Manchester United are actively scouring the market for prolific attacking options to bolster Ruben Amorim’s squad for the 2025/2026 campaign.
Earlier this week, Sky Sports’ Florian Plettenberg revealed four names on INEOS’ striker shortlist heading into the summer window, with Benjamin Sesko, Viktor Gyokeres, Victor Osimhen and Hugo Ekitike all of interest to the Red Devils.
He has since verified their links to another name in the form of highly-regarded Dutch starlet Xavi Simons. Taking to X/Twitter last night, Plettenberg penned: “Understand Manchester United are still keen on Xavi.
“The club have never lost focus on him. In addition to a striker, they are also looking for a versatile attacking midfielder. The problem: Xavi is very expensive. RB Leipzig is demanding €80 million. However, a departure for Xavi is possible.”
It’ll come as no surprise to learn Leipzig value their attacking whiz in the region of £67m. Already in his senior career, he’s notched 40 goals at just 21 years of age and is therefore nowhere near his peak.
United mulling over summer Xavi Simons swoop

This season, Simons has recorded eight goals and five assists in 25 appearances, having missed two months of the season through an ankle injury setback.
He’s back to his best now, though. The youngster’s last six Bundesliga outings have seen him return five goal contributions, most recently playing an influential role in Leipzig’s win over Borussia Dortmund by scoring and assisting in the 2-0 triumph.
Simons’ contract runs until 2027, hence why the German outfit will hold the upper hand in any potential negotiations this summer. They have no real need to sell him and will be well aware that his transfer value has the potential to increase to well over €100m if he continues his scintillating form.
