# Anambra Police Command has commenced the training and orientation programme for vigilante operatives across the state.
The ongoing programme is strategically focused on human rights education, adherence to the rule of law, and standard operational procedures in security practice.
The capacity-building initiative is in line with the directive of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP. Kayode Egbetokun, to deepen community policing, promote inter-agency synergy, and enhance professionalism among security actors from the grassroots.
The training features resource persons drawn from senior and experienced Police Officers within the Command, sister security agencies, civil society organizations, human rights groups, and other security stakeholders.
These facilitators are guiding the participants on best practices in community safety, intelligence gathering, ethical conduct, and lawful engagement strategies.
# Graduating students of Anglican Girls Grammar School (AGGS) Onitsha have been tasked to uphold purity and integrity as they leave the secondary school environment into tertiary institutions and the larger society.
The charge was given to them during the 2024/2025 Valedictory service, Graduation/Prize-Giving day ceremony which held at the school auditorium, Onitsha.
Presenting her welcome address, the Principal AGGS Onitsha, Lady Maureen Anyaenetu urged the outgoing students to uphold “Purity, Integrity and Hardwork’ which were virtues that would help them achieve success in any area of endeavor as they grow into adulthood.
# Governor Chukwuma Soludo has approved the appointment of Mr. Joachin Chinedum Achor as Acting Accountant General of Anambra State, effective immediately.
Press Secretary to the Governor Mr. Christian Aburime, in a press release stated that Achor rised through the ranks from entry level to Director, Permanent Secretary, and now Acting Accountant General.
“Mr. Achor’s rise to this appointment as acting Accountant-General, exemplifies excellence and dedication to public service in Anambra State” the press release stated.
# Anambra Commissioner of Police, CP. Ikioye Orutugu has reiterated that the ongoing training and orientation programme for vigilante operatives across the state is part of the Command’s broader efforts to institutionalize professionalism and discipline among local security operatives supporting internal security.
Orutugu further emphasized that respect for the fundamental rights of citizens and close coordination with formal law enforcement agencies are core expectations for all vigilante operatives.
He urged all community-based vigilante groups to remain law-abiding and cooperate fully with Divisional Police Officers (DPOs) and Area Commanders to ensure smooth coordination and supervision throughout the exercise.
According to the Police boss, the Command remains resolute in promoting a safer, more secure society, where community partnership remains central to lasting peace and development.
# The Majority Leader of Anambra State House of Assembly, Hon. Ikenna Ofodeme has been honoured with ‘Ambassador Of Democracy And Good Governance’ award.
Hon. Ofodeme who is the lawmaker representing Ekwusigo constituency, received the award in his office on Thursday from Freenews Magazine, published by Obev Industries Limited (a Port Harcourt, Rivers State, Nigeria based mass communication firm).

# Chairman of the PDP Governors’ Forum Bala Mohammed has paid a solidarity visit to Hon. Jude Ezenwafor, the PDP’s governorship candidate for Anambra State who was recently shot by unknown gunmen in Abuja.
The delegation was led by Mohammed who is also the Governor of Bauchi State. He was accompanied by Acting National Chairman Ambassador Umar Iliya Damagum, Speaker of the Bauchi State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Abubakar Suleiman; Bauchi PDP Chairman, Pharm. Hamza Samaila Burga; and SSA on Strategy and Special Duties, Eric Anyamene.
Speaking, Governor Mohammed expressed deep concern over the attack, prayed for Ezenwafor’s speedy recovery and reaffirmed the PDP’s unwavering support for his candidacy ahead of the November 2025 election.
In his remark, Anambra PDP Chairman, Hon. Chidi Chidebe, expressed gratitude for the visit and commended the party’s national leadership for their solidarity, emphasizing that the PDP in Anambra remains strong and united.
# Former Orumba-North and South national assembly representative, Hon. Chief Okwudili Christopher Ezenwankwo has declared in very strong terms that he will capture Orumba-North and South for Governor Charles Chukwuma Soludo in the forthcoming November 8th Anambra governorship election.
Ezenwankwo who made the declaration during an interview with newsmen in Umuchu, Aguata LGA, said he is the grand master of the game and well rooted in the grassroots even as he equally made it categorically clear that there is absolutely no opposition in Orumba-North and South local government areas.
Ezenwankwo who returned to the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) recently after a brief sojourn in other political parties, maintained that Governor Charles Chukwuma Soludo is working and that concrete evidence of his transformative governance abound in the state.
# The gubernatorial candidate of New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP), Prof. Geoffrey Onyejegbu, has vowed to bring change to Anambra State security architecture if elected in November 8, 2025 Governorship Election in the state.
Speaking in an interview with newsmen at All Saints Cathedral Onitsha, Anambra State during the 2025 Diocese on the Niger Men’s Fellowship Convention, Col Onyejegbu said part of his programmes for a new security architecture in Anambra State was to grant amnesty to the boys causing insecurity in the state.
Prof Onyejegbu said some have come to agree that he is the only person who can debate and chew Governor Chukwuma Soludo like cracker biscuit.
# A Federal High Court sitting in Awka, Anambra State capital on Wednesday ruled against Mr Valentine Ozigbo, an aspirant of the All Progressives Congress (APC), who had challenged the election of Prince Nicholas Ukachukwu as candidate of the party for the November 8 governorship election in Anambra.
The court presided over by Justice Evelyn Anyadike said that Ozigbo was unable to prove conclusively that Ukachukwu was not a eligible for the primary election which was held on April 5.
Valentine Ozigbo had petitioned the court to nullify Ukachukwu’s candidacy, arguing that the latter was not legitimately qualified to contest the party’s primary election.
But in her judgement, Anyadike held that while there were discrepancies worthy of concern in the documentation presented by Ukachukwu, but said that the court lacked the jurisdiction to substitute one candidate for another.
