* Governor Chukwuma Soludo has reminded traditional rulers, Presidents General, and other community leaders in the state that their primary responsibility is to ensure peace and harmony in their various towns, threatening to remove any of them who fails the people in that regard.

The Governor made this known at Government House, Awka, through his Deputy, Dr. Onyekachukwu Ibezim who is also the Chairman of the state’s Boundary Committee, during a meeting with stakeholders of Eziaguluotu-Aguleri and Umuoba Anam both in Anambra East Local Government Area, on boundary issues.

Governor Soludo advised people of Eziaguluotu-Aguleri and Umuoba Anam to give peace a chance and seize every activity on the disputef land, as government will not allow any act that threatens public peace, adequate security of life and property.

 

* Anambra Police Command has organized a one day sensitisation program in order to ensure that private and commercial drivers are in tune with the knowledge and importance of the third-party Insurance Policy

The program held in the state Police Command Headquarters, Awka on Thursday, had in attendance Heads of relevant agencies including Federal Road Safety Corps, State Motor Licencing Office, Vehicle Inspection Office, Anambra Road Transport Management Agency,. amongst others.

In his remarks, the outgoing state Commissioner of Police, Mr Nnaghe Obono Itam said the program was borne out of the desire to ensure proper understanding of the third party insurance policy by drivers.

Itam informed that there would be a one week sensitisation period tagged Operation Velvet which will be followed by full scale enforcement that would involve mobile courts.

 

* Operation Clean and Healthy Anambra, OCHA Brigade has extended its demolition exercise to Owerri road in Onitsha.

Speaking to newsmen, the Managing Director of the Brigade, Comrade Celestine Anere warned the traders against returning to government restricted areas for their daily businesses and assured that the state government will not relent in ensuring orderliness and sanity, especially in the markets.

Anere revealed that traders around Owerri Road were seen trading on the drainages and on the street which leads to the heavy traffic around the axis and Upper Iweka.

OCHA Brigade has covered Igbariam, Awkuzu, and Ogbunike axes of Enugu-Onitsha Expressway and New Parts, Nkpor where series of warning and notices were issued on the occupants but fell on deaf ears.

The demolition tagged “operation clear all shanties” brings it to day five of the exercise.

* The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC), has took its sensitization campaign to Nnewichi, a community in Nnewi North Local Government Area of Anambra State, where it warned secondary school students against the dangers of substance abuse and other harmful practices.

The campaign was part of NAFDAC’s efforts to educate the public particularly the younger generation on the importance of safe practices for a fulfilling and healthy living.

Director General of NAFDAC, Prof. Christiana Adeyeye, in his address at the event held Nnewichi Community Secondary School, emphasized the dangers of substance abuse, particularly among young people.

* Anambra State government has
commiserates with the Speaker and members of the 8th Assembly on the passing of Hon. Justice Azuka, member representing Onitsha North One Constituency.

* Members of Tax Justice and Governance Platform, (TJ&GP) have extolled the relentless efforts of the Anambra Internal Revenue Service, (AiRS), which has resulted in progressive growth in its internally generated revenue, (IGR).

The group, consist of civil society advocates, media practitioners, traders and artisans, made the commendation during an advocacy visit to the Chairman, Anambra Internal Revenue Service, (AiRS), Dr Greg Ezeilo, under its Tax for Service Project, implemented in collaboration with Civil Society Legislative Advocacy Centre, (CISLAC) and funded by Oxfam Nigeria.

Led by the Executive Secretary, Social and Integral Development Centre, (SIDEC), Ugochi Ehiahuruike, the group noted that the state current administration of Governor Chukwuma Soludo has justified those collections with on-going development strides.

* Members of the National Youth Service Corps, (NYSC), currently undergoing the three weeks orientation programme at the Nnamdi Azikiwe NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp in Mbaukwu/Umuawulu, Awka South Local Government Area of Anambra State have participated in a thrilling inter-platoon drill competition.

Ten participating platoons displayed their dexterity in parade skills — in quick and slow match — to the fascination of spectating camp officials and other guests at the event.

The Anambra State Co-ordinator of NYSC, Mrs. Blesssing Iruma, in her remarks, explained that the competition is the hallmark of the training of the corps members during their orientation programme in order to develop their capacity, leadership abilities, and discipline.

The Camp Commandant, Captain Yakubu Suleman also added that parades showcase the readiness and smartness of a particular unit and explained that the training the corps members have acquired during the period of the orientation course, has made them better prepared for the task ahead.

* The Labour Party (LP) Caucus of the House of Representatives has said that it is deeply saddened and devastated by the news of the death of its party man and member of the Anambra State House of Assembly, Hon. Justice Azuka, representing Onitsha North state constituency after a prolonged period of captivity in the hands of kidnappers.

The LP House of Representatives Caucus leader and, member representing Ogbaru Federal Constituency of Anambra state, Hon Afam Victor Ogene in a statement described the incident as “Horrendous, heart-rending and a big blow to the Labour Party and the legislature.”

The LP caucus leader had earlier in January called on the Anambra State Governor, Professor Chukwuma Soludo to take urgent and decisive action to secure the release of the abducted state lawmaker and also address the growing insecurity in the State, which according to him “has become notorious for kidnappings and killings”.

The Rep members expressed their heartfelt condolences to the family of the late lawmaker, especially his young wife and children, who have been thrown into deep sorrow as a result of this dastardly act of great wickedness by criminals.

* Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in Anambra State has called on vulcanizers to uphold high professional standards toward reducing road traffic crashes in the State.

Sector Commander Joyce Nnennaya Alexander made the charge at a one-day workshop with the Awka South Vulcanizer Union, which is in line with the Corps’ Vision to eliminate road traffic crashes and promote a safer motoring environment.

Alexander explained that the engagement with the vulcanizers was necessary in view of the services they provide, which have a direct link with road safety.

The FRSC boss emphasized the need for collaboration between FRSC, Vulcanizer Union, transport authorities, and associations on awareness campaigns to educate drivers on proper tyre maintenance and the dangers of poor repairs.

has tasked mothers and care-givers to lay solid health foundation for their children to guarantee a future full of opportunities and possibilities.

the Mayor who spoke through the LGA Secretary, Hon. Paul Chidubem Okoye during the flag off of Big Catch up routine immunization campaign (2nd round) at the Mch Health Center Ogidi, stressed the importance of every child undergoing all the routine and other forms of immunization as specified and approved by World Health Organization (WHO), United Nations Children Fund (UNICEF), Federal and State Government.

The sponsors of the program, Anambra State Primary Healthcare Development Agency (ASPHDA) in collaboration with United Nations children fund (UNICEF) and other donor agencies during the flag off Big Catch Up Routine Immunization, urged everyone to join Advocacy For Complete immunization of children.

In her address, the Idemili North Local Government Area (INLGA) Primary Health Care (PHC) Director, Mrs. Chinwe Okeke said that the reason for Big Catch Up ]Routine Immunization Campaign which will run from February 10 to February 15, 2025 simultaneously in nine LGAs in Anambra State, was to ensure that children who were not immunized or who skipped some routine immunization would be immunized.
