* A 73-year-old native doctor with about forty years experience in practice, Mr. Christopher Nwazojie, has praised Governor Chukwuma Soludo’s onslaught against criminals hiding as native doctors in the state, saying that he would not have accepted to be a native doctor if he had choice, and would have “resigned” from his position because of reputational damages being inflicted by the bad eggs.
Mr. Nwazojie, who spoke with newsmen
on the gains of the Anambra State Homeland Security Laws, is however asking government to reconsider the ban on sacrifices by road sides and in rivers, saying it is part of traditional worship.
He regretted that “Okeite”, which he said is alien to Igbo culture and not an Anambra thing, is being embraced by many people in desperate pursuit of quick wealth, resulting in all manner of ritual killings.
* The Commissioner of Police CP Ikioye Orutugu, frowns over the escape of the two suspects involved in the murder of Late Hon Justice Azuka, Member Representing Onitsha 1 Constituency in the State House of Assembly.
Orutugu has consequently deployed both human, operational and intelligence assets of the Command for the re-arrest of the suspects and directed immediate disciplinary action against the Officers found wanton in this regard.
According to a press statement by SP Tochukwu Ikenga, Police Public Relations Officer, Anambra State Command,
Preliminary information reveals that following the confession of the criminal gang, two of the suspects assisting the Police Investigating Officers in an Operation to arrest the receiver and recover the Operational vehicles that the gang used in their deadly activities.
During the onslaught operation by the Operatives, the suspect (the receiver) was arrested and two vehicles suspected to have been snatched from the unsuspecting members of the public were recovered. Unfortunately, the other two suspects fled the scene.
The CP assured that the Command is on the offensive against every criminal element in the State and that efforts are in top gear to ensure that the suspects are re-arrested and justice served.The arring Officers well also face disciplinary action if found culpable.
* A Chinese company, Shanghai Jianhang Investment Co., Limited, has made a significant move into Anambra State, planning investments in key sectors of the state’s economy.
The Chairman of the company, Mr Yizhong Pen who was accompanied by other members of the company, acknowledged the entrepreneurship of Ndi Anambra, and said that the company is in the state for investment and partnership in some key sectors.
Welcoming the team on behalf of Governor Chukwuma Soludo, the Secretary to the State Government, Professor Solo Chukwulobelu appreciated them for considering the state for the investment and assured them of the state government’s partnership in areas that will benefit Ndi Anambra and improve the economy of the state.
* Chairman Nimo Traditional Doctors, Mr. Paul Obganaikolobia has commended Anambra State Government for its move in sanitizing the practice of culture and tradition.
The Chairman of the association while speaking in a town hall meeting on Tuesday at the EgweEgwe auditorium, Nimo, in Njikoka local government area,
said they stands with the truth.
He revealed that all of its registered members vowed to practice in truth without compromise and that they are ready to abide by the rules and regulations of Anambra State government.
* Youths of Umuatulu Ifiteani village, Enugwu-Ukwu in Njikoka Local Government Area have called on Anambra State government to direct the operatives of Operation Udo Ga-Chi to investigate the activities of one of their kinsman, Mr. Ebele Ngini
During a peaceful protest at the palace of the traditional ruler of the town, Igwe Ralph Ekpeh, Mr. Ngini was fingered of complicity in different crimes in the community.
The leader of the group, Barr. Ralph Okonkwo while speaking, fingered Mr Ebele Ngini for overthrowing the leadership of the village in June, 2024; unlawfully collecting the firearms of the vigilante and uninstalling all CCTV cameras mounted in the community.
The youth leader of the village, Mr. Onyebuchi Okeke also alleged that the said individual constantly harass women, youths, and elderly people and called on the state government to quickly intervene.
* NEROS Pharmaceuticals Limited/Anambra State Football Association Cup defending champions, Solution FC, have qualified for the final of the 2025 edition of the competition.
Solution FC booked a place in the final after a 4:1 semi final triumph over Peace FC, Tuesday at the Awka City Stadium.
Solution FC will now meet the winner of the second semi final match between Edel FC and Ozalla FC in the final scheduled for NEROS Stadium, Nanka, on Sunday, 23 February, 2025.
* Nimo Town Development Union (NTDU) Youth leader, Comrade Chidike Okwaji has appealed for all members of the community to contribute their quota towards achieving a prosperous and livable environment.
Comrade Okwaji while speaking in a town hall meeting on Tuesday at the EgweEgwe auditorium, Nimo, frowned at the ills happening, warning that drastic measures will be appealed for Nimo to be sanitized.
The Youth Leader discourage cultism, deft, intimidation, land grabbing, reckless lifestyle, indecent dressing, drugs abuse amongst others, emphasizing that Nimo Community must be sanitized and safe but that Its a collective duty in achieving the goal.
On education, the Youth Leader warned students who roam about during school hours. “Henceforth, from 9:am, any student’s found l roaming around during school hours, will be dealt-with.
* The governorship hopes of Prof. Obiora Okonkwo, lead aspirant in the race to replace Chukwuma Soludo as Anambra state governor, recieved a major boost on Wednesday when the Anambra Coalition for Progressive Change bought and donated to him, the governorship nomination and expression of interest forms of the party.
The Coalition, led by Chief Cyril Ezeani, said its decision was to encourage Prof. Okonkwo, who, according to the group, is the most prepared and more credible candidate in the race.
The Coalition had stormed the National Secretariat of APC in Abuja, where they collected the forms after all necessary formalities had been concluded to the admiration of staff of the party and supporters.
Presenting the forms to Prof. Okonkwo, at a brief ceremony that was held at his office at The Dome, the Coalition, said it would work very hard to ensure that Okonkwo’s vision for a better Anambra state was realised.
* The Speaker of Anambra State House of Assembly, Rt Hon.Somtochukwu Udeze has described as shocking and unfortunate the Press release by the State Police Public Relations Officer , SP Tochukwu Ikenga announcing the escape of two of the arrested suspects involved in the murder of Hon. Justice Azuka of Onitsha North One Constituency.
In a press statement in his office in Awka, Rt. Hon. Udeze maintained that the State House of Assembly deeply regrets the unfortunate development, which he said , casts a shadow over the otherwise commendable and professional manner in which the Police have been handling the investigation, emphasizing that the position of the State Legislature is that the fleeing suspects must be tracked and apprehended at all costs.
The Speaker called on the State Commissioner of Police to redouble his efforts and take all necessary measures to ensure that the escaped suspects are re-arrested and brought to justice, as according to him, Hon Azuka will not die in vain.
* Rotary Club of Onitsha Metropolis has emphasized the importance of vocational service in building sustainable communities.
President, Rtn. Oby Arinze stated this at a Special Vocational Fellowship in Onitsha, Anambra state which brought together Rotarians, professionals and community leaders for improved learning, service and professional growth.
