* The Anambra State Commissioner for Women and Social Welfare, Mrs. Ify Obinabo has cleared the air that her ministry is not aware of the activities of one of her member staff, Chinyere Nwofor who was accused of taking a client’s child and property and handing over to her late husband’s relatives.

The briefing came after a series of voice notes and articles that broke the internet alleging that Chinyere Nwofor, a civil servant with the ministry, was the one involved in the incident

Denying the allegation, Mrs Nwofor explained that it is true she took the client to a hotel in Nibo instead of the state office, she had her personal team comprising of a lawyer from FIDA, who judged the case.

On why she never reported the case to the ministry, Mrs Nwofor claimed that it skipped her mind for the past one year and apologized to her boss for the gross misconduct.

* In a highly competitive election, Prof. George Onwudiwe of the Department of Igbo, African, and Communication Studies has emerged as the new Dean of the Faculty.

Prof. Onwudiwe secured 113 votes out of 228 accredited voters, defeating his closest contender, Prof. Chike Okoye, who scored 73 votes. Prof. Elizabeth Ezenweke also participated in the election, scoring 43 votes.

* The Senior Pastor of Dunamis International Gospel Centre, Dr. Paul Enenche, has urged Ndi Anambra to embrace the fear of God, His love and passion above everything else.

Enenche while speaking on the two-day healing and deliverance crusade in Awka, commended the hospitality of ndi Igbo, describing Anambra State as a land deep in strong tradition, honor, respect, and leadership.

While acknowledging the great potential of ndi Anambra, Pastor Eneche said the state is home to some of the most talented and innovative individuals. He expressed optimism that the crusade will bring about a transformation in the state, particularly in cities like Onitsha and Nnewi, which are renowned for their commercial prowess.

He added that God will cause His purpose and plans to explode out of Anambra, believing that hrough the crusade, souls will be saved, lives will be delivered, and Anambra will continue to move forward in every ramification.

* The Acting Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Joseph Ikechebelu, has commissioned three key projects initiated and completed by the outgoing Dean of the Faculty of Arts, Prof. Alvan Okwudiri Ikokwu-Nwamara.

Speaking at the commissioning, Prof. Ikechebelu expressed his delight at the projects and urged other Faculty Deans to make significant contributions within their Faculties.

He also encouraged the incoming Dean to build on these achievements and take the Faculty’s development to greater heights.

* Anambra State has been listed as one of the beneficiaries of the European Investment Bank, EIB’s intervention in addressing the challenges of erosion and land degradation control in Nigeria.

The National Project Coordinator of NEWMAP-EIB, Engineer. Anda Ayuba-Yalaks, made this known when he led the Federal Project Management Unit of the project on a collaborative assessment with the state government for long-term sustainable land degradation control measures and to provide support to the state project management unit to accelerate the project implementation.

The Coordinator added that the delegation has also conducted on- the-spot assessment of uncompleted five selected erosion sites within the state, which are Ndi Agu Ikenga Ogidi, Nkpor Flyover, Ugamuma Obosi, Abagana erosion sites, saying that they will further explore best practices and interventions to mitigate the challenges and applauded the governor for fulfilling his promises to the state citizenry in supporting the project by releasing the counterpart fund for the project.

Speaking, Anambra State Project Coordinator of NEWMAP-EIB, Prof. Philip Phil-Eze said the Federal Government asked them to prioritize five ongoing sites which were uncompleted by the World Bank Assisted project before other new sites could be taken up saying that Governor Soludo sees erosion as a major threat to the people of the state and passionate about tackling it.

* The third edition of Anambra Sports Solution Initiative (ANSSI) 2025, kicks-off March 19th, 2025 and will end June 27, 2025.

The competition will feature eleven sporting events including Athletics, Ncho, Basketball, Chess, Cricket, Football, Scrabble, Swimming, Table Tennis, Taekwando and Volleyball for various age categories like U-12, U-14 and U-18 categories.

This third edition is being organised by Anambra State Sports Development Commission (ANSSDC) in collaboration with the State Ministry of Education and 21 LGAs Chairmen.

About 15,000 participants, including males and females from federal, public, private and mission primary and secondary schools, will participate in the three month sporting events

Chairman, Anambra State Sports Development Commission, Mr. Estate Patrick Onyedum while speaking on Thursday in a press conference, stated that part of the manifesto of Governor Chukwuma Soludo was to develop sports from the grassroots

* DanJud, a fast-growing company which specializes in technology and haulage systems has launched an innovative electronic collection system for haulage fees in Anambra, an initiative that aligns with the digital strategy of Governor Chukwuma Soludo and the Anambra State Internal Revenue Service, AIRS, team.

Aimed to enhance operational efficiency, improve revenue collection and provide a seamless payment experience for taxpayers, the system, officially introduced last week in Awka, is designed to simplify the haulage fee payment process, while ensuring faster and more transparent revenue generation for the state government.

Speaking at the launch, the Chief Operating Officer of DanJud Construction and Technology Limited, Engineer Stanley Osadebe, emphasized the need for modernization in haulage fee collection, highlighting the growing role of technology in the transport sector, and expressed excitement about the e-collection system’s potential to streamline payments, enhance accountability and eliminate inefficiencies.

A cross-section of stakeholders who responded positively to the initiative, including the President of International Building Materials Market, Ogidi, Chief Jude Nwankwo, praised the system for preventing double taxation and urged haulage operators and goods owners to embrace it, just as a haulage truck driver, Isah Azman, commended the platform for its convenience, saying that it allows him to make payments quickly from his phone, eliminating paperwork and the risk of being shortchanged.

* The Commissioner of Police, CP. Ikioye Orutugu has stepped up the Police Safe School Initiative; a proactive approach to ensuring the safety and security of schools, students, teachers and staff in Anambra.

CP. Orutugu during his visits to Schools in the State, commended ndi Anambra and residents alike on the improvement of social and economic activities on Mondays.

In his speech, the CP. noted the negative impacts of the illegal Sit At Home order and how it has disrupted academic activities and stated that the Police and other security agencies have taken over the streets, especially on Mondays, to sustain safety in the State.

The Police boss who was accompanied by the Commissioner of Women Affairs, Hon. Ify Obinabo urged ndi Anambra to go about their various businesses without fear of molestation.

* The Anambra State Executive Council (ANSEC), has approved renovations for the Jerome Udoji State Secretariat building and external works around the complex.

The contract was awarded to Ekam Global Ventures at the sum of N181,194,655.78 (One Hundred and Eighty-One Million, One Hundred and Ninety-Four Thousand, Six Hundred and Fifty Five Naira, Seventy Eight Kobo) and is expected to be completed within the next two (2) months.

Dr. Law Mefor, Commissioner for Information, Anambra State, ANSEC also approved for immediate execution, Lot 6 of the ongoing construction projects at the Judges Quarters in Onitsha for the sum of ₦196,510,928.40 (one hundred and ninety-six million, five hundred and ten thousand, nine hundred and twenty-eight naira, forty kobo) awarded to Hemebs Construction Ltd., and it is to be completed by the next 6 weeks.

* The Head of Local Government Administration in Ekwusigo council area of Anambra State Lolo Obiazi Chinyere has accused the Executive Mayor of Ekwusigo Local Government Hon. Chimezie James Obi of allegedly embezzling and misappropriating local government funds from the comfort of his home.

Obiazi who is a victim of the Chairman’s arbitrary use of power, has petitioned the Anambra State House of Assembly urging the lawmakers to intervene and rescue her from the Chairman’s unending victimizations.

Lolo Obiazi who spoke to newsmen at the state assembly complex about her ordeal shortly after an interface with the House of Assembly Committee handling her case, lamented that she has no money to share but believes she would get justice in the end especially as it concerns her indefinite suspension from duty which she alleged was orchestrated by the Ekwusigo Local Government Chairman through the Local Government Service Commission.
