* The Anambra Ministry of Health and Environment has commended Moonshine Residence, a hotel located in the heart of Nnewi, for its exceptional cleanliness.
During an inspection visit led by Mr. Ifeanyi Kenechukwu, the ministry’s representatives were impressed by the hotel’s high standards of hygiene and environmental sustainability.
According to the ministry, Moonshine Residence is one of the cleanest hotels in Anambra State, demonstrating a strong commitment to providing a healthy and safe environment for its guests.
* The Chieftain of All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA), Chief Ikenna Iyiegbu has advocated for promotion of indigenous languages, stating that such step will encourage national development.
Chief Iyiegbu made this statement as the world commemorates International Mother Language Day, maintaining that the aspect of promoting and preserving Igbo and other indigenous languages in Nigeria will not only preserve the people’s culture and customs, but will also strengthen socio-economic development.
Hon. Iyiegbu who described Igbo language as one of the widely spoken languages in the world, noted that promoting indigenous languages will facilitate the fulfillment of national development.
He stated that the administration of Governor Charles Soludo (Charlie Nwamgbafor) has strengthened the promotion and preservation of Igbo language, adding that Igbo language simplifies and play complmentary role in the ability to understand and interpret scenarios even in other languages.
* The Mayor of Njikoka Local Government Council, Barr. Chinedu Dominic Ononiba has hosted the Ohanaeze Ndi Igbo Njikoka Chapter.
The Mayor expressed his appreciation for the collective efforts of Ohanaeze Ndi Igbo and reaffirmed his commitment to supporting the cultural, social, and political interests of the Ndi Igbo in the area.
The meeting fostered an atmosphere of unity and cooperation, where ideas were exchanged to further the growth and development of the Igbo community in Njikoka.
The visit was attended by key figures, including the Chairman of the Cultural Organisation, Nze Romanus Obeleagu, as Hon. Adaobi Nweke, the Women Leader, and Hon. Afoma Okpala, the Deputy State Youth Leader.
* A human rights activist, Comrade Osita Obi says the immediate past Anambra Commissioner of Police, CP. Obono Nnaghe Itam has some questions to answer over the sudden escape of two suspects who murder the lawmaker representing Onitsha North One Constituency, Late Hon. Justice Azuka.
Obi who is the convener of the Recover Nigeria Project, made the call on Friday in Awka, Anambra State, during a press conference.
Obi called on the Inspector General of Police (IGP) and the Police Service Commission (PSC) to summon CP Itam, to explain why those arrested in connection with the kidnapping and killing of State Lawmaker Justice Azuka escaped.
He also expressed sadness over the failure of the former CP, Itam, to brief the new CP, Orutugu Ikioye, about the developments when he was leaving office.
The activist stated that the corruption in the Anambra State Police Command is being fueled by some government officials who have compromised themselves.
* The Chief of Staff to Anambra State Governor, Mr. Ernest Ezeajughi has commended Professor Charles Chukwuma Soludo CFR for promoting indigenous language and culture.
Mr. Ezeajughi stated this today as we commemorates International Mother Language Day, and appreciated Governor Soludo for his effort in sustaining Igbo language, cultures and traditions in schools.
Speaking about the theme which centers on “Silver Jubilee Celebration of International Mother Language Day, he said that, the theme does not only celebrate the 25th anniversary of the day but also encourages us to continue advocating for the preservation of our mother tongue and work towards creating inclusive society that embrace diversity.
He called on parents to teach their children Igbo language and culture, stating that all hands should be on deck to ensure the preservation of Igbo language and culture.
* As clearly stated in the press release issued after the 3rd Anambra State Executive Council (ANSEC) Meeting, the directive by the Anambra State Government to communities not to collect money from tenants for their documentation has not changed and is still in force.
The Presidents-General of the 179 communities in Anambra State should please note and ensure strict compliance to avoid consequences.

* The State Commandant of Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) Anambra State Command, Commandant Maku Olatunde has assured Nnamdi Azikiwe University, (UNIZIK) Awka of improved safety and security of lives and property in the University.
Commandant Maku gave the assurance during a working visit to the University in Awka, on invitation of the Acting Vice Chancellor Professor Joseph Ikechebelu.
Addressing the school management team, the NSCDC State helmsman commended the efforts of the Ag. Vice Chancellor and his team in fostering a peaceful learning environment in the University but appealed to them to key into the NSCDC Safe School Project to combat criminal activities within and outside the University environment.
Prof. Joseph Anyachebelu, the Ag. Vice-Chancellor while expressing his appreciation for the visit, highlighted the cordial working and seamless relationship between the University and the NSCDC, which he described as unprecedented.
The Acting Vice Chancellor pledged to collaborate with the NSCDC on the Safe School Project, aimed at enhancing the safety and security of students and staff within the university community.
* The Commissioner of Police, Anambra State, CP Ikioye Orutugu has explained situations surrounding escaped suspects
CP. Orutugu while speaking during a press briefing on Friday at the Anambra State Police Command headquarters, said the purpose of addressing newsmen is to provide clarity on the ongoing investigation into the two fleeing suspects involved in the murder of Hon. Justice Azuka, a serving member representing Onitsha one Constituency in the Anambra State House of Assembly.
“It is important to reiterate that this unfortunate incident occurred two days before I formally assumed office as the Commissioner of Police, Anambra State, on 10th February 2025.
“However, upon receiving intelligence regarding this case on 18th February 2025, I deemed it necessary to brief Ndi Anambra and the general public, reaffirming the Command’s commitment to keeping residents informed about the evolving security situation in the state.
” While they are not the principal actors in the crime, they served as drivers for the criminal gang. The duo was assisting operatives of the Rapid Response Squad (RSS) Awkuzu in apprehending one Tochukwu Akolisa from Anambra State. According to their statements, Tochukwu Akolisa was one of the receivers or buyers of stolen vehicles and belongings of their victims.
* The Media Unit of the Holy Ghost Adoration Ministry, Uke, Anambra State, has said that the Spiritual Director of the Ministry, Rev. Fr. Emmanuel Chibuzor Obimma (Fr. Ebube Muonso), was misrepresented in a malicious write-up circulated on the social media by enemies of Anambra State.
It was wrote that the Catholic priest said that killing of Anambra lawmaker, Hon.
Justice Azuka, as well as escape of two principal suspects held for allegedly killing the lawmaker were perfected because the said lawmaker belonged to Labour Party (LP) and not the All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA) where Governor Chukwuma Soludo belongs.
In a statement issued by the Media Assistant to Fr. Ebube Muonso, Mokwugwo Solomon, on Friday, said that the said write-up was maliciously curled from a comment made by Fr. Ebube Muonso during his routine prayer march, where he condemned the escape of the two principal suspects held by the police over the lawmaker’s demise.
* The Managing Director of Anambra State Waste Management Authority (ASWAMA), who is also the convener of Soludo Volunteer Force (SVF), has urged parents and guardians to preserve indigenous languages especially Igbo as the world celebrates 2025 International Mother Language Day.
Mr. Ozoemena expressed worry that Igbo language might go into extinction, because most people would not speak the dialect to their children because of modernisation.
He said that younger generation are finding it more difficult to speak or write their languages, stating that if nothing is done urgently, Igbo language will face the threat of extinction in not too distant future.
He said, it is not the responsibility of the government alone but for all stakeholders, parents, guardians and churches to preserve indigenous language and urged all to assist the government in promoting our language.
