Vigilante kills final year student in Delta

In a shocking incident, a member of vigilante group has shot and killed a final-year student of Delta State Polytechnic, Ogwashi-Uku.

The incident happened around 9:00 a.m. on Tuesday, April 27, 2025.

According to dailypost, the student was preparing for an examination when he was killed.

He was in his apartment, reading for a 1:00 p.m. paper, when the gunshot rang out.

The victim, a student of Laboratory Science Technology (ND), reportedly died instantly.

The vigilante, who lives opposite the victim’s room, reportedly fired the shot from his own apartment.

Witnesses said the shooter and the deceased lived in the same compound.

The vigilante claimed he accidentally discharged the firearm while picking something from the ground.

He said the gun went off and struck the student directly.

Police operatives in Oghara arrested the suspect shortly after the incident.

Officers have deposited the victim’s body in a morgue.

Residents in the area expressed shock and demanded justice for the deceased.

The sudden death of the student has thrown the school community into mourning.

Classmates described him as calm, focused, and dedicated to his studies.

Angry students called for tighter control of firearms among community security groups.

They questioned why a loaded gun was handled so carelessly in a residential area.

When contacted, Delta State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, confirmed the incident.

He disclosed the information via a WhatsApp message to a news correspondent in Warri.

Edafe assured the public that the suspect would face full investigation.

He added that the command would not tolerate reckless use of firearms.

The school authorities have yet to issue an official statement.

Meanwhile, security has been tightened around the polytechnic community.

Police urged the public to remain calm and allow investigations to proceed.

The case has reignited calls for better training and oversight of vigilante groups across Delta State.
