# In a bold reaffirmation of his commitment to grassroots development, the Member representing Aguata One Constituency in the Anambra State House of Assembly, Hon. Anayo Okpalaeke, has declared that access to quality healthcare is not a privilege but a fundamental right of every citizen.

Okpalaeke made this known during a community outreach event held in Achina, Aguata Local Government Area, where over 150 constituents were officially enrolled into the Anambra State Health Insurance Scheme (ASHIA), with their medical bills fully covered for one year under the initiative.

The lawmaker in his remark praised Governor Chukwuma Soludo and the Anambra State Government for their progressive support of the health insurance platform, describing the initiative as a model of people-centered governance. He also commended his constituents for their continued support.

# C-Unit Bold Step Talent Hunt Project has been held at Nnamdi Azikiwe University, with participants from Awka and beyond displaying their talents.

The talents displayed include music, dance, acting, poetry amongst others.

The Coordinator of the talent hunt project, Mrs. Maureen Ani, revealed that the music artists, Onyebuchi and Onyedikachi Ike, known with their stage name C-Unit, sponsored the talent hunt, given their struggle for a platform during the early days of their career, noting that the winner will face other talents in a South East contest aside rewards that would be given them.

The President of War Against Drug Abuse, WADA, UNIZIK, Awka, Dr. Alexander Orji and one of the judges, Mr. Michael Ugokwe noted that the talent hunt is a positive way to channel youthful energy away from drug abuse and crimes, commending the sponsors and urged well meaning individuals and artists to take a clue from C-Unit.

After the audition, contestant number twenty, Oluchi Odika emerged the winner while contestant number, one hundred and sixty two, Petite Love-Day came second as contestant number fifteen, Kimberly Stephen came third.

# For a token of N2,000, residents of Anambra and beyond can win gift items such as a Toyota Corolla Car, shuttle bus, Keke Napep, 3 motorcycles, 10 Laptops, and 2 million naira cash, under the Golden Dip Empowerment Raffle Draw, which comes up from the 4th of July to the 26th of September, 2025.

The raffle draw, done in partnership with the Anambra Broadcasting Service and licensed by the Anambra Gaming Board, will also see participants win consolation prizes such as bags of rice, cartons of noodles, cartons of tin tomatoes, and gallons of vegetable oil.

The ticket will be made available at all the major parks, markets, bars and other outlets across the state for ease of collection, and there are provisions for online registration, while the draws will be on 4th August for the first draw, 29th August for the second draw and the final draw will be on the 26th of September, 2025.

Speaking at a press conference in Awka to officially launch the raffle draw, Dr Nnamdi Okechukwu, the Managing Director of SeaDavids Services Limited, organizers of the draw, explained that the initiative is no gambling, assuring that the process has been designed to ensure credibility and transparency.

# The Center for Media and Society Nigeria (CEMESO) has taken a significant step towards fostering media collaboration with the Anambra Broadcasting Service (ABS) Onitsha, with the aim of engaging the station’s staff and exploring areas of mutual cooperation in covering electoral process in Nigeria.

During the visit, the CEMESO’s Executive Director, Dr. Akin Akingbulu, emphasized the importance of empowering the media to deliver fair, accurate, credible, and professional coverage of Nigeria’s electoral and democratic governance processes, noted that the visit was also an opportunity to engage with media professionals and assess the operational environment for broadcasting in Anambra State, with a view to addressing challenges and enhancing democratic media coverage.

Also speaking, the CEMESO Programme Manager, Mr. Timothy Bamidele, highlighted the importance of engaging key media stakeholders to identify gaps in media coverage, especially in areas such as civic and voter education, inclusion of women, youth, and vulnerable groups in governance as well as the fight against misinformation through fact-checking.

In her response, the Head of ABS Onitsha Station, Mrs. Ifeoma Udechukwu, thanked the CEMESO team for choosing the station as a platform for collaboration, and assured them of commitment to working closely with them to ensure accurate and impactful information dissemination.

# The Chairman of Njikoka Local Government Area Barr. Chinedu Ononiba, has officially commissioned a newly constructed six-room water system toilet facility at Ozalla Primary School, Abagana.

The school, which previously lost its sanitary infrastructure to a fire incident, had been without functional toilet and water facilities for an extended period—forcing pupils and staff to endure unhealthy and unsafe conditions.

Recognizing the urgent need, the local government swiftly intervened by constructing a modern, water-flushed toilet block to restore dignity, hygiene, and safety to the school environment.

In his remark before Commissioning the project, Ononiba reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to prioritizing education and health, especially in primary schools.

The Mayor also praised Governor Chukwuma Soludo for setting the pace in educational transformation across the state.

# Following a two-day training for journalists on inclusive electoral reporting, TAF Africa has continued its Able2Votecampaign in Anambra State with a stakeholders’ engagement meeting involving security agencies.

The session, held in Awka, brought together representatives from the Police, Civil Defence, and other security bodies alongside disability rights advocates, electoral officials, and media, focused on strengthening collaboration between law enforcement and the disability community to ensure safe, inclusive, and accessible elections for persons with disabilities (PWDs) ahead of the 2025 Anambra governorship poll.

In the context of the Able2Vote campaign, disability-inclusive elections means ensuring accessibility at polling units, providing assistive tools, inclusive voter education, and enforcing Section 54 of the Electoral Act, 2022, which guarantees voting rights for PWDs.

TAF Africa’s Communication Officer , Lynn Agwuncha, said the organization is committed to working with state and non-state actors to advocate for the rights and dignity of PWDs by fostering inclusion and empowerment through policy, legislation, and education while calling for stronger partnerships between security institutions and stakeholders to prevent voter suppression and urged security agents to recognize and respond to the unique vulnerabilities faced by PWDs during elections.

# Government of Anambra State has embarked on fact finding mission to provide respite and entrench peace in Obosi, Idemili North Local Government Area.

Following the unfortunate incident in the community by operatives of the Special Anti-Touting Squad, SASA, a government delegation, led by Secretary to the State Government, Prof. Solo Chukwulobelu, were part of a town hall meeting with members of the community.

While stating that government has launched investigation into the matter, Chukwulobelu expressed regret and condemned the act, while accepting that the operatives exceeded their boundaries, pointed out that the perpetrators will be brought to book and assured that the operations of SASA will be reorganized, to prevent future occurrences.

The Traditional Ruler of Obosi and State Chairman of the State Traditional Rulers’ Council, Igwe Chidubem Iweka alleged that SASA has been infiltrated, that the bad eggs should be weeded out, just as the Commissioner for Works, Engr. Ifeanyi Okoma, Mayor, Idemili North Local Government Area, Mr. Stanley Nkwoka, President General of Obosi, Barr.

Chimezie Obi, Lady Philo Onwualu, Mrs Chuke Stella and Chief Alex Omezie stated that the community have a good working relationship with Governor Soludo’s administration and variously urged the state government to ban SASA operations in Obosi.

# The Acting President-General of Nteje Development Union in Oyi Local Government Area of Anambra State (NDU) Elder Augustine Modika says he would have been a dead person if he was at home on 20th June this year when daredevil gunmen invaded his house at Achalla-Uno Nteje around 12 midnight.

Elder Augustine Modika who spoke to newsmen in his compound along side his elder brother Nnamdi Modika, said an attempt was made on his life by those who do not want peace to reign in Nteje community.

Modika said three persons were kidnapped on the same night gunmen jumped over the fence of his compound, broke into his house, stole his money and other valuable items worth millions of naira.

He said most worrisome is the way and manner in which Nteje Police Division is handling the invasion of his compound by armed hoodlums as he clearly pointed out that the DPO’s apparent reluctance and docility is not helping further investigations.

# The Anambra Commissioner for Culture, Entertainment, and Tourism, Mr. Don Onyenji has emphasized that the state government plans to establish a creative hub where individuals can gather to commit themselves to their craft, fostering a robust creative industry.

Onyenji highlighted that Governor Chukwuma Soludo’s manifesto includes mainstreaming Anambra on a global stage, with a strong commitment to promoting the creative industry, which encompasses the arts.

Commissioner Onyenji made these remarks during a courtesy visit from Godwin Chika Nedum, a Guinness World Record participant for the longest painting marathon and an indigene of Umuokpu-Awka.
