# Anambra Commissioner of Police, CP Ikioye Orutugu has visited Police Mobile Force 29 Squadron, Amansea, Awka, to condole the family members and Officers and men of the Squadron over the sad incident of the loss of Inspector Okolie Amechi and bullet injury to one of his sons.
The CP during the visit described the Police Mobile Force as his Alma mater and reminded the Officers of the importance of adhering to Police Operational Protocol, especially in their line of duty.
Orutugu emphasized the need for teamwork and encouraged the personnel to remain focused and dedicated to their duties, despite the loss.
Responding on behalf of the officers of the Squadron, the Commander, Assistant Commissioner of Police, ACP Nasiru Adamu Kaila expressed gratitude to the CP for visiting the Base and showing empathy towards the officers, especially at this moment of grief.
# The Acting Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Carol Arinze-Umobi, has toured the pre-degree study centre to assess facilities at the center.
During the visit, Arinze-Umobi inspected some facilities including the student’s hostels and classrooms and promised to address issues, as this aligns with her administration’s goal of “Feeling the Pulse of Staff and Students.”
# Governor Chukwuma Soludo has called for collective efforts in ensuring road safety across the state, assuring that his administration will continue to partner with the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) to reduce road crashes.
Soludo made this known at the Light House Awka, through his Deputy, Dr. Onyekachukwu Ibezim, during a courtesy visit by the Anambra State Federal Road Safety Corps, (FRSC) team led by the Sector Commander, Mrs. Joyce Alexander.
The Governor expressed concern over the widespread ignorance of road signs among motorists and other road users, stressing that many road users neither understand nor obey traffic signs, an issue he identified as a major contributor to road accidents.
Speaking, Alexander, explained that the visit was aimed at encouraging the Anambra State Government to fully embrace the State Road Safety Advisory Council (SaRSAC), an extension of the National Road Safety Advisory Council (NaRSAC), which is designed to align state road safety goals with the national strategy, ensure that road infrastructure meets global safety standards, and promote safe system approach to eliminate crashes.
# A wave of excitement swept through Nnewi South as St. Johnbosco Unubi dazzled their way to glory, clinching the top prize of one million naira at the highly anticipated C-Unit Charity Football Tournament.
The thrilling final match ended 1–0 in favour of St. Johnbosco Unubi, securing them the championship title and the one million naira cash prize.
Community Secondary School, Ukpor, emerged second and received six hundred thousand naira, while Community Secondary School, Osumeyi, claimed third place with a three hundred thousand naira reward.
The event was graced by the hosts of the tournament, Messrs Onyebuchi and Onyedikachi Ike, popularly known as C-Unit, as well as the Executive Chairman of Nnewi South Local Government Area, Honourable Van-George Ezeogidi, his deputy, Honourable Nneka Ireka, and a prominent political figure from Nnewi North LGA, Prince Austin Onyekaba.
# The Anambra state Commissioner of Police, CP. Ikeoye Orutugu has celebrated children of police officers and commended them for their academic performances despite societal limitations.
Orutugu made the commendation during an event organised by the Anambra state police command and the Police Officers Wives Association, POWA in Amawbia, to celebrate the 2025 Children’s Day as they were unable to mark the day with their parents and guardian on the National Children’s Day on May 27 due to the nature of their jobs.
While appreciating the spouses of the police officers for their contributions to the growth of their families, Orutugu enjoined the children to be of good behaviour, prayed for the command and their parents to continue to provide and instill good morals in them.
# The Chairman of Njikoka LGA, Barr. Chinedu Ononiba, has officially received 237 tins of Albendazole 400mg tablets for distribution across all 18 wards in the LGA.
The tablets were formally presented by Hon. Afoma Okpala, the Supervisor Councillor for Health.
In her speech, Hon. Okpala said while the Anambra State Government, under the leadership of Governor Chukwuma Soludo supplied Vitamin A to support the health needs of Ndi Njikoka, the Albendazole tablets were personally procured by Barr. Ononiba as part of his proactive commitment to child healthcare I’m Njikoka.
During the handover, the Mayor expressed profound appreciation to Governor Soludo for his remarkable transformation of the health sector in Anambra State.
Ononiba affirmed that Njikoka would continue to key into all government-led developmental projects, particularly those targeted at the grassroots.
# The President of National Association of Nigeria Students (NANS) Comrade Olushola Oladoja has endorsed Governor Chukwuma Soludo for second term.
Comrade Oladoja who made the endorsement after touring Solution Fun City in Awka, said the endorsement was due to the outstanding achievements of Soludo in Anambra State.
Oladoja commended Soludo for transforming Anambra into a tourism and entertainment club with such gigantic project.
In his remark, the Managing Director, Awka Capital Territory Development Authority, Mr. Osy Onuko who took Comrade Oladoja and his team round the projects noted that Governor Soludo has justified the mandate given to him by the people of Anambra State with spectacular performance as every community in the state has felt the impact of his good governance.
# The Trans-Nkisi Boulevard 1 Road Onitsha is now wearing a new look with the ongoing construction of the road awarded by Governor Chukwuma Soludo.
The one point six three zero kilometre road is a dual carriageway.
Men of the construction site handling the project were seen carrying out earth work towards the end of the road.
Speaking to the newsmen, the Project Manager, Engineer Chudi Okudo said that they have done asphalt from point zero zero to six hundred metres and has also laid stone base up to one point five metres while earth work is presently on going on six hundred metres.
Engineer Okudo maintained that they have completed drainage construction on both sides of the road from beginning to the end and expressed optimism that they will complete the work by the end of this month.
# Anambra State House of Assembly Committee on Petroleum and Mineral Resources has expressed deep concern over the negative impacts of illegal mining activities in parts of Aguleri
The Committee led by its chairman Hon. Chidiebele Ibemeka, during its oversight,
decried the environmental degradation, particularly coastal erosion and severe road damage, caused by unchecked sand mining operations in the area.
The lawmakers observed that the operators at both sites have failed to fulfill their corporate social responsibility obligations to the host communities, despite the extensive exploitation of local resources.
Worried by the deteriorating environmental conditions and the lack of regulatory compliance, the lawmakers said immediate actions will be taken to safeguard the lives and properties of residents.
