# Governor Chukwuma Soludo has been honored with the launch of a new biography titled; The Audacity to Transform: A Front Row, which highlights his impactful leadership and ongoing development efforts in Anambra State.
The Two Hundred And Eighty Three Paged book, authored by Dr. Anselm Onuorah, presents a balanced narrative of Governor Soludo’s administration, showcasing his trailblazing approach to governance without resorting to sycophancy, which Dr. Onuora described as more than a philosophical composition.
According to the Governor, the ability to connect from top to bottom is the foundation of transformation and noting this, he expressed gratitude for the feedback from the author through the book.
He disclosed that all that has been done was only a scratch as there will be a massive acceleration in development of Anambra State to consolidate the audacity to transform.
# Female chairpersons and members of Ward Development Committees (WDCs) have been urged to contribute selflessly to the development of primary healthcare centres (PHCs) in their communities.
The Executive Secretary of the Anambra State Primary Health Care Development Agency (ASPHCDA), Dr. Chisom Uchem, made the appeal during a presentation on Health Governance and Accountability at a capacity-building workshop for women in WDCs on leadership skills.
The workshop, organized under the Strengthening Public Accountability for Results and Knowledge (SPARK II) campaign, seeks to promote women’s meaningful participation in decision-making processes within PHCs.
She emphasized the importance of women’s leadership in local health management.
# The Director of Anambra Primary Health Care, Dr. Ngozi Okeke says there is need to encourage women to come and take charge of WDCs in various communities because they know where the issues affect them.
Dr. Okeke while speaking during a presentation on Health Governance and Accountability at a capacity-building workshop for women in WDCs on leadership skills encouraged women to believe in their abilities.
Speaking further on the Basic Health Care Provision Fund (BHCPF), Dr. Okeke highlighted that community involvement, participation, and ownership are critical components of primary healthcare.
She reminded participants that their annual and quarterly business plans should be anchored on ten key priority areas guiding the utilization of BHCPF funds.
# The people of Ifite-Ogwari community in Ayamelum Local Government Area have celebrated their 2025 Igba ji festival at the Palace of their Traditional Ruler, Igwe Alphonsus Ofuebe.
Speaking while cutting roasted yams harvested in the community, Igwe Ofuebe expressed gratitude to God for giving them a bountiful harvest this year, and prayed for the continuous progress of Ifite-Ogwari, their sons and daughters.
In his goodwill message to the community, Governor Chukwuma Soludo, represented by the Commissioner for Petroleum and Mineral Resources, Barrister Tony Ifeanya, while congratulating the people on their new yam festival celebration, noted that the community had benefited immensely from his administration, and urged them to vote massively for the All Progressives Grand Alliance in the November eight governorship election in order to enjoy more dividends of democracy.
In their separate speeches, the Traditional Prime Minister of Ifite-Ogwari, Chief Simeon Nweke, thanked God for their 2025 farming season which he described as peaceful and bountiful, while the Palace Secretary of the community, Comrade Oliver Nweke, and the Vice President General, Mr Sunday Ekwunife, who described yam as the king of crops in Igbo land, noted that new yam festival is a traditional occasion that kick-starts harvest, even as they thanked Igwe Ofuebe for being a blessing to the community.
# The Nigerian Optometric Association (NOA) Anambra State Chapter has offered free medical tests, drugs and glasses to over five hundred (500) persons within Awka and Onitsha metropolises
The association held the outreach as Optometrists joined the rest of the world to celebrate World Sight Day (WSD) 2025.
Speaking at Mary Mother of Christ Compassionate Home of the Needy and Abandoned, Uguta Road,Onitsha, an Optometrist Sr. Dr. Chizobam Azubuike IHM said that they were having a free Eye check for the occupants to mark WSD in Anambra.
According to Azubuike, earlier this morning I spoke to the pupils of Good Shepherd Nursery and Primary School telling them things about eye health. I told them how to love their eyes according to the 2025 theme of WSD celebration ‘ Love your eyes Action: Vision for everyone’ .
# With increasing health demands, limited resources and the challenge of brain drain, there is a pressing need for nurses who are not only caregivers, but policy influencers, innovators and change advocates.
In her paper presentation at the capping/matriculation ceremony of 218 year one Nursing and Midwifery students of College of Nursing Sciences, St. Joseph’s Hospital Adazi-Nnukwu titled; “Beyond the uniform: Redefining the image of nursing in Nigeria”, a lecture with the Department of Nursing Sciences, University of Nigeria Nsukka, Professor Anthonia Chinweuba, called on the new generation to prospective nurses to rise above stereotypes, embrace their potentials and take ownership of a bold vision for the future healthcare in Nigeria, reminding the students that their true identity lies in the skills they develop, the compassion they show, and the impact they make in the lives of patients, families and communities.
Registrar/CEO, Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria, Alhaji Ndagi Alhassan, represented by the Anambra State Zonal Officer, Mrs Patricia Emeka, noted that the students had put in more efforts to be part of those training to become a nurse, urging them to brace for the future by embracing hard work, resilience, patience, and service with human face.
While commending the management and staff of the college for their continuous dedication to training competent and compassionate nurses, the Director of Nursing Sciences, Anambra State Ministry of Health, Mrs Christiana Dike, represented by Mrs Ifeyinwa Afam, charged the matriculants to, among other things, embrace technology and innovation in order to keep themselves updated and open to learning new skills in the modern healthcare that is evolving even as she urged parents and guardians who entrusted their children to the noble path to keep supporting them through the demanding but fulfilling journey.
# The Speaker of Anambra State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Somtochukwu Udeze has called on government at all levels to initiate actions and programmes aimed at offering a better opportunity for the girl children to maximize their potentials and earn a better life.
As the global community celebrates the International Day of the Girl Child, in his message, Rt. Hon. Udeze enjoined relevant authorities and agencies to abrogate obnoxious policies and inhuman acts such as physical, sexual and emotional torture as well as other related gender-based violence like forced or early child marriage militating against the future of the girl child.
The Speaker while commending the wife of the Governor, Dr. Nonye Soludo for all her efforts towards the betterment of the future of the young girls in the State, called for adequate inclusion of young females in matters that concern them especially on education, adding that an educated woman has the power to educate the entire family.
The State Number One Lawmaker, enjoined the girl children to parade themselves with dignity and shun all forms of immorality, reminding them that girls with dreams become women with vision, purpose and impact.
Udeze appealed to parents to continue to mould and guide the future of their girl children and called on affluent citizens to see the empowerment of the girl child as a collective responsibility that most be carried out with firm commitment.
# The Chairman NOA Anambra State Chapter, Dr. Chidiebere Ezeanowai advised against self medication, walking under the scorching sun, prolonged watching of television, reading or use of electronic devices like smart phones, tablets or computers without preventive measures.
Speaking at Mary Mother of Christ Compassionate Home of the Needy and Abandoned, Uguta Road, Onitsha, Ezeanowai said “How you take care of yourself determines how you love or take care of your eyes.
“You Love your eyes by taking care of your eyes. Avoid harmful habits or ingesting unhealthy substances.
“Don’t keep viewing phone, TV, books for an interrupted long period of time because the eye is a very sensitive organ. Myopia is on the increase because of constant use of tablets, phone.
