# Operatives of the Anambra State Police have recovered a lifeless body of Mr. Ozor Augustine Chido, an alleged kidnapped victim in Nimo Community, Njikoka Local Government Area.
The Command has also stepped up efforts to arrest the suspects behind this heinous crime.
Spokesperson of Anambra Police Command, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, in a press statement stated that the victim was allegedly abducted in the morning of 19th June 2025 at his piggery farm in Nimo.
“The Operatives were still actively involved to rescue the victim but unfortunately, his lifeless body was discovered on 23rd June, 2025, near his farm in Nimo.
“Meanwhile, the body of the victim has been deposited at the morgue.
“The Command sympathizes with the victim’s family and the community and assures that it shall leave no stone unturned in unmasking the suspects behind the dastardly act”. Ikenga stated.
# Anambra State Correspondents Chapel has rendered unconditional apology to the State Executive Council (SEC) of Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) led by Comrade Odogwu Emeka Odogwu, PhD.

expressed regret over what it described as some actions it took which led to its breakaway from the State Council during the period of the crisis.
The Chapel apologized for bringing the integrity of Dr Odogwu to disrepute by some of its actions and pledged to henceforth work harmoniously with the Anambra Council SEC for the good of the Union.
The apology letter followed a peace meeting brokered between the warring parties by the matriarch of the Union, Prof Chinyere Okunna, along with some stakeholders of the Council like a former Chairman of the Council, Mr Victor Agusiobo; and Editor-in-Chief of Fides Newspaper, Mr Jude Atupulazi.
# As the second phase of the 2025 National Immunization Plus Days (NIPDs) campaign draws near, Ward Development Chairmen (WDCs) in Awka South Local Government Area have been tasked with intensifying grassroots mobilization and community sensitization to ensure full participation.
During a stakeholders’ engagement forum held at the Maternal and Child Health (MCH) Centre in Amawbia, Mrs. Ifeoma Igbojekwe, the Social Mobilization Officer (SMO), underscored the pivotal role of WDCs in achieving campaign success. She cited past experiences where collaboration with ward leaders significantly boosted vaccination coverage.
Igbojekwe added that Awka, being central to the campaign, must lead by example in ensuring that every eligible child receives the oral polio vaccine.
The second phase of the immunization drive is scheduled to run across all wards in Awka South from June 28, 2025.

# The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Anambra State has announced its decision to adopt a grassroots-focused strategy for the upcoming November 8, 2025, governorship election.
Speaking at the party’s state Secretariat, the APC governorship candidate, Evangelist Nicholas Ukachukwu, who inaugurated 52 grassroots support groups drawn from the 21 Local Government Areas of the state revealed the party’s strategy.
According to him,the party’s campaign will be rooted in community-level engagement and voter mobilization.
# The Anambra State Commissioner for Youth Development, Hon. Patrick Agha Mba, has clarified that the fund from the state government’s flagship youth empowerment programme — One Youth, Two Skills Plus (1Youth2Skills Plus) — is not for settling family problems, but strictly for business set-up and development.
Commissioner Agha Mba made the clarification while reacting to what he described as a “misleading, hysterical, and incendiary open letter” authored by one Mr. Nwakanwa Okoye, who accused the state government of insincerity in the implementation of its flagship youth empowerment programme, One Youth, Two Skills Plus (1Youth2Skills Plus).
Recall that Mr. Okoye had, over the week, authored and begun circulating a social media piece titled “Betrayal in Broad Daylight: When Empowerment Becomes a Political Scam and Silence Turns to Criminal Negligence”, in which he laid several allegations against the operation of the One Youth, Two Skills program, accusing the state government of “criminal negligence” toward the participants in the second phase of the program, whom he claimed had graduated.
# The Anambra State Solution Fun City, built by Governor Chukwuma Soludo has been registered to operate as an independent entity for the purpose of generating funds for the state.
The project, which was commissioned by President Bola Tinubu during his visit to the state, will be officially opened to the public on Saturday, June 28, 2025.
It contains, among other things, a country club, family fun center, cinemas, game center for children, halls, six swimming pools and an amusement park that has a lot of rides.
# The Nnamdi Azikiwe University (UNIZIK) Chapter of the Congress of University Academics (CONUA) has forwarded a petition to the Acting Vice-Chancellor of the institution, Professor Carol Arinze-Umobi, demanding the inclusion of its members in the payment of the Earned Academic Allowance (EAA) paid by the Federal Government.
A letter by its counsel, Professor Okechukwu Nwankwo, dated 23rd June, and sent to the Acting Vice-Chancellor and copied to the Bursar of the University, warned that the leadership of CONUA–UNIZIK would not hesitate to pursue legal redress to ensure that its members are not discriminated against in the payment of EAA to academics of the University.
The letter, instituted on behalf of the Chairman of CONUA UNIZIK Chapter, Professor Chigozie Ezeonyejiaku, and its Secretary, Professor Isaac Nwankwo, stated: “There exist three government-recognised academic associations in Nigerian university institutions, namely: the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), Congress of University Academics (CONUA), and National Association of Medical and Dental Academics (NAMDA). A university lecturer is free to be a member of any of them or none at all.”
# The Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu has commended the Anambra State governor, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo, for the remarkable improvement in the security situation across the state.
Yakubu made this known during his opening remarks at the second quarterly consultative meeting with political parties held at the INEC Conference Room, Abuja.
He noted that the prevailing atmosphere in Anambra state is calm and peaceful — a welcome development in the lead-up to the November 8, 2025 governorship election.
# The Managing Director of the Anambra State Rural Water Supply and Sanitation Agency (ANARUWASSA), Mr. Tochukwu Nwosu, has reaffirmed the state’s commitment to achieving open defecation-free status by 2027.
Mr. Nwosu made this known during an advocacy visit to the chairmen of the 21 local government areas of Anambra State to strengthen collaboration on the delivery of Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) services. He explained that the initiative aligns with the Federal Ministry of Water Resources and Sanitation’s national drive to make Nigeria open defecation-free by 2030, as well as with Anambra State Government’s vision of building a model, liveable, and prosperous smart megacity — a true homeland where Ndi Anambra can live, work, invest, learn, relax, and thrive.
According to the ANARUWASSA boss, the attainment of an open defecation-free status requires the collective effort of all stakeholders. He noted that the advocacy visit was intended to engage local governments to join hands in the campaign, sensitize communities on the dangers of open defecation, and promote synergy between the state and LGAs.
