# Anambra State Executive Council (ANSEC) in its 11th meeting which took place at the Light House, Awka, on Monday June 16, 2025, made several important decisions.

According to a press release signed by
Commissioner for Information, Anambra State, Dr. Law Mefor, ANSEC approved
several contracts after reviewing memos presented by various ministries and agencies of the state government.

The Council approved the sum of N2,104,421,881.83 for the construction of access roads within the Nwafor Orizu College of Education, Nsugbe. The contract was awarded to Mid-East Construction Company.

ANSEC approved N3,500,000,000.00 for the reclamation of erosion, flood control, and the construction of a 2.28 km road connecting St. Augustine Community Primary School, Rest Assured Hotel, Community High School, Umunze, and the Umuchu By-pass. The project was awarded to Saidi Nigeria Limited.

# Nri Community in Anaocha Council Area, trooped out en-mass to officially welcome the Deputy Governor aspirant of the All Progressive Congress (APC) Senator Uche Ekwunife.

In her speech Ekwunife, overwhelmed by the honour said it is not her race alone but that of entire Nri even as she stated that political party does not develop anywhere rather personality.

The deputy governorship candidate while highlighting her achievements,
revealed that through her anticidents, she was graciously nominated and cannot move without letting them know of the position.

In his address, APC, governorship candidate for November 2025 Anambra election, Prince Nicholas Ukachukwu while commending the endorsement, said whatever one do in life speaks for him or her.

Ukachukwu described Ekwunife as a
wonderful and the best candidate to work with telling ndi Nri that more are yet to come their way as they are people who have integrity and eyes for good things of life that would better the lots of everyone.

# Anambra Police Operatives acting on intelligence-driven information foiled a cult initiation ceremony at Nawfia, Njikoka Local Government Area.

During the raid, the team arrested six suspects and recovered one Jojef pump action gun, two live cartridges, one golden coloured Lexus SUV with Reg No: ATN 202 AE, two cutlasses, two scissors, one cap with inscription of the Supreme Vikings confraternity, some charms, hard substance and other incriminating items.

According to Anambra Police Spokesperson SP. Tochukwu Ikenga, the arrested suspects include: Nwadike Chibuike, Anierobi Precious, Raphael Ebube, Ezechi Benjamin, Okafor Chidera, and Chiema Okoye, all males between 20 and 30 years old.

“They are currently undergoing Police interrogation to get more insight into their modus operandi, after which the Case will be charged to Court on the conclusion of the investigations. Ikenga stated.

# The Executive Chairman of Nnewi South Local Government Area, Hon. Van George Ezeogidi has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to driving grassroots development through people’s oriented projects and initiatives.

Hon. Ezeogidi gave the assurance over the weekend during the commissioning of some key community-based projects in Ebenator Community.

The commissioned projects include 30 open market stalls at Orienwankwọ Market, a 7.5kw lithium-powered solar system for the Ebenator Primary Health Centre, rehabilitated a solar-powered borehole at the Ebenator Civic Centre, and another at the market. These, it was gathered, were all executed in alignment with the “Community Choose Your Project” initiative, a participatory development strategy championed by the Governor of Anambra State, Prof. Charles Chukwuma Soludo.

Speaking on the development, Hon. Ezeogidi explained that the completed projects were not only tailored to meet specific community needs, but also directly aligned with Governor Soludo’s vision of creating a livable, prosperous secure, and people-centered Anambra.

# Anambra State Executive Council (ANSEC) in its 11th meeting approved N2,653,275,980.74 for the construction of 3.9 km of access roads within the Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University, Uli Campus. The contract was awarded to Anyi Supreme Industries Ltd.

ANSEC approved N528,622,393.14 to complete the ongoing construction of a Country Club at the Ekwulobia Stadium Complex. The contract was awarded to Crystal Dove Construction Company Ltd.

A total of N97,310,537.00 was approved for the Anambra Road Maintenance Agency (ARMA) for the rehabilitation of Nya Ranch Road, located beside the Old Government House in Awka.

# Arrangements have been concluded to honour the departed members of the Association of People Living with Sickle Cell Disorder, (APLSD), in Anambra State, to mark the 2025 World Sickle Cell Day in the state.

The annual event will be held at Sickle Cell Orphanage and Underprivileged Home, Agulu in Anaocha LGA, Anambra State.

The National Coordinator, APLSD, Mrs Aisha Edward Maduagwu, disclosed this in a release issued to the press in Awka.

According to the release, the agenda of the event, which will take place on Thursday 19th June, will centre on the commendable economic support received from the Anambra State government towards improving the lives of indigent and vulnerable sickle cell persons.

# The Anambra State Specialist Eye Centre in Nise, Awka South LGA, has recorded a remarkable increase in patient turnout, following a series of interventions by Governor Chukwuma Soludo’s administration.

Commissioned in March 2023, the centre has reportedly seen over a 300 percent rise in visitation and service utilization, owing to enhanced facilities and power supply. The centre now operates on a 30 kVA solar energy system, ensuring uninterrupted service delivery.

According to the head of the eye centre, Dr. Ifeanyi Obi, the specialist facility provides affordable and advanced eye care to residents, many of whom previously lacked access to such services. He described the project as “a beacon of hope” for individuals facing avoidable visual impairment.

N65,681,358.34 for additional works on the Specialist Hospital in Fegge, Onitsha South. This contract was awarded to Crystal Dove Construction Company Ltd.

ANSEC approved N55,176,294.00 for the Anambra Road Traffic Management Agency (ARTMA) to install road signs, rumble strips, flashing caution lights, and thermoplastic speed bumps at selected locations across the state. This contract was awarded to Vadakris Ltd.

For the reconstruction and renovation of dilapidated building blocks at Nwafor Orizu College of Education, Nsugbe (Lots 1, 2, and 3), the Council approved a total of N718,681,767.01 for the following companies: Biggstruct Engineering Ltd – N263,783,725.00. Zonel Projects Ltd N222,911,408.05 and Euro Energy Resources N208,511,232.62

“The council reiterated its intention to start the Anambra Rebirth Programme, a project aimed at changing behaviours to restore the Igbo values of integrity and hard work, to be based on the Igbo saying: “Aka aja aja na-ebute onu mmanụ mmanụ,” meaning that happiness and success are based on hard work.

“More public schools that had not received enough attention would now receive it following the Soludo administration’s clearing of inherited counterpart financing arrears up to 2024, and the expected Federal Government counterpart contribution.

“Council also plans to train and retrain drivers in the state and thereafter, place drivers who commit major traffic violations on a blacklist’.

# The Director National Orientation Agency Anambra State Directorate, Mr Edozie Ajaegbu has urged residents of the state to visit government health facilities and take diphtheria vaccination to prevent the spread of the contagious disease.

Mr Ajaegbu who made the call while briefing journalists in Awka on the outbreak of the ailment in Imo State in May 2025, described it as a life threatening bacteria that affects the throat, nose, skin and can cause difficulty in breathing, heart failure and death if left untreated .

He disclosed that the disease spreads through respiratory droplets when an infected person coughs or sneezes, direct contacts with open sores or contaminated objects, saying that sore throat, difficulty in breathing, swollen neck, fever and chills are the symptoms of the disease.

Mr Ajaegbu pointed out that those at risk are unvaccinated children between the ages of five to eighteen years and adults as well as people living in crowded and unhygienic environments, calling on parents to vaccinate their children against the disease in government health facilities to prevent the spread of the infection.
