* The Ministry of Works and Infrastructure, Anambra State, has extended warm congratulations to the Governor Chukwuma Soludo on his well-deserved recognition as “2024 governor of the Year” by The Sun Newspaper.
Governor Soludo’s outstanding leadership and dedication to the transformation of Anambra State have earned him national recognition. His visionary policies, infrastructural development strides, and unwavering commitment to economic growth have continued to position Anambra as a model state in Nigeria.
Speaking on behalf of the Ministry of Works and Infrastructure , the Mr. Commissioner, Engr. Ifeanyi Okoma, expressed immense joy over the award, describing it as a fitting acknowledgment of Governor Soludo’s hard work, innovation, and people-centered governance. He noted that the governor’s efforts in road and other infrastructure construction, urban renewal, and infrastructural development have significantly improved the state’s socio-economic landscape.

His commitment to building a livable and prosperous Anambra is evident in every sector, and we at the Ministry of Works and Infrastructure are proud to be part of this transformational journey,” Engr. Okoma stated.
* Police Operatives attached to the 3 -3 Police Divisional Headquarters swiftly responded to a kidnap incident and rescued the victim by Ejison Fuel Station along Enugu/ Onitsha Expressway.
The Operatives in a diligent follow-up of the case arrested two suspects (names withheld) to enable the operatives apprehend other gang members and recovered one Ash-coloured Toyota Corolla allegedly belonging to the victim in a Mechanic workshop at 3-3 Area.
According to the victim, the armed men forcefully withdrew more than One million Naira (#1,000,000) only from his account during his captivity and dispossessed him of his two phones valued at Eight hundred and twenty thousand Naira (#820,000).
All the suspects would be charged to Court on the conclusion of investigations”. PPRO, SP Tochukwu Ikenga stated.
* A lecturer from the Department of Public Law, Faculty of Law, Prof. Emmanuel Chukwudebere Obidimma has been elected the new Provost of the College of Postgraduate Studies, Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka.
Prof. Obidimma’s emergence followed a keenly contested election during the University’s 230th Senate meeting held at the University Auditorium.
Before his election, Obidimma serves as the Deputy Provost (Humanities) of the CPGS. He brings years of administrative experience and academic leadership to his new role. He will succeed succeed Engr. Prof. Philomena Igbokwe, whose tenure ends on March 30th, 2025.
Prof. Obidimma, secured 164 votes to defeat Prof. Stanley Chidi Udedi of the Department of Biochemistry, Faculty of Biosciences, who came second with 146 votes.
* The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) Anambra State Command has expressed its readiness to partner Nigeria Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers (NUPENG) towards finding lasting solutions to tanker accidents and associated fatalities.
Sector Commander Corps Commander Joyce Nnennaya Alexander who gave the assurance on February 28, 2025, while hosting NUPENG executives, emphasized the importance of collaborative efforts in addressing the pressing issue of tanker accidents.
Alexander agreed with the Union’s point on the necessity of establishing truck parks, citing UN road traffic regulations.
The FRSC boss urged private truck owners to register their vehicles and ensure their drivers adhere to safety regulations.
Earlier, Chairman of NUPENG, Mr. Izuchukwu Onaka, highlighted the major issue of poor road conditions, which he stated remained the primary cause of tanker accidents. He appealed to the government to prioritize road improvements and requested the FRSC to communicate the need for designated truck parks to enable drivers to rest and avoid night travel.
* The Commissioner of Police CP Ikioye Orutugu, acknowledging the grief of the family of the late three children found in a fridge at Nnewi has granted the request of the bereaved family to bury their children.
He assured the family of swift Police action when necessary, pending the outcome of the medical findings to complete the ongoing investigation.
The CP further stated that the Command is working diligently to unravel the circumstances surrounding this heartbreaking incident.
* The Assistant Inspector-General of Police Zone 13 Ukpo, AIG Godwin Ndidi Aghaulor have decorated five Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP).
AIG Aghaulor in his speech, congratulated the newly promoted officers and urged them to redouble their efforts in ensuring the efficient delivery of the Nigeria Police Force’s mandate.
The decorated officers, were those recommended for promotion by the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, to the Police Service Commission (PSC) for approval.
The promoted officers are; ACP Prince Ugochukwu Ezejiofor (O/C Zonal Special Enquiry Bureau, ZSEB, Zone 13 Ukpo), ACP Celestine Tochukwu Umeh (O/C SID, Anambra State Command), ACP Judu Nwabugwu Ohaja (AC SCID, Awka), ACP Elha Clever C. (DPO, Ogui Enugu Command), and ACP Oshiobugie Jafaru Emoefe (CFO, Anambra Police Command).
* Anambra Police Command in separate operations has arrested five suspects for kidnapping, armed robbery, unlawful possession of firearm, recovers a locally made Beretta pistol and a suspected stolen vehicle.
The ongoing Security Operational review and safety emplacement in the State by the Commissioner of Police, CP Ikioye Orutugu has started to expose the undesirable elements in the State.
According to a press statement signed by
SP. Tochukwu Ikenga, Police Public Relations Officer, Anambra State Command, Operatives attached to a Special Anti Cultism Squad stormed a criminal hideout at Igbariam and arrested Miracle Chukwunoso, Chinweze Charles and Bonaventure Chigozie all males, between the age bracket of 20 – 26 years.
The team also recovered a locally fabricated Beretta pistol from them.
* The Anambra State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has celebrated the 2025 International Civil Defence Day with the renewal of the pledge to protect lives , maintain security during emergencies and to educate the public on safety measures and disaster preparedness.
The International Civil Defence Day which is annually observed annually on March 1,
highlights the importance of the agency in safeguarding people and property from accidents, natural disasters, and crises.
Addressing officers and men at the State Command Headquarters Awka, the NSCDC State Commandant, Maku Olatunde said the NSCDC like the rest of the world celebrate the International Civil Defence World Day on the first day of March every year, in an attempt to praise the huge developmental role shouldered by Civil Defence in protecting lives, and Critical assets of the nation.
The NSCDC State boss added that the event underscores the specialised role of the Corps in safeguarding the federal, states and local government assets which distinguished the NSCDC from other security agencies.
* Assistant Inspector-General (AIG) of Police, Zone 13 Police Command, Ukpo, AIG Godwin Ndidi Aghaulor has bow out of service.
Aghaulor who was the 7th substantive AIG of Zone 13 Command, was honoured at the Zone13 Police Headquarters, in Ukpo-Dunukofia, with an admirable Pulling Out Parade/send-off ceremony, organised to mark his meritorious service and retirement from service in the Nigeria Police Force.
Aghaulor last served as the AIG of Zone13 Police Command Ukpo-Dunukofia, Anambra State, and in line with the Public Service Rule, attained the mandatory statutory age of 35 years of active service to the good people of Nigeria, and Ndị-Anambra, under the Nigeria Police Force.
Until his retirement, AIG Godwin served in various capacities in the Police Force in different places in Nigeria.
* The Speaker of Anambra State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Somtochukwu Udeze has described the Catholic Bishop of Ekwulobia Diocese, His Eminence, Peter Cardinal Okpaleke as a true man of God whose religious belief and disposition have gone a long way in leading people to God’s salvation.
In his Goodwill Message to Peter Cardinal Okpaleke on behalf of the State Legislature as he marks his 62nd birthday,
signed by Mr. Emma Madu, Press Secretary to the Speaker, Udeze noted that his early elevation to the rank of Cardinal demonstrated God’s purpose to use him in propagating the gospel.
The Speaker who expressed satisfaction with the rapid transformation going on in Ekwulobia Catholic Diocese under the watch of Cardinal Okpaleke, commended him for his commitment towards the spiritual growth of members of the Cathedral as well as the peace and development of the State.
He prayed God to increase His unction and grace upon Cardinal Okpaleke to enable him continue to shepherd effectively the congregation of the Ekwulobia Catholic Diocese, and even people from other religious bodies within his episcopacy.
