* The Managing Director of Anambra State Waste Management Authority (ASWAMA), Mr. Mike Ozoemena, who is the convener of Soludo Volunteer Force (SVF), has said that Governor Chukwuma Soludo is leading the way in women inclusion in governance and social development.
Ozoemena made this statement as the world commemorates 2025 International Women’s Day, stating that empowering women is an investment in the future. And when we educate and train women, we uplift our society.
Mr. Ozoemena added that administration of Soludo is unlocking vast potentials and talents that will contribute to economic growth and societal development.
* The Chairman of Njikoka Local Government Area (LGA) of Anambra State, Hon. Chinedu Ononiba has inspected the Primary Health Centre (PHC) in Nawfia to evaluate its functionality and the overall state of the facility.
Bar. Ononiba alongside members of the Njikoka Legislative Council and Supervisory Councillors, were received by Mrs. Egwuonwu Adaoma, the Head of the Primary Health Centre.
Mrs. Adaoma while guiding them around, provided insights into the daily operations of the health centre.
The Mayor while speaking, expressed his commitment to addressing the challenges faced by the facility, promising to ensure that the healthcare system in Njikoka functions optimally.
Ononiba emphasized the importance of quality healthcare for the inhabitants and pledged to work towards improving the infrastructure and resources available to the health centre.
* The Commissioner for Environment, Engr. Felix Odimegwu, alongside the Managing Director of Anambra State Waste Management Authority (ASWAMA), Hon Mike Ozoemena, joined Associations of 046 Comedians and Mc’s, as they kicked off their ‘keep Anambra clean project’ in Awka.
Dr. Odimegwu while speaking, emphasized the importance of collective responsibility in keeping the environment clean. He stressed that the Soludo-led government was ever ready to support any initiative that will not only promote a clean, green, and sustainable Anambra but also protect and preserve them for future generations.
The Environment Commissioner noted that the Anambra State comedians voice and actions during the sanitation process was worthy of emulation
On his part, the President of the Anambra Comedians and MCs Association, Mr. Wisdom Udemba, (MC Zanzino) stressed that transforming Anambra into a clean, green, and healthy mega city requires collective effort, adding that human activities are closely tied to the environment.
* Anambra State House of Assembly Speaker Rt. Hon. Somtochukwu Udeze has described women as veritable instruments for human transformation in view of the crucial responsibility they shoulder in family upkeep and nation building.
In his Goodwill Message to women as they celebrate their day, Rt. Hon. Udeze called on the newly established South-East Development Commission to sponsor a Bill for a Law through the Houses of Assembly in the Southeast zone for the protection of property rights of women and girls and to confer on the girl child and even the adopted children rights to property inheritance, adding that the Law will also abrogate all harmful and obnoxious practices against women especially widows.
The Speaker while citing section 40 of the 1999 Constitution as amended which guaranteed the rights of citizens, men and women to participate in governance, urged the federal government to create more political opportunities for Nigerian women both in appointments and elections to enable them to showcase their talents and abilities and to contribute meaningfully to the good governance of the country as useful partners in development.
* Anambra Commissioner of Police CP. Ikioye Orutugu has directed the immediate acquisition of permanent phone numbers for Area Commanders and Divisional Police Officers (DPOs) in the State.
CP. Orutugu gave the directive while speaking in a close door meeting with the Area Commanders in the State and after assessing their security briefs
In a press statement signed by SP. Tochukwu Ikenga, Police Public Relations Officer, Anambra State Command, Orutugu noted that the benefits of this directive include improved communication.
“Permanent phone numbers will enable seamless communication between the Police and the public, ensuring that incidents are reported and responded to promptly.
” It will also enhance coordination. With permanent phone numbers, Area Commands and DPOs can coordinate their efforts more effectively, leading to better policing and improved safety.
“It will enhence timely response. The public can now reach the Police quickly and easily, ensuring that incidents are responded to promptly.
* The Commissioner for Finance in Anambra State, Hon. Izuchukwu Okafor, says the Tax for Service campaign is a welcome development because the citizens deserve to get value for their taxes, fees and levies paid the government for public services.
The Commissioner made the remark during an advocacy visit by Tax Justice and Governance Platform, (TJ&GP), led by the Executive Director of Social and Integral Development Centre, (SIDEC), the organization implementing the Tax for Service Project, in partnership with the Civil Society Legislative Advocacy Centre, (CISLAC) funded by Oxfam Nigeria.
Hon. Okafor explained that the government is taking deliberate steps towards addressing issues that have undermined compliance in the past including digitizing the entire revenue collection process to avoid cash transactions.
The Executive Director, Social and Integral Development Centre, (SIDEC), host of TJ&GP, Ugochi Ehiahuruike, explained that the visit was to share the findings of the study conducted across 21 major markets and the needs of the markets with the Commissioner, under whose ministry the state Internal Revenue Service operates.
* Business mogul and philanthropist from Umuenwelum Anam, Anambra West Local Goverment Area, Chief David Edochie Onuorah has dump the Labour Party (LP) to All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA).
Speaking, Chief Onuorah disclosed that his defection to APGA is as a result of the sterling performance of Governor Chukwuma Soludo in less than three years of his administration, which he noted has boosted the socioeconomic development of the State.
Chief Onuorah made it clear that Governor Soludo’s administration’s dynamics has positively touched the people of Anambra West, citing the construction of Miata Anam-Nzam road, connection of some communities in the area to national grid, ongoing construction of a general hospital at Oroma-Etiti Anam, construction of a befitting Local Government Headquarters at Nzam, among numerous others.
* Governor Chukwuma Soludo has urged traditional worshippers in Anambra State to be mindful of public spaces when practicing their faith.
While acknowledging the importance of cultural and religious beliefs, he stressed that some practices should be done in private to avoid disrupting the lives of others.
He also cautioned against leaving sacrifices at road intersections, emphasizing that such practices should be done in private spaces.
Governor Soludo clarified that his administration is not against Omenala. He recognised that true adherents of Omenala follow principles of integrity and justice, which are different from those who engage in harmful rituals.
* A leading aspirant for the All Progressives Congress (APC) ticket in the November 8 Anambra governorship election, Sir Paul Chukwuma has assured women of key roles in his administration if elected, aligning his vision with the 2025 International Women’s Day theme, “Inspire Inclusion.”
In a statement issued to mark the occasion, Sir. Chukwuma emphasised women’s critical contributions to society and governance, promising policies that will empower and uplift them while fostering an inclusive government.
Chukwuma further pledged to implement policies that promote women’s economic empowerment, enhance maternal and child healthcare, and support the education of the girl child, stressing that proper development can only be achieved through inclusive governance.
* The Governor of Anambra State, Professor Chukwuma Charles Soludo, CFR, has joined the global community in celebrating the remarkable achievements and resilience of women across Anambra State and Nigeria on this auspicious occasion of International Women’s Day 2025.
