* President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the appointment of Dr. Chioma Irene Awuzie as the substantive Rector of Federal Polytechnic Oko.

The Polytechnic Public Relations Officer, Mr. Chijioke Ibeziako, in a press statement, noted that the appointment which is for a term of five years takes effect immediately.

The Governing Council of the polytechnic led by Senator Dr. Barnabas Gemade, after a transparent and competitive selection process recommended three names to the President with Dr. Awuzie as the frontline candidate.

* Residents of Anambra have welcomed the arrival of the mango season, but many are expressing concerns over the high cost of the fruit.

Unlike previous years when mangoes were abundant and affordable, this season has seen a high increase in prices, making it less accessible to many consumers.

In Odumodu Junction, Umunya in Oyi Local Government Area, small bowl of mangoes which contains 10 pieces was sold for around ₦1000 last year, but now goes for as much as ₦4000.

Chairman Freenews, editorial board, Mr. Obinna Mbonu in his speech before presenting the award to Okoma at his office in Awka on Wednesday, commended the Commissioner for his dedication, uncommon patriotism, good character, beneficial experience, engineering and developmental skills.

The Commissioner of Works and Infrastructure, Anambra State, Engr. Ifeanyi Okoma while responding after receiving the awards alongside Permanent Secretary of the ministry and other staff, expressed excitement for the recognition, stating that the ministry is ready to do more.

* The Police Service Commission has announced the transfer of Anambra State Commissioner of Police, Obong Nnache Itam, and appointed Livingstein Ikioye Orutugu from Bayelsa State as his replacement.

This development comes amidst a surge in criminal activities, including kidnapping and the recent Nibo massacre, which has sparked widespread concern among residents.

According to Ikechukwu Ani, Head of Press and Public Relations, the Commission Chairman, DIG Hashimu Argungu, has charged the new CP to settle down quickly and ensure there is no gap in law and order.

The new CP has also been tasked with dedicating himself to duty and assisting in freeing Nigeria from the menace of bandits and deviants.

* The 2025 Neros Pharmaceuticals Anambra Football Association (FA) will Kick-start on Friday, 7th February, as
St. Nwadinso Football Academy of Oba will confronte Game Changers FC in the opening match of the competition.

Three venues will be used for this year’s matches namely the Awka City Stadium, Neros Stadium Nanka and Rojenny Stadium Oba.

The draw ceremony of the prestigious competition which was held at the Anambra State Football Association (ANSFA) Secretariat on Wednesday, saw a total of eleven football clubs entering for the 2025 edition alongside defending champions and Nigeria National League (NNL) side, Solution FC and last year’s runners up, Edel FC.

According to the draws, the competition
will be concluded on Sunday, 23rd February, 2025 with the finals billed for the Neros Stadium Nanka, Anambra State.

Defending champions, Solution FC will begin the quest to defend their title from the quarter final stage and will play the winner of the match between St. Nwadinso FA Versus Game Changers FC.

Peace FC will wait for the winner of the clash between Olive Charles FA and BONFA FC, while Ozalla Football Academy will engage Blacksmithers FC in the round of 8 while Edel FC will face the winners of Obosi United versus Rangel FC.

* Njikoka Local Government Area Chairman, Barr. Chinedu Ononiba has embarked on an inspection tour of the project at Amaeñe Village, Oye Agu Abagana Market construction.

Hon. Ononiba while speaking during the inspection, retreated his commitment in delivering infrastructure projects that will benefit ndi Njikoka.

The Mayor stated that he was in the market to ensure the timely completion of the project which is expected to boost economic activities in Njikoka.

According to the Mayor, the Oye Agu Market, once completed, will provide a modern and conducive trading environment for locals and visitors alike.

* The kidnapped Anambra lawmaker representing Onitsha North One Constituency, Hon. Justice Azuka, has been killed by his abductors.

The Police Public Relations Officer,
Anambra State Command, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, in a press statement noted that the Joint Security team comprising of Police and AVG Operatives on a mission to rescue abducted Hon. Azuka, regrettably found his lifeless body at the scene. In the early hours of Thursday at the second niger bridge,

* The Chairman, Anambra State Local Government Service Commission, Barr. Vincent Ezeaka has charged Head of Local Government Administrations, (HLGAs) in all the twenty one local government areas of the state to be alive to their duties of promoting all the visions and works of Governor Chukwuma Soludo in communities in their local government areas.

Barr. Ezeaka made the call during his first meeting in 2025 with all the HLGAs of the state, held at the Local Government Service Commission in Awka.

Addressing the HLGA’S in his opening speech, Barrister Ezeaka reminded them that they are part of the Solution Government and should project the development strides of the Governor which is part of the reasons they were given the appointment.

* The Speaker of Anambra State House of Assembly Rt. Hon. Somtochukwu Udeze
has mourn the demise of the member representing Onitsha North One Constituency, Hon. Justice Azuka.

Rt. Hon. Somtochukwu Udeze while paying tribute, in a press statement, described late Azuka as a dedicated lawmaker, a true representative of his people who approached his legislative duties with passion.

“With a heavy heart, we mourn the tragic loss of our dear colleague, Hon. Justice Azuka, member representing Onitsha North 1, whose life was cut short in an act of unimaginable cruelty. Since his abduction on December 24, 2024, we had fervently hoped and prayed for his safe return, but today, we are faced with a devastating reality.

* The National Coordinator, Booth 2 Booth with Bola Tinubu, Iyke Madu has charged the National Chairman of APC Alhaji Umar Ganduje to ensure that the party conducts a free and fair primary election in Anambra state ahead of the November governorship polls in the state.

The group made the call during a courtesy visit to the Chairman and the National Working Committee at the APC National Secretariat in Abuja.

Booth 2 Booth with Bola Tinubu is a support group that campaigned vigorously for President Tinubu during the 2023 presidential election.
