# The Head, Department of Early Childhood and Primary Education, Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, Prof. Ifeoma Obumneke-Okeke, has appealed to the University Management for the allocation of the Chinua Achebe Building to the Department, as well as the conversion of Crèche minders to full-time University staff.

Prof. Obumneke-Okeke made the passionate appeal during the 4th Graduation Ceremony of the University Crèche held at the Chinua Achebe Building, UNIZIK.

She explained that the Crèche, which began in 2018 and was officially commissioned by the then Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic), Prof. Charles Esimone, has continued to grow steadily with full support from the University Management.

According to her, the staff strength has risen from two to thirteen, offering reliable services to the University community and beyond. She noted that the Crèche has provided a vital service, giving parents peace of mind to go about their daily duties knowing their children are safe and close by.

# The Anambra State Football Association (ANSFA) is celebrating its board member and chairman of its media committee, Ralph Chidozie George for the great achievement of Commentating some matches of the Women Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON 2024) in Morocco.

Chairman of ANSFA, Chief Chikelue Iloenyosi while pouring encomiuns on the SuperSport commentator, described George as a dedicated and passionate lover of the game.

Ralph Chidozie George just returned from Morocco where he commentated four matches (three group C games and the Algeria vs Ghana quarter final) of the Women Africa Cup of Nations.

CAF in recent years selected some ex players from Nigeria as analysts (colour commentators) but for WAFCON 2025 they picked the former Radio Nigeria, Brila FM and Cosmo FM presenter as a lead English commentator.

Over the years Ralph Chidozie George has grown to become one of the renowned sports commentators in the Country.

Apart from football he has been involved in Boxing, Athletics and Tennis commentating which remarkably stands him out.

# A fatal road traffic crash which occurred along Nnewi-Okigwe road by Amichi claim
five lives: two adult males, one male child, and two female children.

Five other individuals sustained injuries. In total, ten people (4 male adults, 1 female adult, 3 male children, and 2 female children) were involved in the incident, which took place on Friday, July 25, 2025.

Anambra FRSC Spokesperson, Margaret Onabe, in a press release stated that
Preliminary investigations suggest that the crash was caused by brake failure.

# The Anambra State Football Association (ANSFA) has served Barr. Iyke Igbokwe a five-year ban from all State Football Related activities.

ANSFA Chairman, Chief Chikelue Iloenyosi in a release made available to the media in a letter dated 19th July, 2025 with the title, “Re- notification of disciplinary action and five year ban from all football related activities in Anambra State”

The ANSFA in the letter also copied the Commissioner of Police, Anambra State; Secretary of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), Abuja; Chairman of the Anambra State Sports Development Commission and the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) Nnewi Police Station.

# Anambra FRSC Sector Commander, Joyce Nnennaya Alexander has expressed her condolences to the victims’ families of a fatal road traffic crash which occurred along Nnewi-Okigwe road by Amichi claim five lives: two adult males, one male child, and two female children.

During her visit to the crash scene upon arrival, Alexander met with the FRSC towing team, which was working to remove the vehicles involved in the incident.

The FRSC boss was received by the Mayor of Nnewi South, Honorable George Ezeogidi, who had been in contact with her even while she was leaving Abuja, along with the Unit Commander of Nnewi.

Alexander also met with the lawmaker representing Nnewi South two Constituency at the Anambra State House of Assembly, Hon. Nonso Atuchukwu and VPG of Amichi, Hon. Emmanuel Nzubechukwu, along with other council members of Amichi.

After supervising the towing operation, she visited several hospitals in the company of the PG, to meet with the victims of the crash and check on their recovery progress.

While discussing future collaborations, she advised the Mayor and the council members to work with the FRSC to organize a town hall meeting aimed at educating the motoring public in their jurisdiction.

# Governor Chukwuma Soludo, has reiterated his administration’s commitment to partnering with professional engineers in the state to tackle the menace of building collapse caused by quackery in the construction sector.

The Governor made this known through his Deputy, Dr. Onyekachukwu Ibezim, when members of the Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE), Awka Chapter, paid him a courtesy visit at the New Government House, Awka.

Soludo, who emphasized that the role of engineers in societal development cannot be overemphasized, urged the association to intensify efforts in monitoring engineering practices to curb the activities of quacks in the profession.

Earlier, the Chairperson of the association, Engr. MaryJane Okoli; who led the delegation, commended the Governor for his developmental strides across the state, and appealed for stronger collaboration between the association and the state government.

# The Anambra State Football Association (ANSFA) under the leadership of Chief Chikelue Iloenyosi and the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) have paid tributes to the late Senator Dr. Patrick Ifeanyi Ubah, a year after his demise.

In a message by Chief Iloenyosi on Saturday, 26th July, 2025 at his base in Abuja, the ANSFA Boss lamented the loss of Late Ubah stating that since his demise, Anambra lost a great icon in all spheres of human endeavour especially in the sporting circus.

late Ubah represented Anambra South Senatorial Zone at the National Assembly where he made significant impact in football through FC Ifeanyi Ubah; One Family One Footballer project and numerous moral, financial support to the national teams and other football programs in the nation.

Chief Iloenyosi fondly known as the ‘The General’ stated that Sen. Ubah was more than a lawmaker but an entrepreneur par excellence, grassroots mobilizer, a philanthropist and a true voice of the marginalized.

# The Anambra State Police Command is aware of a disturbing narrative currently circulating across public platforms concerning the death of Mr. Okechukwu Akaneme, a respected figure in the Onitsha business community and former President of the Onitsha Chamber of Commerce.

According to reports, the late Mr. Akaneme allegedly sustained life-threatening injuries following an enforcement operation purportedly carried out by personnel of the Anambra State Waste Management Authority (ASWAMA), allegedly accompanied by armed police officers, on 11th October 2024.

It is further alleged that this operation, in the course of enforcing waste management compliance, resulted in Mr. Akaneme suffering spinal injuries from which he never fully recovered ultimately leading to his reported demise on 10th July 2025.

Anambra Police Spokesperson SP. Tochukwu Ikenga through a press release maintained that the Command expresses its deepest condolences to the family, friends, and colleagues of the late Mr. Akaneme and recognizes his significant contributions to the state’s socio-economic development.

In response to the allegations, the Command acknowledges that an internal inquiry was previously initiated surrounding the circumstances of the injury sustained by Mr. Akaneme in October 2024.

# The Women’s Wing of Umunze community in Orumba South LGA has thrown its full weight behind the administration of Governor Chukwuma Soludo and the Member Representing Orumba North and South in the Federal House of Representatives, Hon. Princess Chinwe Nnabuife.

In a peaceful demonstration that doubled as a solidarity match, the women denounced the false accusations recently leveled against Hon. Nnabuife, and expressed unwavering support for her leadership.

The match, which kicked off from Umunze Roundabout, proceeded through Nkwugbara Ibua, and ended at the Orumba South Local Government Secretariat.

Addressing the women on behalf of the Chairman, the Council Secretary, Rev. Chinedu Onyeacho, commended them for their show of solidarity, and urged them to disregard what he described as baseless accusations, saying that criticism and opposition are natural elements of politics, and encouraged Hon. Nnabuife to remain focused on her mandate and continue delivering quality representation.

Speaking to newsmen, the Umunze Women Leader, Mrs. Amaka Iroegbu, and her Assistant, Mrs. Uche Nduka, stated that the protest was necessary to address attempts to use Hon. Nnabuife’s name for extortion, and to counter the negative narratives being spread about her on social media.

They called on the local government to take action against those attempting to tarnish the image of Hon. Nnabuife, whom they described as a true servant of the people, even as they reaffirmed their total support for both Hon. Nnabuife and Governor Soludo.
