Troops crush 13 ISWAP fighters in failed ambush

The Kaduna State Police Command has summoned former Kaduna State governor, Nasir el-Rufai, and several African Democratic Congress (ADC) leaders for questioning over alleged conspiracy, incitement of public disturbance, and attacks on party members.

A police letter dated September 4, 2025, signed by Deputy Commissioner of Police Uzainu Abdullahi, ordered El-Rufai and six other ADC leaders to appear before the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) on September 8.

Those invited include Bashir Sa’idu, Jafaru Sani, Ubaidullah Mohammed, Nasiru Maikano, Aminu Abita, and Ahmed Rufa’i Hussaini.

The invitation followed a violent attack on ADC members in Kaduna on August 30 during the inauguration of the party’s Coalition Transition Committee.

Witnesses said political thugs stormed the event, injuring members and destroying property.

ADC leaders accused security agencies of complicity, alleging that police operatives failed to intervene and, in some cases, aided the attackers.

Malam Lawal Batagarawa, former Minister of State for Defence, condemned the incident during an emergency press conference at El-Rufai’s Kaduna residence.

Flanked by El-Rufai and ex-Sokoto governor Aminu Tambuwal, he described the violence as “a dangerous slide into dictatorship,” warning that democracy was under threat if opposition voices continued to be silenced.

Earlier, police sealed off the ADC office in Kaduna, deploying several patrol vans to block access.

Party officials insisted the move was politically motivated, calling for the arrest and prosecution of those behind the violence.

Meanwhile, the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) dismissed ADC as a “vehicle with old drivers and faulty engines,” claiming it posed no threat ahead of 2027 elections.

Aliyu Bello, APC chairman in Nasarawa State, said the party was focused on advancing President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, which he credited with stabilizing the economy.

In a separate statement, Minister of State for Education, Prof. Suwaiba Said Ahmed, declared there would be “no vacancy in Aso Rock in 2027.”

She praised Tinubu’s reforms, saying they laid a lasting foundation for future generations.

Also speaking, Umar Tanko Yakasai, Director-General of the Tinubu Support Group, dismissed the newly formed opposition coalition as “a pack of dominoes.”

He claimed opposition leaders were the same figures who looted Nigeria in the past.

The unfolding developments in Kaduna highlight growing political tension as opposition parties face mounting pressure from both security agencies and ruling party loyalists.

With police summoning El-Rufai and sealing opposition offices, the political landscape ahead of 2027 appears increasingly volatile.
