VIDEO: Moment Gov Fubara Returns to Rivers Govt House

Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara has assured residents that his administration will continue to work in their best interest as he returned to the Government House, Port Harcourt, after six months away.
His return followed the end of the controversial emergency rule imposed by President Bola Tinubu in March 2025.
Fubara, reinstated on Wednesday, was warmly welcomed by massive crowds at the Port Harcourt International Airport, Omagwa, in Ikwerre Local Government Area.
Videos and photos circulating on social media showed jubilant supporters waving banners and chanting solidarity songs as they escorted him to the Brick House, the state’s seat of power.
In his first public remarks, the governor expressed gratitude for the overwhelming reception.
“I know everyone wants to hear something from me. In fact, you expected it when I landed at the airport,” he told supporters.
“Let me first of all appreciate the wonderful people of Rivers State. I’m really humbled by what I saw at the airport.”
Fubara described the turnout as a reaffirmation of the bond between his government and the people.
“It is not just the celebration, the massive reception by the number of people who came out to celebrate, but the display and reaffirmation of the bond between this government and the people that we are serving,” he added.
The governor assured residents that he would not abandon the principles that earned him their trust.
“We will, by the grace of God, continue to do those things that have made you people love us,” he promised.
He also announced that he would make a statewide broadcast at 6 p.m. to formally thank stakeholders who contributed to restoring peace in Rivers State after months of political turmoil.
Fubara’s comeback signals a fresh phase in the crisis that has rocked Rivers politics since his fallout with former governor and current FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike.
The tension peaked in March when Tinubu suspended the state government and declared emergency rule after a constitutional standoff between Fubara and the State House of Assembly.
President Tinubu announced the end of the emergency on September 17, clearing the way for Fubara’s return.
During the six-month suspension, Rivers politics was marked by uncertainty, protests, and heated debates over democracy and governance.
Analysts say Fubara’s successful return could either ease tensions or set the stage for renewed power struggles.
For now, the governor has signaled resilience and a clear intention to complete his mandate.
His words to jubilant supporters reflected confidence, loyalty, and a commitment to protect the trust placed in him by Rivers people.
