We’ve opened negotiations for Nnamdi Kanu’s release — Gov Otti

The governor of Abia State, Dr. Alex Otti has revealed that South-East governors are currently engaging the Federal Government over the possible release of Nnamdi Kanu, the embattled leader of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB).

He said this while speaking during his monthly media briefing in Umuahia.

Otti confirmed that quiet efforts were underway to secure Kanu’s freedom, adding that the South-East governors were actively involved in the discussions.

Dr. Otti stated that the governors were in talks with the Federal Government, but refrained from divulging further details, citing the sensitive nature of the matter.

He stressed his administration’s commitment to enhancing security in Abia State, particularly as the year draws to a close.

He noted efforts to support security agencies, including the police, army, and DSS, with resources to facilitate their work.

Otti also mentioned plans to renovate and expand the state prison, noting that this initiative was not indicative of an expectation of increased criminal activity but rather a step toward improving facilities.

The governor commended security operatives for maintaining relative peace in the state but urged residents to remain vigilant during the ember months.

He stressed the importance of public cooperation in providing information to aid security efforts.

Otti expressed concern over incidents of school vandalism, revealing that some youths in the state had been implicated.

To address this issue, he announced plans to deploy four security guards to each school.

By engaging with the Federal Government on Kanu’s release and prioritizing security measures, Otti’s administration aims to address key challenges facing the state.
