# The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) Anambra State Command has vowed to remain steadfast in its commitment to protecting the nation’s critical national, state and local government assets and safeguarding lives, recognizing the pivotal role they play in fostering national cohesion, development, and unity.
The State Commandant of Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps Anambra State Command, Commandant Maku Olatunde, stated this during a one- day stakeholders forum organised by the Anambra State Directorate of National Orientation Agency ( NOA) in Awka, with the theme” Pathway to National Cohesion, Development and Unity”.
The NSCDC State boss who was represented by Superintendent of Corps, Afunanya Nneka, emphasised the need for all Nigerians to work together and be united as one in supporting the efforts of security agencies to promote unity and cohesion in tackling the social vices across the country.
He revealed that NSCDC’s efforts in this regard are guided by its core mandate of protecting critical assets and infrastructure and a deep understanding of the intricate relationship between security,i development and national unity.
# Further updates have emerged on the case of Mr. Chibuike Agina, an Anambra businessman who had earlier accused operatives of the Agụnechemba security outfit (popularly known as Operation Udo Ga-Achi) of abduction, extortion, and forced confession under duress.
This is coming barely one month after the
report and videos on the incident first trended on social media, exposing how the security operatives allegedly took the Ekwulobia-born business man into bush and extorted a huge amount of money from him by compelling him to transfer money from his bank app to an unknown POS account.
Chibuike, in the video also recounted how the security operatives forced him to confess on video (under duress) that he’s a thief and would never steal again, before eventually released him and also threatened him to tell anyone what he passed through.
However, fresh details shared over the weekend by human rights advocate, Mr. Harrison Gwamnishu, indicate that a whopping sum of ₦1.83 million, allegedly extorted from the victim, has been recovered from the said security outfit, Operation Udo Ga-Achị.
# The Joint Security Team attached to the Awada Police Station and Anambra Vigilante Operatives on patrol along Jude Onyekwere Street, Awada, Obosi on Sunday 6th July 2025, arrested a male suspect, Samuel Eze aged 25 years with a woman’s breast.
The private part was recovered immediately and deposited at the morgue for preservation, while the suspect is undergoing Police interrogations for necessary investigative actions and prosecution.
# As the 2025 Anambra State gubernatorial election draws nearer, the Academic Frontiers Initiative (AFI) has thrown its weight behind the re-election bid of Governor Prof. Chukwuma Charles Soludo, calling on staff and students of tertiary institutions across the state to rally support for what it described as the “Project Consolidation in Solution.”
In a statement signed by the National President of AFI, Prof. Chinedu Onyeizugbe and Secretary, Mr. Tevin Anyali, the organization reiterated its mission of promoting good governance and civic accountability throughout Nigeria.

# The All Progress Congress (APC) Governorship Candidate in the forthcoming Anambra State Governorship Election Contest, Prince Nicholas Ukachukwu, has stated that his aspiration to lead the state as a Governor is inspired by the overriding need to physically and spiritually reset the state, which he has the zeal, determination, and fully qualified for.
Prince Ukachukwu explained that as an anointed man of God, vastly exposed in the diverse aspects of life, and born, brought up and well grounded in what the ‘Anambra-spirit’ is all about, he has all it would take, more than any other person in the contest, to pilot the affairs of the state at this crucial point in time.

The National Leader and Convener of the Group, Chief Valentine Ezeuchegbu disclosed this in an exclusive interview with newsmen.
Ezeuchegbu noted that the Soludo’s administration has delivered to Ndi Anambra dividends of democracy driven by an exceptional youths empowerment skills programs.
# The Commissioner of Police Anambra State, CP. Ikioye Orutugu has ordered a clampdown on any unlawful gathering in the State.
The CP urges Proprietors of hotels and bars or any related places to refuse hosting of such gatherings in their facility.
This follows the security intelligence-led policing and community information that suggests that the Neo-Black Movement of Africa may use today 7th of July 2025 to execute plans that could lead to serious public disorder, including cult initiations and reprisals against rival cult groups in the State.
The CP noted that these criminal activities happen within student-populated areas, and stepped up the security deployment with the School Protection Squad directing the Operatives of the Command to be on the offensive.
He also urged hoteliers, lounge owners, and operators of studio apartments, to refuse their facilities for hosting any gatherings associated with cult groups or any related activities. The Security deployment also involves covert operations with Operatives at the Motor/Keke parks and identified spots to nip in the bud any untoward situation.
# Nigerian journalist and media executive, Tim Elombah, has been arrested by operatives of the Nigeria Police Force in Awka, Anambra State.
Mr. Elombah, affiliated with Diaspora Digital Media (DDM)—an online television network operated by Nigerians in the diaspora—was reportedly picked up from his residence in Awka.
