* The Mayor of Idemili North Local Government Area of Anambra State, Hon. Stanley Nkwoka has Commiserated with the family of the President General of Umuoji Improvement Union of Nigeria (UIUN), Chief Sir Ifeanyi Muoemenam as he buried his Mum, Late Madam Caroline Udafor Mmego Muoemenam (Idiogo Nwanyi) who died at age 84 amidst tributes.
Speaking at Amoji Village Umuoji, Hon Nkwoka prayed God to grant the family of Chief Muoemenam who is also Director General of Hon. Nkwoka Campaign Organisation the fortitude to bear their loss.
The Executive Chairman of Idemili North was accompanied to the funeral ceremony by the Deputy Mayor, Hon Lady Phina Onwuachu, the Chairman of APGA, Idemili North amongst other dignitaries
* The Nzuko Odinani Welfare Association (NOWA), an umbrella body for all ọdịnanị practitioners in Anambra State has assured the state government that it will leave no stone unturned in helping to checkmate and flush out bad eggs among traditional religion/medicine practitioners in the state.
NOWA President General, Nze Ezeafor Onyebuchi Chiukwuemeka Izuegbu and Secretary, General, Nze Dike Ugbaja, giving the assurance during a press briefing at Jerome Udoji Secretariat, Awka, on Thursday, in their separate speeches, commended Governor Chukwuma Soludo’s good works, especially in ensuring that the state is safe, but called for reconsideration of the ban on water sacrifices.
According to them, “water sacrifice is a key aspect of Igbo spiritual practices. It is very important for us to make sacrifices. It has been in vogue since our forefathers. Without these sacrifices, we can’t perform.
* The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Anambra State Command in an effort to establish a robust media presence has reaffirmed its commitment to partner the Anambra Broadcasting Service (ABS) in disseminating command operational activities and successes to members of the public.
Commandant Maku Olatunde, the NSCDC State Commandant made this disclosure while he received on a familiarization visit the Managing Director of the Anambra Broadcasting Service (ABS) , Mr. Chris Molokwu, at the NSCDC State Command Headquarters in Awka.
According to him, the importance of the media in crime fighting cannot be overstated, making a partnership essential, as it leverages the wide coverage of media establishments, particularly radio and television, to disseminate information and intensify efforts against crimes and criminalities.
He stated that under his leadership the command has taken a proactive approach to combating crimes and criminality, specifically targeting sharp practices in the petroleum sector, the mining activities and private security operations, while, prioritizing safeguarding critical national, state, and local government assets and infrastructure through robust security strategies .
Meanwhile, the Managing Director of Anambra Broadcasting Service Mr. Chris Molokwu , who led other top officials of the organization, said the visit was to fraternize with the State Commandant, strengthen the existing relationship and explore other areas of interest between the two organizations.
* The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has flag-off of its First Quarter Health Initiative for Rural Dwellers (HIRD) programme in Alor, Idemili South Local Government Area of Anambra State.
The free medical outreach, held on Thursday, March 20, 2025, at the Dr. Chris Nwabueze Ngige Civic Centre Alor, provided critical healthcare services to 498 indigent members of the community, including diagnosis, blood pressure checks, sugar level tests, eye examinations, and drug administration.
The event, which drew a large turnout, was officially inaugurated by NYSC Anambra State Coordinator, Mrs. Blessing Ekene Iruma who flagged the program on behalf of the NYSC Director General, Brig. Gen.
Olakunle Oluseye Nafiu, highlighted the programme’s significance, stating that the HIRD programme, launched by the National Youth Service Corps in 2014, is a testament to the unwavering commitment to improving the well-being of underserved communities across Nigeria.
* The newly elected traditional ruler of Oba community Engr Augustine Chinedu Emelobe (Eze Okpoko 11), has paid a courtesy visit to the Mayor of Idemili South Local Government Area, Hon. Mrs Amaka Obi in her office at Ojoto.
Speaking during the visitation, Igwe Emelobe appreciated the Mayor for her efforts to the development of Oba and Idemili South, stating that she is doing marvellously well.
The Traditional ruler pledged his unalloyed support to the government both at the state level and local government.
In his remarks, the President General of Oba community, Engr. Uzo Ejiofor commended Governor Chukwuma Soludo for the massive Infrastructural development in Idemili South. He further applauded Hon. Obi for complementing effort of Governor Soludo at grassroot level.
In her welcome speech, Hon. Amaka Obi commended them for the peaceful election and congratulated Igwe-elect, Engr. Sir. Emelobe, appealing him to foster peace, unity and engender development in Oba community.
* Chief Akai Egwuonwu, the frontline aspirant for the Anambra South senatorial by-election on the platform of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), has reinstated his commitment to stronger Anambra South with his legislative activities, when elected.
According to Egwuonwu, upon election into the Nigerian senate, he would focus on security, capacity-building, and using legislative instruments to advance the interests of his Anambra South constituents.
With a solid background in business and investments across Anambra State and beyond, Chief Akai Egwuonwu argued that it is better to create an army of job givers than job seekers.
According to Akai, drawing from his experience in assisting Micro Small, and Medium Enterprises – MSMEs, over the years with start-up capital and assistance for expansion, he is convinced that many people will excel if they get the support that targets helping them to succeed.
* A Dentist has revealed that about 70 percent of Nigerians lose their teeth annually to tooth decay saying that most cases that lead to tooth extraction emanate from preventable causes.
Speaking at University on the Niger Teaching Hospital UNINIGER, Iyienu, Ogidi in Idemili North LGA, Anambra State as the Dental department joined others to mark 2025 World Oral Health Day (WOHD), Dr. Jerry Ugwu revealed that 70 percent of Nigerians especially among the female gender always discover the unavoidable need to remove one tooth or two teeth annually urging those without signs of toothache to visit a dentist at least twice in a year.
According to Dr. Ugwu who gave free health talks to patients at the hospital Out- Patients Department OPD , the theme for WOHD 2025 is “A healthy mouth is a healthy body and a healthy mouth is a healthy mind”.
* The Catholic Bishop of Awka Diocese, His Lordship, Most Rev. Paulinus Ezeokafor, has exhorted Christians the world over, to shun unbridled quest for materialism, insisting that there is no short cut to wealth.
Ezeokafor admonished all to imbibe the spirit of hard work, honesty, perseverance, and ability to wait on God’s plans to manifest in their lives.
The Prelate stated this while delivering a homily during the concelebrated Holy Mass held at St. Patrick’s Catholic Cathedral, Awka, in honour of the late (Mrs) Grace Akwugo Onwuaso, the mother of Rev. Fr Lawrence Onwuaso, who died at the age of 86.
Bishop Ezeokafor said the late matriarch lived a life worthy of emulation, describing her as an industrious, focused, dutiful, and dedicated Christian, whose life on earth was full of earthly lessons.
* Women in Anambra State have said they will support the re-election of the Governor Chukwuma Soludo, because of his free antenatal, delivery and postnatal policy in the state.
The women, over 2, 000 of them, endorsed the Governor during the 2025 Anambra State Women’s Summit, convened by the State Women’s leader of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), Lady Esther Onyekesi in Awka.
The women who were drawn from various backgrounds, political parties, tribes, ethnicity and religion, said the endorsement was to enable the Governor to complete what they described as his humanitarian and development projects he had at hand in all the 179 communities in the state.
