is weilding wealth , inciting some youths to cause problem in the community that has remained peaceful.

Sir. Godwin narrated that the Nwaguatahihia who claimed communal land was sold to him by only five families, have gone ahead to boast that he has enough money to buy over the entire town and intimidate its leadership.

* The Anambra State Government has suspended two healthcare workers sabotaging Governor Charles Soludo’s effort in health sector.

Mrs. Njideka Ezeihejiofor, was suspended for negligence and refusal to attend to a pregnant woman who delivered a stillborn baby outside the health facility on February 11, while Mrs. Blessing Offor, health worker at Uke Primary Healthcare Centre in Idemili North, was found to have been consistently absent from duty.

The panel suspended her salary indefinitely and she was directed to refund eight months of wages previously paid during her absence to the state Government.

The suspension of Ezeihejiofor was approved on Friday by the disciplinary panel chaired by the Anambra state Commissioner for Health, Dr. Afam Obidike, after investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident.

Appearing before the panel, Ezeihejiofor who is the Officer-in-Charge at Ukpo Primary Healthcare Centre Dunukofia LGA, said she turned back the pregnant patient when she came in to the facility at 11a.m, due to fatigue.

* Police Operatives attached to 3-3 Divisional Headquarters acted swiftly on a report on 15th February 2025 and arrested one Christian Ndubuisi who allegedly murdered his elder brother over a minor disagreement.

The suspect during a fight with the deceased, used a bottle he broke and stabbed his elder brother. The victim was rushed to the hospital and was confirmed dead by a doctor on duty

The Commissioner of Police, CP Ikioye Orutugu, while reacting, maintained that the incident serves as a sober reminder of the importance of conflict resolution and anger management. He noted that it was very tragic to hear that a minor disagreement escalated into a violent confrontation, resulting in the loss of life.

The CP further directed that the case be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department, Awka, assuring that justice will be served.

* Anambra Government during the weekend arrested spiritualist, Prophet Onyeze Jesus.

The arrest of Onyeze Jesus is as a result of Anambra State government efforts to regulate native doctors, citing concerns over their alleged connections to fraud and insecurity.

Security agencies have identified the activities of native doctors, who perform rituals for young men seeking quick wealth, as a significant contributor to the escalating cases of kidnapping and ritual killings.

Onyeze Jesus became popular for his controversial “quick riches” rituals, which involved taking followers to a river in Nkpor, where they would strip, hold rams, and chant while throwing money into the water.

* Stakeholders in the Nigerian Criminal Justice System and the International Community have been urged to set up a Judicial Panel of Enquiry and ensure security of lives and properties in Isuanaocha Community.

Isuanaocha, known for its sustainable peaceful atmosphere, hospitality and conviviality has been turned into a theatre of terrorism, banditry, kidnapping, armed robbery, other heinous crimes and a hideout for all manners of criminals by some individuals in the area.

Concerened indigenes of Isuanaocha Community, Hon. Richard Okoye and Mr Frederick Egwunwa in their separate speeches, made the passionate appeal in Awka, while narrating to newsmen the ordeals passed through by a former President General of the Community, Chief. Tony Onyeagolu over the lingering crisis in the area.

According to them, there is the urgent need for the Nigerian government through its Judicial system, to save the people from further attacks and abuse as well as insecurity bedeviling the once peaceful community.

* The Chairman of the National Union of Market Traders Employers of Nigeria (NUMTEN), Anambra State Council, Prince Comrade Nwafor-Orizu Nnamsom, has played host to the state leadership of the Nigeria Labour Congress ( NLC) and the Anambra state Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists,NUJ.

Prince Nwafor-Orizu used the opportunity to eulogise and congratulate Dr. Odogwu Emeka Odogwu on his re-election as the state chairman of NUJ.

Comrade Nwafor-Orizu, while addressing the labour leaders explained that his reason for the get-together was to celebrate Dr. Odogwu’s victory, describing him as a dogged fighter and goal getter, adding that his quality contributions during NLC plenary is an indication that NUJ under his watch will continue to grow from strength to strength.

While appreciating Comrade Nwafor-Orizu for the show of love and NLC leadership for the solidarity, the NUJ Chairman, Dr. Odogwu Emeka Odogwu, said the gesture is a clear demonstration of love and unity among labour leaders in Anambra state, which he said , will not be taken for granted, and promised to always cherish their relationship.

He stressed that he learnt a lot from the host while urging him not to relent in doing his best towards upholding the banner of bold colour of NUMTEM in Anambra state.

He pledged to run an all inclusive administration and perform better than he did in his first tenure, promising to prioritise members welfare and attract infrastructure that will make the union secretariat look befitting.

* The Mayor of Dunukofia Local Government Council, Hon. Chijioke Ozumba Esq. has demonstrated the zeal to ensure an improved education system for Dunukofia students and healthcare of the good people of the Local Government Area.

Ozumba reiterated that education and healthcare of the people are among the top priorities of his administration, stating that children, including the indigents among them, must be provided with the opportunity to go to school, participate in free education lessons as well as benefit from free computer training programmes of his administration in line with his Progressive and Liveable Dunukofia, (PALD), Agenda.

Speaking during the flag off of the tripatite programmes of his administration, which includes free JAMB registration of over 700 JAMB Candidates from Dunukofia Local Government Area, free NECO registration of over 300 NECO Candidates, free education lessons and computer training across the Local Government Area.

He also flagged off free enrollment of 700 indigenes of Dunukofia in the Anambra State Health Insurance Scheme, ASHIA.

* The staff members of a prominent higher institution in Anambra State have petitioned the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) against the acting head of the institution for alleged contract racketeering, public procurement violation, fraud, and financial crimes.

In a January 27, 2025 letter addressed to the EFCC Chairman, counsel to the petitioners, Silas Joseph Onu, Esq., informed the commission that an investigation into the dealings of the head of the institution with her son under various companies would reveal multiple violations of the Public Procurement Act 2007, financial misappropriation, and other public financial crimes.

The petitioners, who have chosen to remain anonymous, allege that the female acting head and her son are involved in fraudulent activities, including contract racketeering.
