# Civil Rights Concerns (CRC) has warned that weak tax harmonization in Anambra State is creating loopholes that fuel revenue leakages and encourage multiple taxation, threatening fiscal accountability in the state.
The Executive Director of CRC, Okey Onyeka, made the call in Awka during the organization’s 2025 quarterly budget review, which examined how the first two quarters of the year align with the 2024 financial report and programme delivery.
The budget review had as its theme: “Strengthening fiscal justice for gender equality and tax accountability: ensuring that public resources are raised and spent responsibly, transparently, and equitably in Anambra.”
According to Onyeka, the exercise was designed to help stakeholders assess budget performance, identify service gaps in basic sectors, and set priorities for inclusion in the 2026 state budget currently being prepared.
Onyeka stressed that unless government takes urgent action to harmonize tax collection and block leakages, the state will continue to lose significant revenues that could otherwise fund social services.
# Operatives of the Anambra State Police Command attached to Rapid Response Squad Awkuzu have arrested Mr. Bernard Odinchefu, a 62 year old male suspect and alleged informant of a secessionist group, anchoring a major extortion network operating in parts of Ihiala Local Government Area.
The suspect is in charge of illegal levies on traders in Isseke and Orsumoghu communities, collecting ₦10,000 and above monthly from each trader and extorting ₦100,000 and above from families conducting burial ceremonies before the occasion or any such related event takes place in the area.

Anambra State Command, stated that the illicit proceeds were allegedly remitted to his Commander in a terrorist camp.

# The Mayor of Dunukofia LGA and Co-Chairman (Operations) of the Soludo/Ibezim Re-election Campaign Council in Dunukofia, Hon. Chijioke C. Ozumba Esq has successfully hosted the commemoration of World Alzheimer’s Day at the Comprehensive Health Centre (CHC), Ukpo.
This year’s global theme, “Ask about Alzheimer’s, Ask about Dementia,” highlighted the urgent need for greater awareness, early detection, and community support for families and individuals living with Alzheimer’s disease and other forms of dementia.

# The League of Anambra Professionals (LAP) has announced the launch of its Future Forward Scholarship Program, an educational support initiative aimed at assisting brilliant but financially disadvantaged students of Anambra origin to pursue higher education.
According to LAP, the scheme is designed for candidates who have passed their JAMB examinations but are unable to proceed to the university due to lack of funds.
The program, described as one of the organization’s flagship Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) projects, seeks to give hope to young Ndi Anambra and strengthen the state’s human capital through education.
# Sir. Paul Chukwuma, the candidate of the Young Progressives Party (YPP) in the November 8, 2025 governorship election, has donated and installed transformer in Udabor community in Umueri, Anambra East Local Government Area of the state.
Chukwuma while speaking during the commissioning over the weekend, said he bought the transformer for his leisure business, but on hearing the plight of the people, he released it to the community immediately.
According to the YPP governorship candidate, “seeing the joy the new transformer brought to the men and women, young and old members of the community, it reminded me what it may takes to fix communities within reach.
# The Local Government Chairman of Aguata, Dr. Chibueze Ofobuike, in a significant boost for local entrepreneurship has sponsored ten Aguata-based business owners to participate as vendors in the highly anticipated Ka Anyi Zuo Ahia product and market fair.
The one-day exhibition, organized by Geoserve Renaissance Academy and Anambra Broadcasting Service (ABS), aims to promote local businesses and foster economic growth across Anambra State.

# The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) Anambra State has officially flagged off its 3rd Quarter Health Initiative for Rural Dwellers (HIRD) at the General Hospital Mbaukwu in Awka South Local Government Area on Thursday, October 2, 2025.
In a powerful demonstration of national service and community solidarity, Anambra NYSC led by the Anambra State Coordinator, Mrs. Pauline Ojisua, the event marked a significant milestone for the Mbaukwu community, which received comprehensive, free medical services for the first time under the HIRD programme.
Over hundred (100) residents benefited from consultations, diagnostics, and treatment provided by a multidisciplinary team of NYSC Corps members, including doctors, nurses, pharmacists, optometrists, physiotherapists, and medical laboratory scientists.
Launched in 2014, the HIRD initiative is a flagship outreach of the NYSC aimed at bridging healthcare gaps in underserved rural communities.
Speaking at the flag-off ceremony held in Enugwu-Ukwu Community, Mrs. Ojisua emphasized the programme’s mission: “Health is wealth. By improving the health of our rural dwellers, we uplift families, strengthen communities, and build a more resilient Nigeria.”
The Coordinator lauded the dedication of Corps members and expressed gratitude to the traditional institution, community leaders, and residents of Mbaukwu for their warm reception and logistical support.
She also called on private individuals, NGOs, and government agencies to partner with NYSC in scaling up the initiative.
# As the November 8th 2025 Anambra State Governorship Election draws near, the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, has presented the upgraded Voters’ Register to political parties.
The Resident Electoral Commissioner of INEC in Anambra State, Dr. Queen Elizabeth Agwu, while making the presentation in Awka, disclosed that the Voters’ register will be used to conduct the November 8th governorship election and the current number of registered voters in Anambra is two point eight million.
Agwu maintained that INEC has made all the necessary preparations for the conduct of a free, fair and credible polls.
