* Metu Memorial All Stars FC of Onitsha will kickoff the defense of the 2025 Festdrine/ANSFA Anambra All Stars Football Competition against Evergreen All Stars FC of Awka on Sunday, 1st June, 2025 at the Awka City Stadium as the competition bankrolled by MANFES Pharmaceuticals Nigeria Ltd gets underway.

The upcoming competition which was heralded with a colourful draw ceremony held on Tuesday, 27th May, 2025 at the Anambra State Football Association (ANSFA) Secretariat in Awka had the presence of officials from the twenty-seven (27) All Stars Football Clubs drawn into eight groups.

Defending Champions, Metu Memorial Old Boys of Onitsha were drawn in Group A against Evergreen All Stars of Awka, Cubana All Stars of Oba and Awka Capital Elites All Stars FC. 2023 champions, Anambra State All Stars FC were drawn in Group B alongside Estate All Stars of Fegge, Great United All Stars of Awka and Uncle Ralph FC All Stars FC of Mgbakwu.

# Normalcy has returned to the Bridge Head Drug Market in Onitsha after a one-month closure by the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC).

Speaking during an inspection at the drug market in Onitsha, the Commissioner for Information, Dr. Law Mefor stated that they were at the market to ensure that it had been reopened by NAFDAC.

* The State Commandant of Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Anambra Command, Maku Olatunde has thrown his weight and that of the command behind elimination of child trafficking,abuse and labour in Anambra State.

Commandant Maku stated this when he received in audience members of the Network Against Child Trafficking, Abuse, and Labour (NACTAL) Anambra State Chapter at the State Command Headquarters Awka.

He re- echoed that the elimination of child trafficking, labour, and abuse requires a collective effort of all stakeholders including parents, guardians, law enforcement agencies agencies and the community to tackle the disturbing trend which is a major violation of human rights.

Commandant Maku reiterated the stance of the NSCDC to protecting vulnerable groups, particularly children, from exploitation and abuse, in line with the Child’s Right Act 2003.

# Dynamic Sports Academy/Club has officially unveiled their new Jersey and club apparels for the 2025 football season in anticipation of this year’s edition of the Anambra Independent Grassroots Football League.

The unveiling which took place at the Umuchu Mini Stadium, had the players of the team putting on white top, blue short and white hose with the name of the club boldly written on the outfit.

Addressing Sports Journalists, the Technical Director and Coach of the Team, Mr. Donatus Ezeokafor informed that the unveiling ceremony was an opportunity for the club to market the brand in their quest of touching lives and showcasing talented footballers from the grassroots to the state and the world at large.

# Chief Ebuka Onunkwo, the APGA frontrunner aspirant for Anambra South senatorial by-election, attended the Orumba North APGA Youth Summit theme, “Politics as a Service to Humanity: Towards Changing the Political Narrative of Orumba North.”

The event aimed to inspire a new direction in political engagement and leadership within the region.

Addressing the audience, Chief Dr. Onunkwo emphasized the urgent need to reimagine politics not as a tool for personal gain but as a genuine service to humanity. He noted that the future of Orumba North and Anambra South at large depends on the active participation of youth who are committed to ethical leadership and people-centered governance.

# Traders at the Onitsha Main Market have appeal to Governor Chukwuma Soludo to resist the plot by certain individuals to remove the incumbent Caretaker Committee Chairman of the market, Chief Innocent Ezeoha.

The plot to remove Ezeoha, is being orchestrated by officials within the State Ministry of Trade and Commerce, led by Chief Evaristus Uba, the Governor’s Special Adviser on Markets.

Speaking through their coordinator, Chief Ibeme Victor, the traders warned of the potential instability that could arise from such a move, especially at a politically sensitive time when the Governor is seeking re-election.

They cautioned that the removal of a market leader under these circumstances could disrupt the peace and order currently enjoyed in the market.

The traders alleged that the Special Adviser and his associates have already concluded plans to install a new caretaker committee, pending final approval from Governor Soludo. They urged the Governor to reject any such proposal that might reach his desk.

# The two-day capacity building Sports Performance Analysis workshop being organized by the Anambra State Football Coaches Association (ANSFOCA) in collaboration with Binary Sports Tech and Anambra State Football Association (ANSFA) has commenced.

The two-day workshop which has fifty-six (56) participants comprising of professional football coaches in the state and Sports Administrators holding at the New Orleans Hotel, Udoka Housing Estate, Awka.

The workshop features two prominent football resource persons such as Dr. Isah Ladan Bosso, President of Nigeria Football Coaches Association and Mr. Idris Okeke, Founder of Binary Sports and Expert in sports performance analysis.

* A public health physician, Dr. Nkiru Ezeama says menstruation is a natural sign of health and womanhood, not a disgrace or something to be ashamed of.

Dr. Ezeama made the assertion at a symposium for school girls, organised by ZOBAM Charity Foundation in partnership with Creative Ladies Global Resources, to mark the Menstrual hygiene Day on Wednesday in Awka.

The World Menstrual Health Day is marked every May 28, to raise awareness of issues faced by women and girls who do not have access to sanitary products.

The 2025 Menstrual Health Day has the theme: ‘Making Menstruation a Normal Part of Life by 2030’.

Ezeama described menstruation as a natural biological process involving the monthly discharge of blood, which begins when a girl reaches puberty.

# Ahead of the May 30 Biafra Day declared by the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), the State Commandant of Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Anambra State Command, Commandant Maku Olatunde has affirmed the commitment of the Corps to its statutory mandate in the protection of Critical National, State and Local Government Assets and Infrastructure across the state.

Commandant Maku Olatunde stated this when he paid security assessment visit to Dr Josephat Akabuike Chukwudi, the Chief Medical Director of Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University Teaching Hospital, Amaku (COOUTH-Amaku) as a proactive measures emplaced by the Command to prevent vandalism of Critical National, State and Local Government Assets and Infrastructure across the state before, during and after May 30, 2025.

Comdt. Maku urged Anambra residents to go about their normal lawful business as the State Command in collaboration with other sister security agencies had put in place adequate security measures for their safety.

He warned vandals, economic saboteurs and malicious individuals intending to destabilize the improved peace and security in the State to have a rethink as anyone caught in the act will be made to face full wrath of the law.

# Anambra Commissioner for Health, Dr Afam Obidike has assured Onitsha drug traders that the government is committed to their welfare.

Speaking during an inspection at the drug market in Onitsha, Obidike expressed satisfaction that 95 percent of the shops in the market have reopened for business, while the remaining 5 percent remain under lock due to the owner’s failure to present themselves for screening or meet NAFDAC’s directives.

He emphasized that the ongoing construction of the new drug market in Oba, with full facilities for proper drug storage will be completed as scheduled.
