Trump Raises Prospect of Moving 2026 World Cup Matches Over “Safety” Concerns

U.S. President Donald Trump said Thursday he might relocate FIFA World Cup matches away from cities he deems unsafe, singling out San Francisco and Seattle.

“If I think it isn’t safe, we’ll move it into a different city,” Trump declared during an Oval Office briefing, as he criticized local leadership in the cities in question.

Seattle is slated to host six matches at Lumen Field and the San Francisco area (Levi’s Stadium) six matches as part of the United States, Canada and Mexico co-hosting the 2026 tournament.
