# The Anambra State Government has reaffirmed its commitment to law, order and public accountability; following an unauthorized operation by ad-hoc staff of the OCHA Brigade at the Emeka Offor Plaza axis of the Onitsha Main Market, which resulted in casualties.
At least three persons critically injured in the incident are currently receiving treatment at the Onitsha General Hospital, with medical bills already settled by the state government.
Speaking on the development, the Managing Director of the OCHA Brigade, Mr Celestine Anere, clarified that the operation was not approved by the leadership of the agency, and stressed that such unsanctioned actions contradict the clear standards guiding the operations of the Brigade, adding that those involved have been taken into custody and will be handed over to the Police and the Department of State Services (DSS) for thorough investigation.
Mr Anere reiterated that Governor Chukwuma Soludo’s administration remains on top gear in its efforts to entrench discipline, restore sanity and ensure a clean, green and livable Anambra.
# The draws for Egwu Ekere 2025 competition has been held successfully as football extravaganza is set to radiate the nooks and crannies of Onitsha and its environs.
The competition which is also supported and approved by the Anambra Football Association(ANSFA) held her draws in the News Room of Udala Radio 104.7fm Premises.
In his remarks, the convener, Ndema Obinna (DJ Phamouz) appreciated the persons present while also showering encomium on the Sponsors, Winners Global Estate Limited, Anambra Football Association (ANSFA), Media Partners for the tournament, Udala Radio 104.7fm Representatives of the 18 participating teams and the General Public.
The Opening ceremony of the competition is slated for Sunday, 5th October, 2025 with Fegge stadium, Onitsha playing host for the fixture which will be contested by Housing Estate Fegge and Miss Elems Street, Fegge from Group A.
# Governor Chukwuma Soludo has expressed his dissatisfaction with the pace of work at Solution Innovation District, (SID), Project, and urged contractors handling the project to step up their efforts.
In a surprise visit to the ongoing construction site, Soludo, accompanied by key government officials and representatives from the contractor firm involved in the project, raised concerns over delays in construction that could hinder the project’s objectives; a building that should have been delivered by February this year.
The Governor expressed commitment to delivering the project on time for the benefit of ndị Anambra, and asked the contractors to explain why the contract should not be terminated, and the contract rewarded to another contractor.
# Ahead of the November 8th governorship election, Young Progressive Party (YPP) candidate, Sir. Paul Chukwuma has dismissed Prof. Soludo’s endless comic commentaries as a poor attempt at governance, advising him to rise above jesting and tell ndi Anambra what he has tangibly achieved with the mandate entrusted to him.
According to Chukwuma, the people are not entertained by jokes when insecurity, crumbling infrastructure, and dwindling social life stare them in the face. He admonishes Governor Soludo to be serious and face governance issues in Anambra State or resign and join petty market women in iko onu.
The governorship candidate, who wondered what Soludo has been doing in over three years to address the electricity need of Anambra, assured that he had understudied stable power supply in Aba, and China.
# The Traditional Ruler of Oba Community in Idemili South Local Government Area, His. Majesty Igwe Engr. Augustine Chinedu Emelobe has pledged to ensure that Oba was never seen in badlight by tackling every sector of the community to ensure all round development, progress and prosperity.
Speaking at his palace, Igwe Emelobe who celebrated his first New Yam Festival commended ndi Oba for their support.
“For the new Oba agenda, you will agree with me that with the help of Anambra State Government there is an improvement in security and we hope it will continue to improve.
“We are resolving many land issues between the individuals and people who sold land multiple times. There have been a lot of engagements.
” My door is always open. We have set up different committees, Peace councils and from now you will be seeing some improvement in the way Oba community is seen outside Oba, within Anambra and Nigeria. The Monarch remarked.
# The Deputy Governorship candidate for All Progressives Congress (APC), Dr. Mrs. Uche Ekwunife has responded to Prof. Chukwuma Soludo, urging him to go to court if he claims her PhD certificate is fake.
In a video circulating online, Ekwunife fired back at Soludo who claimed she obtained a certificate from an unaccredited and unrecognized University in USA.
“The illiterate professor that said he is the governor of Anambra state should please leave me alone, we are practicing social democracy in Nigeria and all political party know their candidate.
” Soludo has contested for governor of Anambra state twice before Willie Obiano imposed him on ndi Anambra ” Ekwunife said.
# The Anambra State Government is aware of the disturbance that occurred in Onitsha Main Market on Tuesday September 9th 2025.
According to Commissioner for Information, Anambra State Government Fr. Law Mefor, in a press release made available to Angel Network News (ANN) reads:
“We appreciate the swift intervention of the Police, who have restored calm and order to the area.
“An investigation into the incident has commenced, and the government will ensure that all necessary measures are taken to prevent similar occurrences in the future.
“Regrettably, one of the victims, Miss Chinwe Igwe, was confirmed dead on arrival. Her body has been deposited at the hospital morgue for autopsy and preservation. The other victims are currently receiving treatment and are responding positively. Mefor stated
# Anambra State Police Command has recovered three hundred arms, twenty explosives, over one thousand ammunitions and over thirty vehicles within the past six months.
The Commissioner of Police, Anambra, CP. Ikioye Orutugu, while briefing newsmen in his office at the Commands Headquarters, Amawbia, added that the command has dislodged five criminal camps across Anambra.
The police boss maintained that the Command has brought about incidents of kidnapping to the barest minimum, resulting in the state not having any kidnapping incident in the last one month.
CP. Orutugu also stated that the command has equally arrested over two hundred culprits for various offences such as cultism and armed robbery, as well as suspects involved in the kidnapping and killing of Justice Azuka, and equally settled land disputes in some communities, all within six months.
