A video that is currently being shared on social media shows the student body expressing their profound dissatisfaction with what they have termed as the ongoing disregard and disruption in the academic atmosphere that has been caused by the proclamation of an emergency circumstance.

According to the students, the legislation, which was initially designed to modernise the education system, has instead slowed down development and made it more difficult for them to pursue their academic goals.

In a statement made on behalf of the association, student leaders indicated that they had exhausted all nonviolent lines of communication with appropriate authorities, but they had not yet received any answer that was meaningful.

They issued a warning that they will mobilise students from all tertiary institutions in the state to enforce a complete closure of academic activities if their demands are not granted within the next seven days.

The African Regional Student Support Service (ARSS) emphasised that their efforts are not driven by political motivations but rather by the necessity to preserve the educational rights of students in the state of Rivers. For the sake of the students’ future, they expressed their desire for Governor Siminalayi Fubara to step in and break the gridlock that has been engulfing the situation.
