# The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) Anambra State, Mrs. Elizabeth Agwu, says they are ready for the August 16 Senatorial bye-election and November 8th 2025 governorship election.
Agwu maintained that the Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise beginning on July 8th was strictly for governorship election and not for the senatorial bye-election.
According to Agwu, the CVR will commence on July 17, adding that it would run from 9:00am to 3.00pm daily.
She urged eligible voters in the state to come out en masse to register afresh or make necessary corrections to their biodata.
# The Deputy Governorship candidate of the Young Progressive Party, (YPP), Uzu Okagbue says Anambra State cannot attain development while running an eight hour economy.
Okagbue while speaking recently, maintained that the biggest threat to the hope of development in Anambra is insecurity
Reiterating his position, the YPP Deputy Governorship candidate said that the world has swiftly moved to a 24-hour economy which is why payment systems now run all day, nonstop, so that business operations are not interrupted by artificial roadblocks.
Explaining further, Okagbue regretted that people can no longer start their days early enough and can also no longer retire late because of the fear of the unknown.
# Leadership of Hausa community under the umbrella of Northern Community Leaders (NCL), in Anambra State, has denied working against governor Chukwuma Charles Soludo’s reelection bid ahead of the November 8, 2025 governorship election in the state.
They argue that a publication currently making the round that the ‘The Hausa community in Anambra State has rejects Soludo for Action Alliance AA guber candidate, Ozo Jeff Nweke”, was a plot to scattered the already built relationship, the community has solidified with the present administration.
The leadership accused those behind the publication as people working against the unity, peace, togetherness and progress of non-indigenes in Anambra state.
The denial is contained in a statement jointly signed by Sarkin Fulani Awka, Alahaji Gidado Siddiki, Sarkin Hausawa Awka, Alhaji Garba Haruna, the Chairman Alh Iliyasu yushau Sarki Hausawa Onitsha, and Salisu Mohammed Nnewi respectively and made available to Journalists.
# Speaker of Anambra State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Somtochukwu Udeze has urged eligible residents of the State to come out in large numbers to register or update their details.
In a Press statement, Rt. Hon. Udeze noted that the voter registration exercise which ends on 17th July is a veritable opportunity for eligible voters in the 326 electoral wards in the State to obtain their rightful tickets to participate in November 8, 2025 Anambra Governorship election, which he described as an election to consolidate, appreciate and empower Governor Chukwuma Soludo for more exploits in the State.
The Speaker who called on the State lawmakers to embark on intensive sensitization and mobilization of eligible voters in their various constituencies for the continuous voter registration exercise, enjoined his Ogbaru two constituents who do not have voter cards but are eligible to vote, to ensure that they make good use of this opportunity offered by the INEC to obtain their voter cards.
# The General Manager of Anambra State Solid Minerals Development Company Limited (ASSMDCL) Mr. Ebuka Ujubuonu has task newly employed geologists and IT students on productivity.
Mr. Ujubuonu while speaking during the two days training programme, noted that the training served as a means of achieving the mission of ASSMDCL by engaging them in field mappings and data gatherings.
The General Manager said that all these were also enshrined in the vision of the Anambra State Government of skill acquisition programmes and Human Resource Development.
# Police Operatives attached to the Rapid Response Squad (RRS) Awkuzu have arrested a male suspect, Mr. Chukwujekwu Micheal Okoye a.k.a Bus-Stop, aged 25 years old.
The arrest is a follow-up to the disturbing incident at Oko which records the injury to two persons, murder of two persons and abduction of two others who were later released after ransom was paid early last month at the Total Junction and Tipper Junction respectively all in Oko, Orumba North Local Government Area.
Anambra Police Spokesperson, SP. Tochukwu Ikenga, in a press release, stated that the Operatives also recovered one automatic pump-action gun and two handsets.
“He confessed to being an active member of the Aye Confraternity Cult group and currently holding a position as a Lord. He also stated how they have perfected plans for the initiation ceremony and rivalry cult attack yesterday 7th July 2025 and revealed details of how him and six (6) other gang members attacked Oko on the 19th of June 2025.
“Given the information provided by the suspect, the Operatives have activated plans for the arrest of other gang members aimed at dismantling the criminal network in the State”. Ikenga stated.
# The gubernatorial candidate of the All Progressive Congress, APC, for November 8 election in Anambra State, Prince Nicholas Ukachukwu has outlined measures to combat crime and incessant killings tearing Anambra State apart.
Prince Ukachukwu who stated this during his thank you tours to Anaocha, Aguata, Onitsha North and South Local Government Areas noted that the situation in which Ndi Anambra found themselves is miserable, stating that the level of intimidations, kidnapping and other ills in the state are in sharp contrast with its sobriquet as the light of the nation.
He noted that the APC faithful trusts in their integrity and capacity to deliver the developmental projects needed by the state and promised thar if elected, he will strengthen traditional institution in a way that they will exercise their rights independently.
Welcoming the Ikukuoma Campaign Team to Anaocha Local Government Area, the deputy governorship candidate, Senator Uche Ekwunife informed Ndi Anambra that the “messiah” has come to salvage them from all bondages, high handedness and other acts tearing them apart.
She reminded of her antecedents when she was in the Senate and told them that if they vote massively for APC, they will witness tremendous change and development.
# In a decisive and intelligence-led operation, the Zonal Intelligence Department (ZID) of the Nigeria Police, Zone-13 Command, Ukpo has smashed a deadly child-stealing and trafficking syndicate operating across southeastern Nigeria.
The operation, which took place on June 20, 2025, led to the arrest of eight suspects from different locations.
Among those arrested were Uzoamaka Ani (27), Joy Madu (52), and Victoria Onodu Akasike (56) key players in a sinister network engaged in child theft, human trafficking, illegal adoptions, baby factory activities, and the operation of unlicensed medical centres.
According to a release by CSP. Ihunwo Josephine, Zonal Police Public Relations Officer, Zone-13 Headquarters, Ukpo,
during intense interrogation, the suspects reportedly confessed to multiple criminal acts, including conspiracy, abduction, sale of infants, abuse of vulnerable persons, and running baby factories for financial gain.
