* A former governorship aspirant of the Labour Party (LP) in Anambra State, Mr. Valentine Ozigbo on Thursday, joined the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Ozigbo joined the APC at his ward in Amesi, in Aguata LGA of the state, 24 hours after resigning from the LP.
Ozigbo was warmly received by party executives and stakeholders at the ward and local government levels.
In his speech, Ozigbo outlined his grand vision for a brighter and better Anambra State, emphasising his unwavering commitment to transformational leadership, economic development, and people-centred governance
* As the political class intensify preparations for the November 8 Anambra governorship election, a group known as “Senator Ifeanyi Ubah Political Family (SIUPOF), has said that it’s leadership is working diligently and consulting widely to ensure that when the time comes, they make informed and strategic decision that aligns with the vision of their principal.
SIUPOF, in an communique signed by representatives of its ten subgroups and read by Chief Vin Onyeka, said it has not endorsed any aspirant, adding that it is committed to upholding the late Senator Ubah’s legacy and vision for a better Anambra.
The group said its political structure is built on principles of human capital development, infrastructural transformation and selfless service to the people, saying that they are carefully scrutinizing the antecedents, leadership qualities and commitment of various aspirants to the core ideals Senator Ubah championed, including good governance, economic development, security and inclusive leadership that prioritizes people’s welfare.
* Wife of the Mayor of Njikoka Local Government Council, Mrs. Pamela Amauche Ononiba has hosted a transformative One-Day Seminar on Healthy Living at the Njikoka Local Government headquarters.
The event was in collaboration with the Healthy Living initiative led by the wife of the Governor of Anambra State, Dr. Nonye Soludo.
In her remarks, Mrs. Ononiba while speaking on the importance of the seminar emphasized on the need for all to maintain good mental health and stress management and regular exercise.
Resource persons for the event, Dr. Lady Tina Akulue and Lady Ebele Okoli, in their speeches, shared valuable insights on how to manage healthy living, self-care, stress management and a balanced lifestyle.
* The Commissioner of Police, Anambra State Command, CP. Ikioye Orutugu has received the Speaker of the Anambra State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Somtochukwu Udeze, law makers and high-ranking officials of political parties in the state, at the Police Headquarters, Awka.
During the meeting, CP. Orutugu called for calm and assured the delegation that the Command is taking all necessary steps to ensure the re-arrest of the fleeing suspect and that justice will be served.
Orutugu reiterated the Command’s commitment to upholding the rule of law and maintaining public confidence in the security architecture of the state.
The Commissioner further briefed the delegation on the measures already implemented to apprehend the two suspects currently at large, as well as the disciplinary actions initiated against the officers involved in the regrettable incident.
* Police officers attached to Awada Divisional Headquarters, conducted a routine foot patrol in identified high-risk areas, around Upper-Iweka, Onitsha, intercepted and arrested Mr. Orji Chigozie.
While searching the suspect, a locally fabricated Beretta pistol concealed inside a bag was recovered.
According to SP. Tochukwu Ikenga, Police Public Relations Officer Anambra State Command, in a press statement, noted that preliminary investigations suggest that the suspect may be involved in criminal activities within the area.
“The case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Awka, for further investigation and necessary legal action. The Anambra State Police Command remains committed to ensuring the safety and security of residents”.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Ikioye Orutugu, reacting, urge members of the public to continue providing useful information that can aid law enforcement efforts in tackling crime.
* The President General (PG) Anambra State Markets Amalgamated Traders’ Association (ASMATA) Chief Humphrey Anuna, has lauded Governor Chukwuma Soludo, for the introduction of the Agunaechemba security outfit.
Chief Anuna while speaking during his birthday celebration held at ASMATA secretariat in Onitsha, maintained that the security outfit has drastically curtailed the spate of insecurity situation in the state to almost zero per cent tolerance.
The ASMATA boss disclosed that with the new security outfit, Soludo has been able to nib in the bud all manners of crimes and criminality that hitherto were torns in the fresh of the innocent residents of the state.
* Edel FC, a Nigeria National League side, on Wednesday defeated Ozalla Football Academy 3-1 on penalty kicks in the second semi final match of the 2025 NEROS/ANSFA Cup second final match at the NEROS Stadium, Nanka, after a scoreless regulation time stalemate.
With the result, come Sunday, 23 February, 2025, the final of the 2025 NEROS/ANSFA Cup will be between two NNL sides, Solution FC and Edel FC, just as it was last year, 2024.
Title holders, Solution FC, on Tuesday humbled Peace FC 4-1 to seal their place in the final.
* The Chairman of Idemili South local government area of Anambra State, Hon. Amaka Obi, has recounted the imperative of women participation in governance and leadership positions.
Mrs. Obi stated this in her welcome address during a one day sensitization programme held at the council headquarters in Ojoto.
The Meyor while speaking said the essence of the programme was to discuss leadership and governance, which are critical issues that affect all women in the society, emphasized that for the society to achieve adequate democracy and all inclusive governance, it must recognize the vital role women play in reshaping communities and the state at large positively.
Hon. Obi regretted that despite the fact that women comprise of half of the global population, they still remain under represented in governance structures.
* Leaders of Faith and Culture in Anambra State have been charged to throw their weight behind the campaign against Sexual and Gender Based Violence, (SGBV) in the area.
Facilitators made the call in Awka during a one-day training and community engagement organized by West African Broadcast and Media Academy (WABMA) and supported by Ford Foundation, under its Amplifying Leaders of Faith and Culture Voices Project.
The training was designed to build the capacity to identify and handle SGBV cases in their spheres of influence without injuring the interest or violate the rights of the survivors.
Addressing participants on the occasion, the Community Mobilization Officer at the Media Development Foundation, Mrs. Nnenna Anozie, expressed worry at the growing incidents of SGBV which according to her has made everyone a suspect.
* The Commissioner for Health in Anambra State, Dr. Afam Obidike, has warned those he described as saboteurs among the Primary Health Care (PHC) system to desist, resign or be shown the exit door by the government.
Dr. Obidike gave the warning during a multi-stakeholder dialogue and reflection session with state, local government and community PHC actors, organized for critical stakeholders in the primary health care sub-sector, under the Strengthening Partnership for Accountability, Result and Knowledge, (SPARK 11) project, funded by International Budget Partnership (IBP).
“We are not joking and the recent case in Ukpo is a testament to our serious. The woman has been suspended and may not come back into the job. The Governor does not tolerate any form of sabotage that can undermine his good intention for our people.
“We have over 3,000 nurses, over 1,000 CHEWs, and about 100 doctors waiting for us to employ them and somebody we are paying cannot stay in the facility to justify the salary she is being paid. It is better you resign before you are sacked and prosecuted.
“Any action or attitude that can jeopardize the resolve of the state government to deliver quality health delivery at the primary health care centres, is viewed seriously as sabotage and will be treated as such. Everyone should be warned”.
