* The Catholic Bishop of Awka Diocese, Most Rev Dr Paulinus Chukwuemeka Ezeokafor, has advised Christians to use their talents for good of humanity and for a better society.
The Catholic Bishop gave the advice while delivering a homily at a burial Mass of Chief Dominic Chiejina Igwemmar, a retired Latin Language teacher at St John Bosco Seminary, Isuaniocha and other seminaries.
Bishop Ezeokafor, who thanked God for the life and times of Pa Igwemmar whom he described as a rare gift of God to humanity, reminded Christians of the inevitability of death.
* A novel “The Space Between” authored by the Executive Director of Mount Olive School, Onitsha, Mrs Veronica Osanokpo, has been launched in Onitsha.
The 165 paged book, according to the author, Mrs Osanakpo underscores the place of friendship, love, communication, and resilience among young couples in navigating challenges in contemporary marriages portrayed through the two characters in the novel, Ojinika and Raymond.
She explained that the novel which is her first book came into reality after nine years – a testament for people to trust their dream and work towards achieving it and stressed the importance of cultivating reading culture which expands one’s horizon.
A former Governor of Anambra State, Mr. Peter Obi, during the book launch, said that Mrs. Osanakpo is one of those particular about education which should be celebrated and noted that literary work is very difficult hence his presence to motivate her.
* The Mayor of Njikoka LGA, Barr. Chinedu Ononiba, alongside the Deputy Majority Leader of the Anambra State House of Assembly, Hon. Jude Akpua representing Njikoka two Constituency, and other APGA faithful, graced the induction ceremony of Chief Engr. Ben Okongwo into the prestigious Ozoenyi society at Amaenye Village, Abagana.
In his remarks, the Mayor acknowledged Chief Okongwo’s remarkable leadership, noting that the addition of another feather to his cap was a well-deserved recognition.
“Okongwo has proven his mettle as a community leader, consistently driving progress and fostering unity in Abagana. His leadership, which has been both constructive and impactful, continues to make a difference”. the Mayor said.
* An Onitsha, Anambra based rights group, the International Society for Civil Liberties and Rule of Law (Intersociety) has accused the authorities of the National Agency for Food, Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) of deliberately victimizing some innocent traders in Onitsha.
The group called on the agency to immediately send out personnel of the Nigerian Army from Onitsha Drug Market and five adjoining others, where they were using the soldiers in the most unprofessional way to keep the market perpetually shutdown.
NAFDAC had on two different raids in Onitsha recently, announced the confiscation of large consignments of fake, adulterated and counterfeit drugs in the market, leading to the sealing off of the Bridge Head Market.
But INTERSOCIETY in a press statement by its Founder and Chairman Board of Trustees, Mr Emeka Umeagbalasi, said that inasmuch as it supported the sanitization of the system of fake drugs, it would be noted that NAFDAC was going about it the wrong way by sealing off other adjoining markets that had no dealing with drugs, and also punishing genuine drug dealers.
* Anambra Commissioner of Police, CP. Ikioye Orutugu on Monday witnessed a massive deployment of security personnel to different strategic and identified areas.
Police and other security forces intensified patrols toward security dominance in the State.
CP. Orutugu while speaking, maintained that the Command has resolved to explore every necessary legal strategy and to constantly review both kinetic and non-kinetic steps taken towards stabilizing the security of the State.
” This enhanced security presence involves: Increased patrols and surveillance, Strategic deployment of personnel and resources, Intelligence gathering and community engagement and Proactive measures to prevent and respond timely to crimes.
“This goal is to deter criminal activities, build trust with the community, and provide a secure atmosphere for economic and social growth’. The CP stated.
CP. Orutugu commended ndi Anambra
and the State Government for collectively joining voices to condemn any act that threatens our national peace. He also
hailed the launch of ‘Operation Udo Ga Chi’.
* Christians have been charged to enter into convenant with God through sacrifice for them to be blessed and protected.
A visiting priest from Christ Anglican Township Church, Umudioka, Rev. Nonso Blessed who gave the charge in his sermon at Archbishop Nweje Memorial Anglican Church, Odoakpu, Onitsha South Council Area, spoke extensively on the theme ” God Of Convenant”.
Rev. Blessed pointed out that God does not joke with anyone who enters into convenant with him as His blessings will be extended to his or her children until the fourth generation and advised them to serve God with sincere heart.
The Vicar in-charge of the church, Reverend Barrister Chukwudi Chugbo also advised Christians to be rooted in Christ, saying it is all about Jesus Christ, urging them to start, live and have their being in Him.
* A political support group, Women Initiative For Greater Anambra (WIGA) led by Hon. Mrs. Amaka Obi has appointed Chief Ernest Ezeajughi, Chief of Staff to Anambra State Governor, as Chairman of its Board of Trustees.
Speaking at the installation ceremony, Hon. Obi praised Chief Ezeajughi, describing him as “a round peg in a round hole.”.
Mrs. Obi who is also the Mayor of Idemili South LGA, commended his dedication to service delivery and unwavering loyalty to Governor Chukwuma Soludo, which she said is worthy of emulation.
Hon. Obi urged Chief Ezeajughi to continue his selfless service to the people and state, and to guide the group with his wealth of experience.
* The Labour Party Caucus in the House of Representatives has commended ongoing efforts by the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC), to crack down on merchants of fake and counterfeit medicines.
However, the caucus also urged the agency to exercise caution and ensure that its enforcement actions target only identified culprits, sparing the operations of innocent individuals and businesses.
Responding to this development in a statement in Awka, the Leader of the LP Caucus in the House of Reps, Hon. Afam Victor Ogene, said, ‘While the LP Reps commend NAFDAC for its efforts at tackling the menace of fake and adulterated drugs, we enjoin them to go about the assignment in adherence with global best practices, such that legitimate and innocent traders are not caught in the quagmire.’
* Petroleum Tanker Drivers, PTD, branch of the Nigeria Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers, NUPENG, has blamed the incessant falling and explosion of petroleum tanker vehicles across the country on human nature and poor maintenance of trucks by employers.
This came to the fore, when Anambra State Commissioner for Petroleum and Mineral Resources, Barr. Anthony Ifeanya, convened a meeting with PTD of NUPENG in his office at the Jerome Udoji State Secretariat, Awka to brainstorm on ways to prevent future occurances.
Committed to the safety of life and property of ndi Anambra, Ifeanya, requested for the data of Tanker drivers in the state, those crossing the state and their respective major distributor companies.
The Commissioner who stressed need for the establishment of Tanker Vehicle Parks on Public Private Partnership, PPP, to meet safety, regulatory standards and reduce heavy vehicle congestion on roads, adviced Tanker drivers to be careful on wheels and desist from taking hard drugs to surpress fatigue.

went home with two million naira prize as champions of competition.
