UK, Canada, Australia Officially Recognise State of Palestine Amid Gaza War

Three major Western democracies — the United Kingdom, Canada, and Australia — have formally recognised the State of Palestine, in what is being seen as a diplomatic shift driven by concern over Israel’s conduct in Gaza and expanding West Bank settlements.
Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney said the recognition “empowers those who seek peaceful co-existence” and emphasized that the move does not legitimise terrorism. Prime Minister Anthony Albanese of Australia echoed the decision, stating it forms part of an international push for a two-state solution. Meanwhile, UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer described recognition as a step toward reviving hopes for lasting peace.
Israel condemned the recognitions, saying the move rewards terrorism and undermines peace efforts.
