# The Chairman of Njikoka LGA, Barr. Chinedu Ononiba, has inaugurated the Finance and Management Team of the Agunechemba Security Architecture in Nawfia and Enugwu-Ukwu.
The Mayor in his address at the event, commended Nawfia’s leadership for proactively addressing security concerns and urged the newly inaugurated team to execute their responsibilities with integrity, accountability, and diligence.
Hon. Ononiba emphasized the importance of vigilance and ethical conduct in their operations and lauded the collaborative efforts of the police, DSS, FRSC, and other security agencies in maintaining safety in the area.
The Local Government boss called for continued support to ensure a secure and prosperous Nawfia and Njikoka at large.
# All is now set for the second session of the 6th synod of Anglican Diocese of Amichi.
The synod which will hold at Immanuel Anglican Church Akwaihedi, Nnewi South council area, will commence on Thursday 19th to end on Sunday 22nd June 2025, with the theme “Heathen in church uniform: urgent call for reevangelisation and proper discipleship of the church”.
During the synod, the Bishop of the diocese Rt. Rev. Ephraim Ikeakor will give score card of activities in the diocese within the synod year.
Speaking during a press briefing after inspection of the synod venue in company of the clergy and the synod planning committee members, Bishop Ikeakor listed some of the activities of the diocese within the synod year to include building of new Episcopal and guest houses, acquiring of 49 to 51 plots of land for building of college of education to assist in raising the standard of teaching and education system in Nigeria, nagociatiin of 20 plots of land for building of a befitting chapel for the college of Nursing Sciences and the hospital community, scholarships to give the young people a future, to mention but a few.
# Anambra State House of Assembly Speaker, Rt. Hon. Somtochukwu Udeze says thirty one (31) bills and seventy two (72) resolutions has been passed in two years.
Speaking in a press briefing on Wednesday in his office ahead of the two years anniversary of the 8th Assembly, Udeze described the legislative agenda as people-oriented aimed at enacting laws that create meaningful impact across the state.
Rt. Hon. Udeze highlighted landmark legislations such as the Local Government Administration Law which, despite initial criticisms, has been adopted by some states and the Homeland Security Law, which has contributed to the state’s fight against crime.
The Speaker said the Assembly also looked into the Electricity Bill and Anambra State Development and Investment Corporation Law, which would make it difficult for any future administration to derail the state’s investment priorities.
# The leading contestant in the upcoming Anambra South Senatorial district by-election, Chief. Akai Egwuonwu has hosted “The Solution Witness Support Group.”
Leader of the group and Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Youth Mobilization, Hon. Valentine Ezeuchegbu said the courtesy visit was to give words of encouragement to Chief Egwuonwu, in his pursuit to ensure quality representation of the Senatorial district in the National Assembly.
According to the group’s leader, the group had taken its time to study all the aspirants for the by-election and found Chief Egwuonwu outstanding among the lot.
In his response, Chief Akai Egwuonwu renewed his promise to ensure that the Senatorial district gets its fair share of the national cake when elected.
# As part of efforts to ensure a peaceful Democracy Day celebration and prevent vandalism of Critical National State and Local Government Assets, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) Anambra State Command has mobilized and deployed 750 personnel across the state.
Commandant Maku Olatunde, the NSCDC Anambra State Commandant disclosed that on Wednesday June 11, 2025 at the State Command Headquarters Awka.
According to him, the deployment which covers all the 21 Local Government Areas of the state included specialized units such as Tactical Squads, Anti-Vandalism Squad, Female Special Forces, and Counter Terrorism Squad, strategically positioned in government buildings, public utilities, transportation hubs, telecommunication facilities, electricity infrastructures, high-risk areas, areas prone to violence, blackspots and other vulnerable points.
# The lawmaker representing Ayamelum state constituency in the House of Assembly of Anambra State Hon. Bernard Udemezue says Ayamelum has been poorly represented in the state assembly for more than 12 years, leaving the constituency with no semblance of governmental representation in the legislature.
Udemezue who is also the House of Assembly Committee Chairman on Homeland Security, said his predecessors underdeveloped Ayamelum because they only went to the House of Assembly to represent their personal interests to the detriment of the overall interest of the people.
Udemezue who spoke about his two years anniversary in the 8th assembly, said that the people of Ayamelum has felt what he described as direct representation in which their views have been represented, pointing out that what has happened over time was that elected representatives represented their personal interests thereby saying what they wanted and not what the people wanted.
# Anambra Commissioner for Health
Dr. Afam Obidike has prohibited Individuals and Corporate bodies in the state from conducting medical outreaches without prior approval from Ministry of Health.
Dr. Obidike stated this in a statement made available to newsmen in Awka, titled “Attention: General Public, Communities, NGOs Faith-Based Organizations, Public and Private Health Facility Owners among others”.
The Commissioner noted that the move will ensure patient safety, outreach aligns with best practices, and upholds public health standards in Anambra State.
While analysing why approval from the Ministry of Health before every medical outreach should be conducted, Dr. Obidike said it is for protecting public Health which in turn would prevent harm from unsafe procedures, counterfeit medications, or poor infection control.
# Anambra State Government has decried the quantity of pornography and propaganda available in various social media spaces.
The state’s Commissioner for Information, Dr Law Mefor, while speaking at the closing ceremony of a two-day Media and Information Literacy (MIL) Workshop for youth and youth-led organisations in South East Nigeria, at Nnamdi Azikiwe University Auditorium, organised by Media and Information and Inter-cultural Dialogue (MILID) Foundation in collaboration with UNESCO and Anambra State Ministry of Information, among others, observed that the quantity of sexuality in social media skits is alarming, and nothing short of pornography.
He stated that pornography is redefining so much of the social media information being consumed by the people in various social media spaces thereby showcasing the kind of irresponsibility inherent in the people creating such contents.
He advised content creators, particularly youths to eschew the use of pornography in creating contents but to think deeper to generate contents through other societal issues.
# A cross section of Staffers, Faculty of Agriculture, Nnamdi Azikiwe University Awka has praised Prof. Cordelia Ebenebe outgoing Dean of the Faculty for her contributions and exceptional stewardship.
The commendations came during a ceremony held at the Faculty to mark the end of her two year tenure.
A former Dean of the Faculty, Prof. Uchenna Onugwu, joined other staff members in acknowledging her remarkable achievements and dynamism.
