* The Commissioner of Police Anambra State, CP Ikioye Orutugu, in seeking a solution to the problems posed by cattle grazing, such as the destruction of crops, accidents and conflicts between herders and local communities in the State, is set to resuscitate the Cattle Menace Committee in the Command.
CP Orutugu stated that the aims is to mitigate on the issues caused by stray cattle/herders and the communities.
This move comes after the CP Orutugu received the Hausa/Fulani Community on a courtesy visit to his office.
The Commissioner assured ndi Anambra and residents alike that the Command under his watch shall continue to take proactive steps to address all security concerns in the State and notes that reviving the Committee will help to promote a safer and more harmonious coexistence between different communities in Anambra State.
* Native doctors from different parts of the State have gathered together to pray against the re-election of Governor Chukwuma Soludo vowing that he will not be re-elected.
The traditional worshippers condemned Soludo’s crackdown on their activities. They offered prayers and performed rituals to counter the governor’s “unwarranted interference” in their affairs.
Speaking on behalf of the group, the leader, High Priest Ikele described the governor’s actions as unjust and discriminatory.
Recall that Soludo had recently launched a campaign against cultism and social vices, which the native doctors claim targets their profession.
* As the November 8 governorship election in Anambra State approaches, the leadership of the ruling All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) has expressed confidence that the party is poised to dominate the state’s politics.
APGA State Chairman, Chief Ifeatu Obi-Okoye, stated this while welcoming some stakeholders of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Anaocha Local Government Area, who defected to APGA.
Obi-Okoye claimed that almost all known PDP leaders in the state have joined APGA.
The former PDP stakeholders were led by Chief Ugochukwu Adilieje, a former presidential aide and campaign strategist.
* The Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) Idemili Branch has sensitized their members on the latest Review of Anti-Money Laundering (AML) and Combating the Financing of Terrorism (CFT) Rules for Legal Practitioners to foster transparency and accountability.
The Chairman of the Branch, Barr. Mrs Chidi Betsy Nnaji while speaking during the first 2025 Bar meeting of the NBA Idemili Branch, at the Fountain Bar Center Ogidi High court, said the purpose of the sensitization cum training program was to prevent misuse of legal services for financial crimes.
According to Nnaji, the resolution made at the National Executive Council (NEC) meeting was to ensure that this latest rules are brought to the knowledge of lawyers through all NBA branches to avoid a lawyer becoming a victim of money laundering or sponsorship of Terrorism.
* A joint operation of the Nigerian Police and Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) officials have arrested and prosecuted 19 motorists at a mobile court within Awka Magisterial District over non-compliance to the insurance policy, which is compulsory for all vehicles on Nigerian roads.
Three of the motorists were discharged and acquitted when it was discovered that they have valid third-party insurance coverage.
Speaking to newsmen during the joint operation at the Amawbia axis of the Enugu-Onitsha Expressway, the Anambra Sector Commander of Federal Road Safety Corps, Joyce Alexander, represented by a Deputy Corps Commander, Gloria Ezugwu, explained that the enforcement will continue; as adequate awareness had been created, adding that the insurance policy is in the interest of the vehicle owners and drivers; as it provides financial compensation up to one million naira for damages, injuries or loss of life in accidents.
* Anambra State House of Assembly has called on the Director General (DG) of National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) Prof. Mojisola Adeyeye and the South East Zonal Director, Dr. Martins Iluyomade, to expedite action on the ongoing inspection and verification at the Drug, Market (Ogbogwu), Onitsha.
The lawmakers at plenary on Tuesday, also called on the Market Leaders to as a matter of necessity, urgency and well-being of ndi Anambra and Nigeria at large, to set up structure, to monitor and report accordingly such nefarious actions by traders of the market, and to ensure that traders affected by such verification are present during such execise.
The member representing Aguata two Constituency, Hon. Tony Muobike who sponsored the motion, in his submission, frowned that the closure of the drug market (Ogbogwu) and some adjoining markets since 9th February, 2025.
Hon. Muobike who is also the House Committee Chairman on Health, stated that the regulating, controlling the importation, manufacturing, advertising, distributing, sale and use of food, drugs, cosmetics, medical devices and such likes are some of the statutory responsibilities of NAFDAC.
Anambra Assembly Speaker, Rt. Hon. Somtochukwu Udeze, maintained that as representatives of ndi Anambra, the 8th Assembly will continue to protect the interest of their constituents. He urged NAFDAC to expedite inspection process.
* Following the widow period given to motorists by the Police and other traffic law enforcement agencies to obtain their third-party insurance certificate, the Commissioner of Police, CP Ikioye Orutugu, steps up the enforcement operation by the launch of ‘Operation Velvet’, aimed at addressing traffic congestion, car theft, and disregard for traffic rules and regulations in the State.
This initiative is part of the CP Orutugu efforts to promote responsible driving habits, provide financial protection for victims of road accidents, curb the incidence of car theft and protect motorists’ properties in the State.
The enforcement of third-party insurance policies is in line with the provisions of Section 68 of the Insurance Act 2003.
* In a resounding demonstration of commitment to sustainable development, Anambra State Governor Chukwuma Charles Soludo recently embarked on a strategic visit to Orumba South, reinforcing his administration’s dedication to improving infrastructure, boosting economic opportunities, and enhancing community security.

the ongoing inspection and verification at the Drug, Market (Ogbogwu), Onitsha is inflicting pains on traders.

Tony Muobike, calling on the Director General (DG) of NAFDAC Prof. Mojisola Adeyeye and the South East Zonal Director, Dr. Martins Iluyomade, to expedite action on the ongoing inspection and verification at the Drug, Market (Ogbogwu), Onitsha, stated that the agency should have gathered enough intelligence before coming to Anambra.
” Am not commending NAFDAC for locking-up the market for more than 21 days. If it is taking them this long to arrest those involved, it means they are doing a bad job. They should have done proper investigation with sufficient gathering before coming to the market strategazing.
* The Commissioner of Police, CP Ikioye Orutugu, remains committed to seeking sustained seamless coordination among other security agencies in the State.
According to the CP, this approach is essential in ensuring a unified response to security challenges, promoting public safety and upholding the rule of law.
The CP stated this during a familiarization visit to the State Director DSS and Commander NDLEA at their offices in the State capital, Awka.
