Trump Announces Kennedy Center as Venue for 2026 World Cup Draw

U.S. President Donald Trump has confirmed that the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts will host the 2026 FIFA World Cup draw on December 5, underlining the venue’s significance in the build-up to the global tournament.
The draw event, which will determine the group stage matchups for the first-ever 48-team World Cup, was announced during a White House ceremony attended by FIFA President Gianni Infantino, Vice President J.D. Vance, and Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem.
Mr. Trump described the decision as a tremendous honor for Washington, stating it brings “this global event” to the cultural heart of the nation’s capital. He also revealed that the Kennedy Center will serve as FIFA’s new U.S. headquarters, alongside an ongoing US$257 million renovation to coincide with America’s 250th anniversary celebrations.
FIFA President Infantino remarked on the symbolic power and global unity of the event, highlighting the draw’s importance for fans and participating nations. Trump had the ceremonial moment of holding the World Cup trophy and joked about keeping it in the Oval Office.
Although Washington, D.C., is not among the 16 host cities of the tournament, the announcement ensures its central role in the initial phase of the World Cup, alongside matches set to be held across the U.S., Mexico, and Canada.
