Earlier, the Director, Chisco Institute of Logistics and Supply Chain Management UNIZIK, Engr Tochukwu Onyeyili said the establishment of this Institute marked a significant milestone, not just for the University but also for the logistics and supply chain management sector in Nigeria.

“Our essence is simple yet profound:to serve as a hub of innovation, capacity building, and professional excellence in logistics and supply chain management. The prospects are boundless-from producing highly skilled professionals to addressing critical challenges in transportation, warehousing, inventory, distribution, and overall supply chain efficiency.

“We are proud to announce that the Chisco Institute is now fully accredited by the National Board for Technical Education(NBTE), recognized under the National Skills Qualification Framework (NSQF), and certified as a Skills Training Centre (STC) in collaboration with the Federal Ministry of Education. This positions us as a leading accredited hub for skills development and professional certification in Nigeria.

“Furthermore, in partnership with the University, the Institute is actively running Postgraduate Programmes In Logistics and Supply Chain Management. These programmes are designed to blend theory with practice, equipping graduates with advanced analytical skills, research capacity, and practical expertise needed to drive efficiency and innovation in the global supply chain landscape.”

Engr Onyeyili also praised the Endower of the Institute, Chief Anyaegbu whose generosity, foresight, and commitment to human capital development stand as a beacon of inspiration to all

Responding, the Endower, Chief Chidi Anyaegbu expressed optimism that road transportation will change from now henceforth such that it will be a regulated sector like it’s Airline counterpart.

“Under the Corps Marshallship of Chief Osita Chidoka (former Minister of Aviation), I became a friend of Road Safety because he believed in me and my transport company. He is the first person that built Command and Control Centre in the country. His Control Room showed all vehicles registered with Road Safety.

“Thus, I don’t play with Road Safety because before any driver is engaged in Chisco, he must undergo eye, mental and psychological testing in the hospital and will afterwards, be certified by Road Safety.”

On what motivated him for the endowment, he said “When I came into transport business in 1981, I saw the sector as owner business instead of customer business. As a customer oriented fellow, I understand that it the customer that makes you rich based on the services you gave to them. This was why I took it upon myself to build this Institute after visiting Brazil and France, and having Studies their transport system.

“Today is my happiest day to achieve the legacy that our children can now change the transport sector to be at par with its contemporaries in the world. This is the fulfilment of my 15-year dream.”

On the work before the board, Chief Anyaegbu said “the Board will come on a round table, study the problems of road transport business in Nigeria and produce a delegation to the Federal government that will present a blueprint to regulate road transport system in the country.”

He expressed satisfaction with what he saw at the Institute’s workshop. “Am very impressed because am an automobile mechanic for 43. Chisco is 43 years old, I found it. Am also a driver. I started road transport business from scratch and understand the business in Nigeria.”

The Chisco boss, who founded Chisco Transport Nigeria Ltd in 1981, is a distinguished fellow of the Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport (International), London, and an honorary fellow of the Institute of Internal Auditors of Nigeria.

He holds the national honour of Member of the Order of the Federal Republic (MFR) and an honorary Doctorate in Business Administration from Penn State University, USA. He has also attended management and entrepreneurial programmes across France, USA, Brazil, Germany, and the United Kingdom.###
