# The Local Government Chairman of Njikoka, Barr. Chinedu Ononiba has distributed 60,000 hybrid plantain suckers, 80,000 organic fertilizers, 20 bags of sesame seeds, and 20 bags of soya beans across the 18 wards.
In his remark, Ononiba said the initiative aims to promote food security, enhance local farming, and empower farmers with high-yield and eco-friendly resources.
The Mayor emphasized his administration’s commitment in making agriculture the backbone of Njikoka’s economy by providing farmers with the necessary tools and resources.
He maintained that the local government seeks to boost productivity and generate economic benefits throughout the communities.
# The Chief Medical Director of Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University Teaching Hospital (COOUTH), Amaku Awka, Dr. Joe Akabuike have urged Nigerians to prioritize their health through regular medical checkups, routine exercise, and intentional healthy living to curb the growing trend of “slump and die syndrome.”
Dr. Akabuike made the call during a one-day health awareness program organized by the Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ), Anambra State Chapter, where he presented a paper on the theme of the event, End “Slump and Die Syndrome: Your Health First”
He advised the public not to hastily bury individuals who slump or are presumed dead as many people have been buried alive through the practice, stressing the importance of taking such persons to the hospital for proper medical evaluation or autopsy to confirm death and determine its cause, an approach he said, could help prevent future occurrences.
# The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has issued a stern warning to illegal miners operating in Anambra State, urging them to cease their activities immediately or face the full consequences of the law.
Commandant Maku Olatunde, the NSCDC Anambra State Commandant, issued the warning on Thursday in Awka, while delivering a goodwill message during the inauguration ceremony of the Executive Committee of the Miners Association of Nigeria, Anambra State Chapter.
Extending his congratulations to the newly inaugurated executives, Commandant Maku highlighted the importance of collaboration between the Miners Association of Nigeria, Anambra State Chapter, and the NSCDC to protect and preserve mining sites from the activities of illegal miners.
The NSCDC boss reaffirmed the Corps’ determination to checkmate the activities of illegal miners across the state, advising those interested in mining mineral resources to obtain a license through the Ministry of Solid Minerals Development.
# The Commissioner of Police Anambra State CP Ikioye Orutugu has reiterated his commitment to an all-inclusive policing strategy by visiting various stakeholders to foster security collaboration and advocacy across the State.
Among dignitaries/stakeholders visited is the leadership of the Anambra State House of Assembly where he had a casual, but closed door meeting.
The CP notes that the approach of engaging various stakeholders seeks to:
Build trust between law enforcement and the community. Gather valuable insights on security concerns. Develop effective solutions to address security challenges.

* Onitsha Building Materials Traders’ Association/Allied Products Dealers Association, Bridge Head Market, Anambra State has took to the major roads in protest against alleged Navy, Special Anti-Touting Squad (SASA), Ocha Brigade , Police and Udo Ga Achi Vigilante operatives including plot by 8 Market Unions Nteje, to relocate them from their market.
The protesters carried placards with the inscription, “Gov. Soludo rescue us from extortion by Navy, Police, SASA, Ocha Brigade, Udo Ga Achi vigilante group, we are not part of 8 market union Nteje, Nteje Market Union wants to relocate us, Gov. Soludo we hope on you to rescue us, Nteje market is personal market, we are part and parcel of Bridge Head Market, our market is not among those to move to Nteje,” among others.
Addressing newsmen during the protest, the Chairman of Onitsha Building Materials Traders’ Association (OBMTA), Chief Chikodili Ejiofor, lamented that the accused security operatives barricaded the entry and exit to Uga Road leading to their market despite the fact that they are not part of the Onitsha Ogbogwu (drug) market shut by National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC).
# Football coaches, managers and administrators have described the two-day Sports performance analysis workshop as very educative, informative, enriching and innovative.
The Football stakeholders made the remarks workshop organized by the Anambra State Football Association (ANSFA) in collaboration with Binary Sports Tech and Anambra State Football Coaches Association (ANSFOCA).
The two-day workshop had over sixty (60) participants in attendance comprising professional football coaches and administrators in the state with two prominent football resource persons such as Dr. Isah Ladan Bosso, President of Nigeria Football Coaches Association and Mr. Idris Okeke, Founder of Binary Sports and Expert in sports performance analysis.
* Governor Chukwuma Charles Soludo has congratulated President Bola Tinubu, on successfully marking two years in office.
In his congratulatory message, Soludo commends Tinubu’s bold and visionary economic reform policies that have positioned Nigeria on a trajectory of sustainable growth and development, despite temporary pains.
The Governor particularly acknowledges the strengthened partnership between the Federal Government and Anambra State, built on the foundation of progressive ideals and mutual commitment to excellence in governanc.
* Anambra State Government worried by the various reports circulating on various social media platforms claiming that Ọgbọ-Ọgwụ Market, Bridge Head, Onitsha, was still closed, embarked on a fact-finding media tour of the market to ascertain the true situation on the ground.
The Commissioner for Information, Dr. Law Mefor, and his counterpart in the Health Ministry, Dr Afam Obidike, walked round the market and interacted with some traders, the NAFDAC representative and the market leadership.
According to Mefor, who spoke to journalists amid some traders after the market tour, the visit was a follow-up on the governor’s earlier visit in February to ascertain whether the market was still closed.
Also speaking, the Commissioner for Health, Dr Afam Obidike, assured that the drug market with full facilities for proper drug storage under construction in Oba will be completed as scheduled, even as he reminded the traders of the government’s commitment to their welfare.
Also in an interview, the Deputy Director, Investigation and Enforcement for the South South/South East Region of NAFDAC, Pharm. Omoyeni Babatunji said that the data they captured identified people with their shops, adding that 95% of the shops in the market have reopened.
In his remarks, the Ọgbọ-Ọgwụ C.T.C. Chairman, Hon. Ndubuisi Chukwuleta, explained that the market has been open since 7th March, 2025, when NAFDAC finished their work.
# The Substantive Rector, Federal Polytechnic Oko, Dr Chioma Irene Awuzie has announced the Reintroduction of Part-time academic programmes and successful accreditation of more departments to give lovers of education more varieties and access to Education.
Delivering a lecture on her administration’s 12 Points Agenda, Awuzie said that the R2 (Evening Program) and Weekend Programmes were reintroduced to cater for individuals who cannot attend regular weekday classes including workers, business owners and parents with the aim of widening access to higher education for underserved groups.
Awuzie while speaking at the Polytechnic Auditorium, as one of the activities to mark her 100 days in office, said under her administration there is prompt payment of salary.
