Varsity Pro-Chancellors Appeal to FG to Avert New ASUU Strike Threat

Pro-Chancellors from federal universities across Nigeria have urged the Federal Government to address unresolved demands raised by the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) to prevent a fresh strike that threatens to disrupt the academic calendar.
In a statement Wednesday, they called on government negotiators to expedite fulfillment of earlier agreements, especially issues relating to unpaid salaries, revitalisation of public universities, and adequate funding for education infrastructure.
They emphasized that student welfare and institutional accreditation are at risk if government responses continue to lag. The Pro-Chancellors warned that prolonged disruption would hit vulnerable students hardest — those who rely on government support and cannot afford private alternatives.
The appeal comes amid growing disquiet among university administrators, parents, and students following ministerial pronouncements that government has no immediate plans to meet all of ASUU’s demands before the next round of dialogue.
