UNIZIK Lecturer Killed in Anambra Carjacking Attempt

A lecturer at Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, Dr. Fabian Osita, has been tragically killed by suspected car snatchers in Awka, Anambra State.

The incident occurred on Monday night near the high-tension area in Aroma as Dr. Osita was driving home from work. According to eyewitnesses, the assailants intercepted his Toyota Corolla and shot him in the head when he resisted their attempt to steal the vehicle. The attackers fled the scene with his car, leaving his lifeless body behind.

Dr. Osita, a lecturer in the Business Department of UNIZIK, was pronounced dead before help could reach him. The attack has left the university in mourning.

Ken Chukwurah, the Chief Security Officer of the institution, confirmed the incident and expressed concern about the rising insecurity in the area. He also noted that members of the university’s Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) were planning to stage a protest at the Government House in Awka to draw attention to the growing violence in the state capital.

The Anambra State Police Command has launched an investigation to track down the perpetrators. Police spokesperson SP Tochukwu Ikenga confirmed the incident, urging anyone with useful information to assist the authorities. The stolen vehicle is a 2006 Toyota Corolla, ash-colored, with an Enugu plate number.

The police also extended their condolences to the victim’s family, colleagues, and friends, emphasizing the importance of public cooperation in solving the case.
