# Anambra Joint Security Force at Aguata recovered an additional AK-47 rifle with a fully loaded magazine in the late hours of Wednesday, 9th July 2025.
The weapon is believed to have been abandoned by fleeing armed criminals following a sustained pursuit by security operatives.
Spokesperson Anambra State Police Command, SP. Tochukwu Ikenga in a press statement, maintained that the
development follows a violent incident in which assailants opened fire indiscriminately under the Ekwulobia flyover and launched an attack on the Oko Divisional Police Headquarters earlier the same day.
“The Anambra State Police Command acknowledges and appreciates the continued cooperation and support of residents within the affected communities.
“Members of the public are urged to remain vigilant and promptly report any suspicious activities to the nearest security agency.
“The area remains calm and under control, with surveillance and intelligence operations ongoing to apprehend the remaining suspects connected to the attacks”. Ikenga stated.
# Awka educational zone has emerged the overall winner of the Schools State Finals with 9 gold, 11 Silver and 6 bronze,
Onitsha Zone came second place with 5 gold, 6 silver and 2 bronze while Aguata zone took third position with 5 gold and 1 silver.
The Schools State Finals of Under 12 Boys and Girls 2021SUBEB/UBEC Intervention Sports Competitions, organized by Anambra State Universal Basic Education Board, ASUBEB in collaboration with Universal Basic Education Commission, UBEC, held at Awka City Stadium.
The tournament which aimed at providing well rounded development for pupils and students from the 21 local government areas of Anambra state featured football, ncho, relay races and award presentations.
The Commissioner for Education, Professor Ngozi Chuma-Udeh in her remarks said that sports is life noting that Governor Chukwuma Soludo came prepared to revitalize every moribund sector of Anambra State and deserves appreciation.
In their remarks the Executive Chairman ASUBEB, Dr Vera Nwadinobi and Chairman Anambra Sports Commission, Honourable Patrick Onyedum described the event as a celebration of energy, resilience, team work and youthful excellence and expressed the commitment of ASUBEB and UBEC to providing well rounded education for school children in Anambra state
noting that the ASUBEB/UBEC Intervention Sports Competitions is an avenue to shop for budding talents.

# The Anambra State Police Command is set to commence the training/reorientation of Vigilante operatives in the State.
The Command has began the documentation and necessary health checks of the operatives.
The training aims to equip the Vigilante operatives on security protocols, human rights, and community policing security principles to enhance collaboration with the Police and other security agencies for overall safety and security in the State.
It shall also feature lectures on Ethics and Professionalism, Synergy with other Security agencies, Management of crime scene, rule of law, and handling of exhibits as well other necessary security need-to-know.
# In bid to strategise for the forthcoming gubernatorial election, the All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA), Awka-Etiti ward one holds strategic meeting.
The meeting which was in preparation of November 8th gubernatorial election and to make sure that all the eligible voters takes advantage of the ongoing Continuous Voter Registration(CVR), excercise in the state.
The meeting was attended by the Mayor of Idemili South, Hon. Mrs Amaka Obi, Idemili South APGA Chairman, Chief Kizito Anoliefo, ward chairman and the executives.
# Governor Chukwuma Soludo says his administration is committed to building a tech-driven and business friendly environment in Anambra state.
Soludo, represented by his Deputy, Dr Onyekachi Ibezim, gave the assurance at the maiden State Action on Business Enabling Reforms (SABER) technical session and statewide town hall meeting in Awka.
The event formed part of the nationwide tour by the Presidential Enabling Business Environment Council (PEBEC).
# The Commissioner of Police Anambra State Command, CP. Ikioye Orutugu has reiterated the Command’s commitment to restoring lasting peace and security in the State.

# The Soution Witness Support Group has paid a courtesy visit to the Chairman of Idemili South Local Government Area, Hon. Mrs Amaka Obi, in her office.
Addressing Mrs. Obi, the Anambra State Chairman, Solution Witness Support Group, Sir Felix Okechukwu said the visit was to align with the Chairman and brainstorm strategies to canvass vote for Governor Chukwuma Soludo’s re-election bid come November, 8th, 2025.
Okechukwu outlined the activities of the group and also deliberate on the way forward for the people of Idemili South to vote Mr Governor.
He stressed that the Solution Witnesses spread across the 21 local government and down to the ward level is mandated to ensure that Soludo’s vote counts and secured.
Responding, the Mayor appreciated the support group for finding time to pay her a visit and discuss some pertinent issues in the state. She noted that there is need to enhance grassroot membership. Adding that she believes in inclusive leadership where all hands are on Deck.
Obi assured that the council will work with the Solution Witness Memeber at the ward level noting that the ward structures should be active and ready to deliver in their various polling units.
# Anambra State Local Government Service Commission has been honoured with ‘Freenews Gold Star Millennium Excellence Performance Award’.
Presenting the award, the Chairman of FreeNews Magazine, Editorial Board, Mr. Obinna Mbonu said after its findings, Anambra State Local Government Service Commission emerged the best performing.
According to Mbaonu, between January and June 2025, FreeNews Magazine,
published by Obev Industries Limited
(a Port Harcourt, Rivers State, Nigeria based mass communication firm),
decided to study the performance of some Nigeria Components States Local Government Service Commission. He maintained that after FreeNews Magazine findings, the commission has performed its functions beyond the call of duty, objectives, responsibilities and functions under the administration of Governor Chukwuma Soludo.
