VP Shettima Arrives in New York to Represent Nigeria at UNGA Session

Nigeria’s Vice President Kashim Shettima has landed in New York to attend the 80th Session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA), acting as envoy for President Bola Tinubu
Shettima will deliver Nigeria’s national statement during the high-level general debate, held from September 22 to September 28. He is also expected to announce new commitments on climate change under the Paris Agreement and participate in several bilateral meetings with global leaders.
Upon arrival at John F. Kennedy International Airport, Shettima was welcomed by senior Nigerian officials including the Minister of Foreign Affairs Yusuf Tuggar, the Minister of Defence Badaru Abubakar, and Minister of Innovation, Science and Technology Uche Nnaji.
Foreign Affairs Minister Tuggar stated that Nigeria will push for a United Nations Global Convention on Taxation and advocate for Africa’s permanent representation on the UN Security Council, in line with the Ezulwini Consensus and the Sirte Declaration.
